American-made in Memphis, Tennessee, the ES Les Paul semi-hollow electric guitar boasts elegant aesthetics and a rich, resonant tone. Available in Black Top or Light Caramel Burst finish, the back and rim are a vintage-style dark walnut stain. Lightweight materials make this a guitar you’ll be able to play for hours.
Although the majority of ES models use maple for the centerblocks, the Les Paul had to be a special consideration. Traditional Les Paul bodies are either solid mahogany or mahogany with a maple cap. Mahogany and maple have very different tonal qualities, so to stay true to the tone of the Les Paul, mahogany was chosen.
Guitarists appreciate a guitar you can wear on your shoulder for a show. Weight reduction was a major consideration as the shape of the block was developed. Again, mahogany fit the bill.
The need for strength dictated the unusual shape of this centerblock. The square in the lower bout provides sufficient material for the use of vintage length anchors and tail piece studs. The unusual curved area on the upper bass side is designed to securely hold the strap button, so the guitar has just the right balance. Finally, the long, thin piece down the center holds everything together, handles all the torque from the tailpiece and transmits vibrations from the headstock to the base.
