The 1959 Les Paul is considered by many serious guitar players, aficionados, and collectors to be ultimate holy grail of the electric guitar. Melvyn Franks is a noted collector who currently owns a superb original 1959 Les Paul that once belonged to both Gary Moore and Peter Green. The Collectors Choice #1 Melvyn Franks 1959 Les Paul Electric Guitar is an incredibly detailed rendering of this historic guitar. Features that are unique to this fabulous guitar included a reversed neck pickup (with adjustable pole pieces facing the bridge), an "out of phase" middle position tone, missing silver inserts on the top two "top hat" control knobs, Schaller tuners, and a luscious butterscotch finish.
Other period-correct features of the Melvyn Franks 1959 Les Paul include a gorgeous 2-piece "bookmatched" flamed maple top, solid mahogany back, and a one piece mahogany neck with a long mortise & tenon neck joint, a rounded '59 neck profile, and a 17-degree back-angled headstock. A 22-fret rosewood fingerboard has mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays that match the size and color of the originals.
Two of Gibson's legendary BurstBucker pickups deliver all the subtle variations of true, classic "Patent Applied For" humbucker tone with "unmatched" bobbin windings and Alnico II magnets. A BurstBucker 3 is in the neck position, and a BurstBucker 2 is fitted in the bridge position. A Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece provides tuning stability and contribute to the tonality of this very special guitar.

Comments about Gibson Custom Collectors Choice #1 Melvyn Franks 1959 Les Paul Electric Guitar:
I have just had my Gibson Melvyn Franks Les Paul for only one day, but I am absolutely overwhelmed by it. The shop owner that sold me the guitar told me that I would like it more each day that I played it. Hard to believe, but likely. I wont't go through the rich history of this guitar... it is a legend in the music world. And Gibson recreated it exactly to even include its minor faults such as unmatching volume and tone controls, and a deserted hole drilled into the body for a pick guard. Appearance: Gibson refers to it as an "unburst" as it has both vertical and horizontal figuring covering its butterscotch body. With its VOS treatment, it is the epitome of vintage. But there is a lot more than the looks of the Melvyn Franks Les Paul. It is easily the greatest playing and sounding guitar I have ever played and I have 40 years of rock and blues behind me. The two burstbuckers with the neck in reversed position, produce a full wide range of great, quality tones. In in the middle position with both pickups on, you have that classic, out-of-phase sound made famous in early Peter Green blues. The playability is such that tiny nuances within notes and licks are at your fingertips. The Custom Shop of Gibson should be proud of this superb Les Paul hand-crafted to honor a legend of blues and rock history. It is "Collector's Choice #1"......there are no more around for purchase and likely will not be in the future.
