American-made quality at an entry-level price.

Resurrecting one of the most popular electric guitars in Gibson's history, the Melody Maker is an accurate, affordable re-creation of the original Melody Makers of the late 1950s.

Originally introduced as a student model, much like the Les Paul Junior, the Melody Maker became a player's favorite for its light weight, comfortable neck, and great tone.

Today's Melody Maker Les Paul guitar is no exception. With a period-correct pickguard housing a special design singlecoil pickup, a vintage-style wraparound tailpiece, rounded neck profile, and slim, light body, the Melody Maker is an unbelievable value for players of all ages, styles, and skill levels.

NEW REVIEW - Melody Maker at last!

At last! after missing the last run on the MM reissues a few years back, I finally got one. You see, a friend had one (63' double cut 3/4)back in the 70's. I bugged him all the time to lend me it. I was in love with that guitar. So when I got wind of Gibsons' upcoming run on these little pups again... I was determined to get one. I must include the we Canadians were NOT privy to purchasing new Melody Makers either from our Canadian dealers or the dealers in the USA. Don't get this message wrong. Every time I've been to the US, I have had good experiences until I tried to get the one guitar that I knew I would love to own after almost 30 years. Oh yeah, I got one! Thanks for nothing Gibson. I think Gibson has become VERY arrogant about their name, and I would like to remind them that there are many companies making fine guitars out there. My melody maker is exactly what I wanted in a guitar almost but was surprised that they missed the mark by slapping a stock tailpeice from the LP's on it instead of the LP junior wraparound with the presets on it for a bit better intonage. The tuners on the other hand seem much better than on the vintage guitars. Gibson again, missed it on the paint. A bit of sheen would have been nice but they did give it a once over with black. Maybe Gibson should think about a plain mahogany with just a sealer on it? It's Light weight, well playing, and it does'nt need a neck pick-up if you strum/pick further up your neck to get a smoother tone like on acoustic. You can adjust your amps and peds to tweek your sound further from there but this little guitar did restore my faith (somewhat) in a guitar Company that I beleive failed their Canadian Guitar market. That was a SLAP IN THE FACE GIBSON CORP! Thank You Guitar Center for selling me a used one(for what its worth). CJ!

Keep it simple!!!

I am well pleased with my MM. I had an original in 1964 and this instrument is a very close reissue, the exception being that the finish on the original was glossy and the polepieces were covered. My MM plays like a dream. With judicious use of the controls and the settings on my amps(Fender Blues Jr. and Fender Deluxe Reverb), I am able to get sounds ranging from vintage blues to classic rock to metal. I am consistently amused with comments about this guitar, especially in the features department. Where did logic 101 go? When a person orders an instrument as simple as this what kind of features do they expect it to have? The fit and finish of my instrument was fine. I checked everything over with jeweler's glasses and found no flaws. I have never witnessed a new instrument of this price range that was so well-made. For that matter, with expensive guitars of which I have many either. I suspect that the complainers or low raters are not good musicians or dedicated to practice. Gimmicks, bells and whistles do not make good music! Only the dedicated players do. This guitar or any other guitar will not make one play better. Only patience and practice will do that. Gibson deserves credit for this reissue! The price is obscene. When I first saw it, I thought it was a mistake! In closing, I was impressed that this guitar is exactly as advertised; nothing less, nothing more. It does do one thing-It delivers! Gearheads, like golfers who have to buy all of the new clubs will not be satisfied. The only thing to do with this guitar is set it up to you liking and play it. Learning to get the desired sounds out of it is pleasureable like learning to love a fine woman. If you are patient and practice, this instrument will be a steadfast performer to the last.

Amazing guitar

Yes, I was skeptical at first. When I took it out of the box and played it at the store I was blown away. The tone and quality of the contruction and setup are top notch. It's a $350 Gibson for crying out loud. I tried to find something to complain about but can't. I love this guitar...period. I am probably going to buy a 2 pickup version next. You can't go wrong with this amazing guitar.

A real Gibson at a reasonable price!!!

As another reviewer wrote, "this is a USA made Gibson at a reasonable price and you are getting EXACTLY what is being advertised.". Although this guitar is a low end, supposedly beginner level model, you can't get a better guitar for $349. Workmanship and finish on my sunburst model were impeccable. The neck plays very well. Even though there is only one pickup (as advertised), by adjusting your amplifier and the tone/volume controls on the guitar, you can get a variety of sounds. The guitar performs particularly well for rock/blues distortion type sounds. The single pickup really wails. My only complaint is that shortly after receiving my guitar, I noticed that there is also a dual (2) pickup version which sells for $50 more or $399. If I had known this I would have purchased the dual pickup version. I could not however, find a dual pickup version in sunburst, only black or white. Overall, I am very pleased with the guitar I purchased, but may purchase the 2 pickup model as well. I strongly recommend this guitar but again emphasize that are indeed getting what is advertised.

I should have never sold the 1963

I owned a 1963 for a few years back in the 80's and loved it. I sold it for God knows why. After owning 20+ guitars over the years I would have to say this little heartbreaker is the real deal. It plays like melting butter in your hands. You can feel the guitar pull you into new places you have never been. For $350.00 and the words Gibson on the headstock what are you waiting for?
