The SG originally was intended as a Les Paul redesign and addressed what many considered the 2 main issues players had with the Les Paul: weight and upper fretboard access. Les Paul himself didn't like it so the Les Paul stuck to its original style and the new Les Paul design was renamed the SG Standard. Even though Les Paul didn't approve of it, countless rockers loved it and made it one of all-time hard rockin' favorites. This is the early '60s deluxe model.

Comments about Gibson Custom SG Custom Reissue VOS Electric Guitar:
I've been playing off and on for 40 years. This is my second SG. My first was lost in a house fire. The first was the 490/498 equiped model with with the cherry finish. By the way the 490/498 pickups are great for every style because of their inherent clean tone, to all of you newbies, you don't want a pickup that colors your tone, this limits the versatility of the guitar. Now the reissue, classic "TV" white with gold hardware. A lot of people dis- the gold plating, but if you wipe it after you are finished playing, it will hold up. Respect your instrument. I bought this quite awhile back before the reissue thing became big so the price was not as astronomical, high to be sure but still in reason. The finish was perfect as was all of the workmanship, the way Gibson used to make guitars. The light weight and slim body makes it comfortable to play sitting or standing. The three '57's give you amazing tone capability from very bright through a full jazzy tone to dark throaty blues.Palm muting is really punchy with classic driving tone. Great sustain easy to tune and stays in tune even with a lot of bending. I had this guitar setup to my taste by a skilled luthier years ago and it still plays perfect without any need for a "tune up" of the action.Through years of temperature and humidity changes the action has stayed solid.I have stubby fingers but have no trouble with neck. You can build intricate ringing chords without the sound becoming muddy, each note stays distinct.Frets were dressed flawless along with the binding. This seems to be an issue now with Gibson, hopefully some changes will be made to their production staff and this will clear up. Some advice on buying a guitar, play different chord inversions and listen to see if the guitar reproduces the emotional nature of it, don't just "shred". This guitar is an investment. Today guitars seem to be throw aways, played for awhile and then traded for "something" different. This is because most up and coming guitarist are focusing only on one style and buy a guitar for only that style. When their skills grow, the old guitar can't grow with them. This guitar will always be more guitar than needed.I admit 4K is a ridiculous price for a guitar, but the 2K model should give you the same capabilties. You will never trade this guitar ... your kids, kids will never trade this guitar.
