Product Information

Comfortable, asymmetrical neck is dressed with the Plek system.

Crank up a 2008 Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar and experience the power and performance that more than 40 years of craftsmanship and innovation can produce.

Pioneered and developed with the assistance of legendary jazz-pop guitarist Les Paul—one of the world's greatest musical and technological pioneers—the Gibson Les Paul has become the standard by which all electric guitars are judged. With fat, rich tone and incredible sustain, the Les Paul lends itself to every style and generation of music. From the sweetest jazz to the heaviest rock and metal, the Les Paul can do it all—it is one of the most powerful and versatile instruments of all time.

The 2008 Les Paul Standard Plus continues to alter—and inspire—the sounds of today's ever-changing musical landscapes. It features a hand-carved figured maple top with matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding. The neck is crafted from a single piece of mahogany. Carefully glued into the neck cavity of the body, the neck functions as a single unit with the body. Its asymmetrical shape is the most comfortable neck offered on a Les Paul Standard.

The BurstBucker Pro humbuckers have Alnico V magnets with slightly mismatched windings to deliver an enhanced "Patent Applied For" tone with more bite and brilliance.

All Les Paul Standard necks receive precision fret dressing and setup with the Plek system. As the guitar lies in a cradle, a computer-controlled robot arm moves along the neck measuring each fret's height, the fingerboard radius, even the bow in the neck. Using that data, the Plek machine adjusts the truss rod, cuts the nut slots for optimal spacing and height for each string, files each fret to a hundredth of a millimeter accuracy, and then polishes the frets. In a fraction of the time it takes a skilled technician, the Plek machine eliminates buzzing strings and dead spots, producing a neck with flawless intonation and superb action.

NOTE: To give you a choice of how your Les Standard should look, the pickguard is not attached but included in the case. To install the pickguard, holes will need to be drilled into the body.

Fantastic guitar!

When I first played it, it felt way more comfortable than the other Les Pauls I had played. I think the asymmetrical neck really increases its playability. It has a great tone; I love the way the BurstBucker Pro pickups sound and the feedback you can get. I'm used to using Strats, but this Les Paul got me hooked!

A-MA-ZING!!!

The first thing I gotta say about this guitar is that it is worth every penny!!! There's no need to buy any other thing for this guitar except a maintenance kit!!! Everything that comes with it is grade A+++ The burstbucker pro pickups that come factory installed are the perfect match for this guitar. They have incredible sustain and aggressive leads but also have jaw-dropping warm crunchy full tone. It has a super fast rounded neck that's great for soloing or playing rhythm on. Mine weighs in at about 8 pounds so its easy on the player and incredible in quality. I got mine in a desert burst finish and it is beautifully flawless!!! 5 out of 5 stars without a doubt! Highly recommend this guitar for someone who's looking for that one special guitar. Gibson you've done it again!!!

welcome the new 08

awesome! I wont bore you with all the details about the guitar. you can read that on the left hand column of this page. I will tell you that if you are serious about getting a solid les paul sound with the sustain of el diablo then this axe is for you. save your cash and invest in a playing work of art. P.S. people will tell you that gibsons are overpriced, and we all agree but we all know you get what you pay for and this guitar is the real deal. ROCK ON!

You will never get rid of this one

I have been playing guitar for 40 years. In 40 years I owned several Les Paul's. For one reason or another, they did not do "it" for me, so they got sold or traded off in my quest for my signature sound. I purchased a Les Paul ROBOT last year. The feel and ease of playing that axe got me hooked on the new Gibson quality. Problem with the ROBOT is the transducer bridge looks so delicate, I would not take it any where other than the studio. My new Standard has everything the ROBOT has except the "Auto Tune". It is prettier, sounds as good if not better and will stand up to a 4 hour gig with out breaking down or breaking your shoulder. The locking 1/4" input jack is a blessing. It stays in tune all night. The chambered body (to me) sounds better, and the weight loss makes a huge difference to the working musician. I love this axe. It will be my primary work guitar. I would not thing of trading it off to get something better. What could be better?

Very Nice Guitar

I purchased the Ice Tea version. The finish on the maple top is very nice. The tone is very good and well balanced. The asymmetrical neck on the new Standard does takes some getting used to. I have a Les Paul Studio with the 50s neck and I've become very used to the soft curve of the rounded neck. I did have a hard time chosing between a Les Paul Traditional and the Standard. I think the looks of the Les Paul Standard won me over.
