I bought a black LP Custom with gold hardware when I was 16 years old after working all summer at a fast food joint to save up the money to buy it. Well, it's 16 years later and the guitar has been nothing short of a fantastic instrument. I played in a working band for years in Minnesota, sweating all over it in hot crowded bars, then dragging it out to the van in below-zero temps, only to do it all over again the next weekend. All the abuse it's taken--cold, heat, drops to the floor, beer thrown on it--and I've never had to do anything but change the strings. I used to have an expensive guitar with a locking tuning system and it didn't stay in tune anywhere near as well as this guitar, not to mention the hassle if you broke a string on stage. And it sounds SO good -- it's heavy, but so is the tone. You just won't find an off-the-rack guitar with a richer sound. The one I own was worth every burger I flipped to buy it. It's got some nics and dings, the finish is marred where my forearm rested while playing, and the gold is worn off the pickups and bridge from rubbing against my hand, but it still sounds awesome. If my house were on fire and I could only save one thing, it would be this guitar.

Went to GC to get new custom shop Gibson, which ended up not being in stock. So, I settled for this one in black. GC brought it out completely sealed with Gibson Custom Shop seals and we opened the box. Guitar was absolutely beautiful so I took it home. Plugged it in and had instant buzz, switched to new cable and still had buzz. Tuned Guitar put it in middle position and buzz was accompanied by break-up, dropped it to bridge dead silence unless you touched the bridge pickup which cause it to roar back to life. Since it is hard play while touching the pickup I returned it to GC. They were great taking it back with no hassels or issues, and assisted me in getting another quality guitar

THIS IS THE ONE!

By NorCal Gibson Fan

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

Worth every dime. An amazing electric guitar. From a powerful clean jangle, to rock, punk & jazz. I spent 5 hours in GC playing everything from Gibson & many other brands. The custom LP stands above all. The tone & sustain is amazing. I got the alpine white (it looks a lot better in person than in photos) it is beautiful. When you walk on stage with this piece of art people know they are in for something good. Like all great guitars, this one makes you want play all the time. This guitar is a great example of why Gibsons are legends. A must for serious pros.

Excellent

By Chris

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

Any guitar, or anything for that matter is expensive at over $3000, however, if you are considering a guitar in this range, whilst rightly so being aprehensive about spending that much, think no further!! I play everything from classical to blues, to general rock, and let me tell you, using those four knobs for volume and tone, you can certainly find the sound your looking for no matter what. This guitar is especially good if your into blues; just put it into rythem, during the verses, and when you want that awesome twang that you won't find on another guitar, put it into treble on clean. Its probably the most versatile gibson you could buy, perhaps an SG is just as versatile, but you can really get some kicks from this guitar!!!!

THE BEST VALUE FOR THE MONEY!!!

By Anonymous

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I just recently purchased one, and I cna't put it down. The action on the neck is so comfortable, and it's straight from the factory! The neck is fast and the humbuckers give a nice crunch through a Marshall half stack. So don't spend time thinking, and just go buy it, you won't be sorry.

The Cream of the Crop

By Skip

from South Texas

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

The Les Paul Custom is the cream of the crop! In my opinion, it's the best production model that Gibson makes (to get any better you'd have to get a high priced custom shop model) Mine is black with gold hardware...it's absolutely gorgeous! When I first got mine, I spent more time looking at it than playing it. This guitar really excells for lead guitar playing. The maple top, ebony fretboard, and 490R/ 498T pickups, yield a tone that cuts through the mix. If you're a serious player that demands the best, buy this guitar and forget the rest!

It Is A Dream

By Mark

from Stanton, CA

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

My Strat, and Ibanez are good but just didn't have that deep resonating sustain that I wanted. When my friend finally let me play his I had to get one. The cost was there but the sound and feel was worth every penny. One of the best investments I've ever made.

Don't have it, YET!!

By Nick

from Millille Mass.

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I went into guitar center about a year ago and there it was, an alpine white LP custom. As soon as I picked it up there were no flaws at all, amazing playability and sound. Just a week ago, walkin into GC, there it was. Now that I can play better, and starting a Metallica Cover Band, I thought "WHy not give it a try?" Basicly, my Ibanez RG is goin away. I don't own this guitar yet, but just by playing it I felt like this guitar would do so much! It's sounds can go from heavy Metallica to sweet Eric Johnson. My friend was lookin at Guitar Tabs and I would play all of them!! I didnt let that guitar go even when it was closing time!! A real, true, god over all guitars.

This guitar is more versatie than you think

By Mad Mag

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I have a black 1989 Les Paul Custom that was purchased in 1996 in mint condition. Over these 14 years, it has seen a lot of action in different musical genres. It has taken a beating but has never given me any reliability issues. It's quite worn but sounds amazing. I've used this guitar in different rock bands and currently I'm playing in a hip-hop group where I need a powerful clean jazzy sound for our songs. I'm also recording demos for a new rock band and this is my main axe. It never fails to deliver equally in different styles of music. From clean tones to crushing rock sounds, it always delivers. Even my bandmates who don't play guitar say it sounds better than anything else I bring to sessions. Learn to manipulate the controls while playing and you'll see the variety you can get from this one guitar. A little expensive, but treat it right, play it and it'll be a great friend forever. I know my mine has more than paid for itself.

