The Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Electric Guitar earns its name thanks to the traditional features you expect in a Les Paul guitar: mahogany body, set neck with rounded '50s profile, maple top, and a pair of Gibson's '57 Classic humbucker pickups. One significant, yet not-so-traditional improvement: the neck is analyzed by Gibson's Plek machine. Using computer precision Gibson Plek files the frets and cuts slots in the nut to an accuracy of a hundredth of a millimeter for optimal action and intonation without string buzzing.

The best guitar I own

I have no clue what those other guys are talking about. The action is absolutely perfect. The sound has a great crunch to crystal clean, especially when plugged into a Marshall. The neck is the most comfortable out all other guitars I have ever played, and is truly Traditional to early Les Pauls. The body weighs a little bit, but for me, that makes it more comfortable to hold, sitting or standing. The knobs really change the sound when you want them to.I looked at a lot of other guitars before buying this one, and am truly satisfied, past any other guitar.

llike a granola bar, extra crunchy

The Les Paul Traditional is an exceptional guitar. Besides feeling great and looking great, this guitar sounds very different from most Les Pauls you will encounter. It really captures the sound of great rockers like Jimmy Page by adding a bit more crunch than normal to the pickups. You can get it to sound beautifully clean without sacrificing the sustain and substance that is what Les Paul sound is all about. Aside from what I have heard about the PLEK system, my Traditional was most definitely ready to be played right out of the box. The neck is so easy to play, and the larger size frets make the screaming highs even higher and cleaner. The only downside I think is that the guitar is extremely heavy, even more so than standard Les Pauls due to the lack of a chambered body, but it is made up for in the tone quality. The guitar is beautiful, and I am happy that I own one.

Delivers!

This instrument has the exact feel of the Les Pauls I have owned in the past; the heavy, thick necked guitar was what I was looking for. There has been some comments about the "Plek" setup, and I think it is appropriate to toss my comments into the discussion. I was really not impressed with the fret finish on this guitar initially, and I really don't get the whole premise of the Plek arrangement. It may be aligned and perfectly level to start with, but what about after I wring it out for a while? Like any guitar, a trip to the tech is in order for a good initial setup. Having said that, this guitar has the dark, powerful sound of the Pauls of old, and its voice pushes through harmonically rich sound just the way I remember it should. Amazingly touch responsive, this guitar will get your point across every time. I don't see how you can miss.

A Splendid Guitar

I just purchased this guitar a few days ago and it is wonderful. The sound is incredible with the '57 pickups. The tone is just so clear. I love the neck to because it's thick and round (a nice change from my strat). Overall this is a guitar that you have to appreciate for what it is. It's a solid, well-made guitar that obviously had a lot of hard work put into it. I've been playing through a vox tonelab hooked to a marshall valvestate and the sound is flawless. I reccomend this guitar to anybody that is stepping up from amature to taking playing to a more serious level.

Plek set-up is a disappointment

I just tried a Les Paul 'Traditional' and the 2008, Standard Les Paul. I was very interested in trying out and feeling the PLEK engineered neck. Both guitars were a great disappointment as to the PLEK'd fret/neck. The nut on both guitars was higher than any Gibson I had picked up since the 80's (when Gibson churned out the worst guitars in its history). The action was high on both. Even at it's high action all around, there was freting out and dead spots all over the guitar's neck. The frets/action on both felt like the frets had been stuck on and the guitars left the factory as-is without a single test. They felt very sterile and unfinished. How could the nuts have been so high if the computer was so precise? The frets appeared untouched or barely touched. The player side of the necks felt very nice and the asymetrical 2008 Standard felt similar to some of the 50's and early 60's Gibson Les Pauls...almost oval in shape and feel. But for all the promise and my excitement in this new PLEK system for precision fretwork, the necks felt like they left the factory before they were worked in any way..unfinished, incomplete feel. Definitely not ready to play for any player. What a disappointment!
