Overview

In celebration of Rush's 40th Anniversary, Gibson Custom presents the Limited Edition Alex Lifeson R40 Les Paul Axcess, offered in a run of 50 guitars with a 7A Quilt Maple top, hand-signed and played by Alex Lifeson in a lush Ruby Red R40 finish. It also features a Limited Edition "Starman" R40 die-caste medallion covering the rhythm/treble switch access cavity.

Created through extensive work with Alex Lifeson himself, the Gibson Custom Signed Alex Lifeson 40th Anniversary Les Paul Axcess Quilt similarly redefines the boundaries of the classic Les Paul: packed in a single remarkable instrument, this guitar carries all of the traditional tones that have made the Les Paul legendary, along with unprecedented levels of sonic and performance versatility.

In addition to its traditional Les Paul tonewoods, the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess carries two high-output humbucking pickups with series/parallel wiring options via its push-pull volume controls, and a Floyd Rose licensed unit that not only provides the world's most efficient vibrato system, but is also loaded with Graph Tech Ghost piezo bridge saddles.

Access traditional Gibson magnetic humbucker tones, mix it up with fat and funky series/parallel options, tap the Ghost's realistic acoustic tones, or blend acoustic and magnetic voices - the sky's the limit from this sonic chameleon whose sound-shifting depths are virtually limitless. What' more, you can route it all through a traditional mono jack (labeled "Regular") using a single guitar cable, or use two cables to split your sonic trickery off into separate output paths using the "Regular" and the "Life-O-Sound" output jacks together.

All this, and the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess still presents that timeless Les Paul look that has remained a classic for more than 50 years. Hardshell case included.

Comments about Gibson Custom Alex Lifeson 40th Anniversary R40 Signed Les Paul Axcess Quilt:

I already own and play a Gibson Alex Lifeson Les Paul that is Crimson Red. For me getting the signed Guitar with such a gorgeous "7A" Ruby Red top was a one-of-a-kind opportunity at not that high of a price (compared to a signed Jimmy Page starting at more than twice an Alex new). Both of these Lifesons are so versatile. I have several Gibson Les Pauls but there is nothing like an Alex. What I mean by that is that it has all the features of my other Les Pauls built into one guitar: Series/parallel, Floyd Rose, thin 60s style D-neck, and piezo, not weight relieved body (but big cavities for electronics). Both stay in tune, have not caused me any problems, and are versatile tone monsters when blending the electromagnetic and piezo pick-ups. The R40 has Alex's hand written number and signature, and was played by Alex Lifeson. That is special enough for me.

Not worth the price

Comments about Gibson Custom Alex Lifeson 40th Anniversary R40 Signed Les Paul Axcess Quilt:

For $10,700, you should get a video of Alex playing and signing it. If he really played it at all, it was probably only for 30 seconds. The guitar has nothing RUSH related about it, except for a small switch cover on the BACK. They couldn't do a starman inlay, engrave the pickups, add an R40 logo, or something special for $10,700? I really respect Alex, but this is a sad, blatant money grab. I thought he was better than that. The only thing that could possibly make the guitar worth that much is if he had actually used one of the guitars at each of the shows in their final tour, then signed and dated it with the show it was used at. Even then, $10,700 is ridiculous. You can buy a similar guitar and mod it to these specs for 1/3 of the cost, and get Alex to sign it later.
