Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar (620875)
Availability:

A modern edition of one of Gibson's most revered models.

A true legend of acoustic instruments, the Gibson Hummingbird Pro acoustic-electric guitar was first introduced in 1960 as Gibson's earliest square-shoulder dreadnought guitar. Superb for all styles of playing, with a capacity for rich, first-position folk chords and intricate solo playing, the Gibson Hummingbird quickly became an iconic acoustic line, and a favorite among legends like Gram Parsons and Keith Richards. The Hummingbird has been one of Gibson Acoustic's most enduring guitar line. Includes case.

Body tonewoods (back, sides and top)
The body design of the Gibson Hummingbird Pro acoustic electric guitar is known as a square shoulder dreadnought. The top is made from Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are constructed from mahogany, giving the Hummingbird True Vintage a perfectly balanced midrange tone, with unbiased rich lows and clear treble registers. Selecting the right wood, and the formula to dry it out, are two of the most central procedures to Gibson's guitar-building process.

Rosewood fingerboard with traditional binding and split parallelogram inlays
The resilience of rosewood makes the fingerboard extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite.
The Gibson Hummingbird Pro guitar's split parallelogram inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl, and are inserted into the fingerboard using a process that eliminates gaps and doesn't require the use of fillers. The fingerboard also sports traditional binding over the fret ends, which was a staple feature of many classic Gibson acoustic guitars for many years.

Bracing
Every acoustic electric guitar made by Gibson features hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing inside the body, a feature normally found only in limited run, handmade guitars. By scalloping each brace by hand, the natural sound of the acoustic guitar is focused more toward the center of the body, enhancing the guitar's sound projection. Gibson Acoustic's Hummingbird Pro guitar sports a single "X" bracing pattern similar to the design inside vintage Gibson J-30s. This traditional pattern delivers a balanced midrange tone, with unbiased lows and rich, clear highs, producing a warm tone that has been a favorite among artists and players alike since the original Gibson Hummingbird guitars introduced in 1960.

L.R. Baggs Element ES acoustic pickup system
Gibson Acoustic's Hummingbird Pro comes equipped with the Element ES Active acoustic pickup system from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile undersaddle element—or transducer—that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an onboard preamp with an unobtrusive and volume control mounted just inside the soundhole, the Element ES delivers performance not previously attainable from an undersaddle pickup. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar, and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. The Element ES works with a standard 9V battery, which is housed inside the guitar in L.R. Bagg's new "Battery Bagg."

Nickel Grover Rotomatic tuners
Grover's original Rotomatic tuners are an engineering marvel, with abundant style and performance exactly suited for the Gibson Hummingbird guitar. With a gear ratio of 14:1, the Rotomatics deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. All moving parts are cut for exact meshing, eliminating the possibility of slippage. A countersunk tension screw lets players regulate the tuning tension to any degree. A special lubricant inside the gear box provides smooth and accurate tuning stability.

Crown peghead logo
Gibson put the first crown peghead logo on an ES-300 back in 1940, and it has graced the headstocks of many legendary Gibson guitars ever since, including today's Hummingbird Pro acoustic electric guitar.

Rosette
A rosette is the beautiful, hand-crafted circle around the soundhole, and can be one of the most ornamental elements of any acoustic guitar. It is also one of the most subtle and complicated woodworking decorations on any acoustic guitar. The rosette on the Gibson Hummingbird Pro guitar is a double-ring rosette, with the main ring consisting of seven-ply binding, and the second ring three-ply binding, adding a stylish, understated elegance to the Gibson Hummingbird True Pro acoustic-electric guitar.

  • Punch, depth & clarity! AMAZING guitar.

As reviewed by Chris Huff on 12/6/2010

I had been in the market for a Collings or Martin Vintage series when I walked into my local guitar center to get strings one afternoon in Atlanta, Ga. I made my way back to to "acoustic room" to see if there was anything new to play. The Gibson Hummingbird Pro immediately caught my attention. It's tobacco sunburst finish is stunning. I had previously played a J45 and was not satisfied with the tone. The draw of a Collings or Martin Vintage is the punch, warmth and clarity. Literally as soon as I played the Hummingbird Pro I knew I had found what I was looking for. Punch, warmth, great clarity and blend of mids, lows & highs with each note played. After a few weeks weighing the options I came back into Guitar Center and walked out with a dream. A few days later I had an event to play for. I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and sensitivity of the LR Baggs Element pickup. Amazing instrument & incredible craftsmanship!

  • Great Guitar

As reviewed by Tommy Hartline on 11/26/2010

I went to Guitar Center in Fort Worth Texas to actually buy a Taylor or martain acoustic/electric guitar, I currently have a Taylor 110 and a refurbished Gibson 2002 L4-A. I walked out with the Gibson Hummingbird pro. I Played several taylors and martains and the hummingbird pro sounded better to me. Ive never bought a guitar due to its brand name, I buy quality and sound in a guitar and this one was the best in both catagories to me. I recommened it highly!

  • Gibson Hummingbird Pro

As reviewed by DB on 12/3/2010

This is a beautifully constructed instrument. The playability of this guitar is fantastic. It has a nice deep sound that Gibson is famous for. Great action on the neck. The electronics in this guitar are good as long as you have a good amp to play through. Money well spent on this guitar.