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I'm 65 years old and been playing since I was 11. This is the guitar I waited for all my life. I've owned this LP Custom about 14 years and it never has yet let me down. Other guitars come and gone and other guitars I currently own just don't measure up to this beauty. Yes I've owned Fenders and, still do for the twang, but they still don't play and sound like the Custom LP. This IS the guitar to fall in love with. I can't decide if I should be buried with it or hand it down :-) Sure would be a shame if it were never played again - guess I'll hand it down.

    Vintage Mule

    By Ken Tambellini

    from Maine

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

One word for this Custom Axe; Intimidating! But that is part of the attraction. Like a wild horse or a stubborn mule that needs to be broken, you gotta tame them, just like this guitar. Every horse is different; every guitar is different the way their spirit wants to ride wild and take control, but you are intimidated by the intensity, power and raw energy coming from your hands; this is where the taming forms by making this guitar one with your soul. You know that instantly when you pick up a Custom LP! I recently just purchased a Heritage Cherry Sunburst, ordered straight from factory, and I creamed my pants when I opened up the case! As soon as I started playing I knew I found my soul mate through a guitar! Something you cannot explain, but you know is right and true. So stop second guessing yourself and make the purchase, you will not be dissapointed!!!

The monster I always come back to

    By Matt

    from San Bernardino Mountains, CA

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I've had my Black Les Paul Custom for 31 years now. I've played many guitars and this is the one I always come back to when I want a huge sound. I played in top 40 cover bands, a punk band in 80-82, a progressive band in the mid 80s, heavy rock in the late 80s, blues and country in the 90s, and a metal/gothic rock band now. It has been through crazy abuse on stage and off and is still great all these years later. This and my modified Strat are all I need to get the variety of sounds I'm going for. Awesome guitar...nuff said!!!

    It Took Awhile

    By Heath

    from Michigan

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I've had the black one for a few years, but it took me up until this point for me to get comfortable even touching the guitar, thinking at the price tag. I'm mainly a bass player, but I collect guitars and basses. I made a deal with my dad when we got this guitar that I would maintain good grades in high school... which I really didn't hold true to but that's done so I can play it all I want. There is no better guitar than this one. I have no complaints about anything, except seeing scratches on the black finish is just a frustrating sight and the weight of the guitar can get pretty intense... but you have to look past it and really realize that there is nothing superior to its quality, tone and versatility.

    Very Nice

    By PS

    from Tulsa

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

This is an excellent example of a classic les paul! Its sound is great (for best sound I recommend pairing with a marshall amp, but that's just me) and it is good for many styles of music. Along with this, the look of the guitar is awesome! Everything from the antique ebony color to the square pearl inlays on the fingerboard is beautiful. I have only played this guitar and I do not own it but I plan on buying it one day and adding it to my collection. A Great Job By Gibson!

    Pure class all the way

    By Matt

    from Vienna, VA

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

Just picked up a custom in Alpine White today. Love the fat, thick, pure tone I get out of it. My main guitar up until this point was my gibson SG, but it will be taking a backseat to this guitar. I really like the neck on the SG and was surprised to find that the custom's neck was nearly as fast and thin until you get up past the 17th fret or so, then the heel/body gets in the way, but thats what you get for having a paul! Can't say enough things about this guitar. People say you can get the les paul tone with a cheaper gibson or even epiphone, but to my ears, nothing sounds as good as a custom. Gibson really outdid themselves on this one.

    Best...Guitar...Ever.

    By Chucktallica

    from Murderapolis, MN

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I bought a black LP Custom right before Jan 2008 and I held off on writing a review. Well, if you are thinking of buying this guitar, then let me suggest that it would be wise to buy it. The action is tight, the tone is beefy, and the overall essense of this beauty is awe inspiring. I play everything from Death Metal to Jazz and I can tell you that this guitar can do it all. I swapped out the stock pickups for EMG's but other than that this guitar is absolutely perfect.

Best guitar I have ever played

    By Sam D

    from Boston MA

Comments about Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar:

I used to have a very nice Schecter Diamond Series. It was fine, but it kept breaking and I had to bring it in all the time for repairs. Eventually, I decided I needed an upgrade. I walked into the platinum room just to take a quick peek and saw a couple of guitars that I liked, a Fender, an Ibanez, two near-identical Music Men with different pickups, but then I saw the Les Paul. I decided "what the heck" and tried it out. I loved it the moment I started playing it. It's a kind of heavy guitar, but the sound more than makes up for it. The tone is round, and out-of-this-world full, unlike my Schecter. The guitar is a beauty to look at still, even after a year and a half without polish or anything. If I brought it up to store quality... Also, the guitar still plays like brand new, with perfectly toned pickups and a beautifully soft mahogany neck. I cannot recommend this guitar enough. Just get past the price and you will not be sorry.
