The classic details of Kris Kristofferson's original Southern Jumbo blended with modern features.

The Kristofferson SJ Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar is an accurately detailed re-creation of Kris Kristofferson's beloved Southern Jumbo acoustic, and a tribute to his legendary songwriting skills and genuine love of Gibson acoustics. Gibson's luthiers have spared no effort in creating this instrument inspired by the acoustic with which Kristofferson wrote such classics as "Me and Bobby McGee" and "Help Me Make It Through the Night."

Limited to a run of just 300 guitars, The Kristofferson features vintage appointments, blending the classic details of his original Southern Jumbo with several modern features, including the Fishman Matrix—an undersaddle pickup system with endpin mounted preamp and soundhole mounted controls. An aged vintage sunburst finish gives the guitar a beautiful, yet understated look that faithfully captures the distinct feel of the original.

Kris' long-time support for the United Farm Workers is also fully acknowledged through the genuine mother-of-pearl UFW logo on the 12th fret. A donation will be made to the United Farm Workers for every guitar sold. Kris Krostofferson's autograph is notably featured on each Songwriter Series label, and each guitar comes with an exclusive hardshell case designed specifically for this special issue. Play The Kristofferson and experience a fitting tribute to a modern legend, and the rich history of Gibson Acoustics.

As reviewed by Bret E. Duncan on 3/3/2009

Pros: Beautiful guitar. Good setup from the factory. Excellent tone; plenty of bottom end from the bass strings, clean, pronounced mids, sparkling trebles. Lots of that woodsy Gibson jangle while strumming. Surprising amount of volume, especially from a new dreadnought. Perfect two-tone sunburst. Cons: Small amount of finish imperfection near the fretboard end of the soundhole. Incorrect advertised pickup installed, instead, came with a LR Baggs Element Active System sans the volume control wheel. Conclusion: Wonderful, exhilarating instrument!!
