Product Information

A lean, mean, rockin' machine – just like Joan herself!

Carefully developed in close cooperation with Jett herself, Gibson's Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker features a lightweight, slab mahogany body with a Worn White finish.

The slim-tapered neck profile is handcrafted to the same specs as Jett's original guitar, with an ebony fingerboard and Gibson's classic, silk-screened gold logo on the headstock.

The mini-Grover tuners, and authentic witch hat control knobs are exactly as they are on Jett's guitar.

A kill switch replaces the normal Gibson toggle switch, and the body is outfitted with a period-correct black vinyl pickguard.

The classic, snarling growl of Jett's original Melody Maker is accurately captured by a single Gibson Burstbucker 3 zebra humbucker, slightly overwound with asymmetrical coils, unpolished Alnico II magnets, and all the punch and power of an original Gibson "Patent Applied For" pickup.

Add some typical Melody Maker appointments: 24-3/4-inch scale length, and standard Gibson Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece--and the result is a painstaking and heartfelt tribute to one of the most fearless, groundbreaking artists in rock and roll.

Each Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker comes with a Gibson USA hard case.

"I got my Melody Maker in 1977," the legendary Joan Jett says about the guitar she has made one of the most iconic instruments in rock and roll. "It was light and it sounded great. It was the guitar I had in The Runaways and then played on all my hits, like 'I Love Rock N' Roll' and 'Bad Reputation' and 'Do You Wanna Touch Me.' It's my baby."

The Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar was introduced in 1959 and priced for the beginning player but has been used by many well-known rockers since then, including Joan Jett.

Joan Jett Guitar Rocks

Fellow Long Islander Joan Jett's New Gibson Melody Maker Signiture Guitar is great - Made for playing rock music with hot pickup - light weight and a great easy to play neck - looks just like her guitar used for many years with a worn white finish - the price for a signiture eddition guitar is very fair (even came with a great case and a copy of her new CD in case) - A great all around deal - Very Very Happy

Plays like butter

I was hesitant at first buying this guitar, but I'm a big Joan Jett fans since the 70's, so I had to have it. I loved the simplicity of it but wasn't sure if it would hold up in the sound department, since I bought it without trying it out first. Well my concerns were unfounded. This guitar sounds awesome and feels great in my hands. Easily handles heavy rock to more bluesly songs, even some surf music. The tone is mint. It's a great all around guitar made in the USA. Would highly recommend it.

It is what you think it is

This is the guitar I would have designed myself. It plays and sounds exactly like it looks - a little raw, but not too much. Acoustically (unplugged) it is very responsive and really sings. Clean, you get a little "edge" thanks to the BB3, but that's how I like it, and it is very controllable through picking technique. Distortion / overdrive are great, but that's a no brainer, right? The BB3 is great, neck is very comfortable and the ebony fingerboard is a dream to play. The tuning pegs are a nice step up from the standards. Set up well at the factory, even arrived on my doorstep in tune. The faded finish was a pleasant surprise, looks nice on this guitar. My only complaint is the frets could be a little more polished. In short, this guitar "is what it is." Literally, if you like the Joan Jett sound you will like this guitar. If not, look elsewhere. I like the simplicity, the look, and the playability. If you add up the enhancements over a standard MM, you see that it's a pretty good deal.
