Comments about Gibson Custom Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul Plaintop Reissue Gloss Electric Guitar:
I grew up around many" Real Deal" vintage Gibson Guitars, so I know what they are. I have owned 8 Les Paul's in my life. I still have 4 Historic reissues and I love them all and they are every bit as pleasing as the vintage Gibson's that were in my home growing up. I actually had my hands on a 55,57, 58 and 1960 a couple of days ago and I believe my reissues are just as good. I believe what matters is how a guitar is built not what year they are made. Though aging can have a good effect on the wood.
My question has always been why does there have to be a "Custom Historic" or Reissue line, why aren't they all built that way? I guess it is because people have different taste and needs. I like the "Old School" Spec's. Over the years I have heard so much about PRS and I wanted to try one. I don't like being a "branded" guy and I don't like being a sucker for marketing so I had no problem trying something different. The PRS was Beautiful to look at and the craftsmanship was perfect. I just could not get used to it. The placement of the knob's weren't good for me, most players would love where the knobs are but the way I play my fingers kept bumping the knobs. Thanks to Guitar Center's return policy I was able to return it with in 45 days. When I went into GC they had this 2016 1958 reissue Les Paul they recommended. I was weary because of all the negative talk about Gibson on all these forum's. These forums would have you believing that the latter Gibson's are no good, and I know Gibson has had some les than stellar periods of production. I must say that this guitar is as good as any guitar I have ever played. It plays like butter from the first to the last fret. The action is so low I can't believe there is no buzz, and the intonation is perfect. The fit finish is perfect. The Custom Buckers are great for a maple top guitar. On every maple top L P that I have ever owned I had to roll the tone knob down between 4 to 6 to play pinch Harmonics, not with The CustomBuckers.
