Comments about Gibson Custom Collectors Choice #29 - Tamio Okuda VOS Finish 1959 Les Paul Electric Guitar:
Bought in NYC with Rob Tennant.
I never loved the 59 necks, thick and round like baseball bats. The thing is, this one is addictive, first couple of days its very chunky and you ask yourself why you insist, but then you start playing and quickly you get used to it.
Great wood and perhaps because of the chunky neck, it resonates like crazy and has fantastic tone.
It will sound silly for many, but I ended up returning it to Guitar Center because at this level of price the look is to me as important as the sound. and I relly did not like the burst here. Many people will love though. This VOS version is great because it has the look and feel of seriously vintage guitars without the beat up / trashed look of the heavily aged or reliced guitars.
If the budget does not scare you, and you want to try a 59, this one is highly recommended.
