I bought a black LP Custom with gold hardware when I was 16 years old after working all summer at a fast food joint to save up the money to buy it. Well, it's 16 years later and the guitar has been nothing short of a fantastic instrument. I played in a working band for years in Minnesota, sweating all over it in hot crowded bars, then dragging it out to the van in below-zero temps, only to do it all over again the next weekend. All the abuse it's taken--cold, heat, drops to the floor, beer thrown on it--and I've never had to do anything but change the strings. I used to have an expensive guitar with a locking tuning system and it didn't stay in tune anywhere near as well as this guitar, not to mention the hassle if you broke a string on stage. And it sounds SO good -- it's heavy, but so is the tone. You just won't find an off-the-rack guitar with a richer sound. The one I own was worth every burger I flipped to buy it. It's got some nics and dings, the finish is marred where my forearm rested while playing, and the gold is worn off the pickups and bridge from rubbing against my hand, but it still sounds awesome. If my house were on fire and I could only save one thing, it would be this guitar.

Went to GC to get new custom shop Gibson, which ended up not being in stock. So, I settled for this one in black. GC brought it out completely sealed with Gibson Custom Shop seals and we opened the box. Guitar was absolutely beautiful so I took it home. Plugged it in and had instant buzz, switched to new cable and still had buzz. Tuned Guitar put it in middle position and buzz was accompanied by break-up, dropped it to bridge dead silence unless you touched the bridge pickup which cause it to roar back to life. Since it is hard play while touching the pickup I returned it to GC. They were great taking it back with no hassels or issues, and assisted me in getting another quality guitar

Greatest Electric Guitar Ever Made

By Randall Scott

from Augusta, Georgia

The Gibson Les Paul Custom in my opinion is the Best Electric Guitar ever Made. Sweetest Action and Mesmerizing Tone and Sustain. The other members of the Les Paul Family are nice but, the Custom is hard to beat. If you can afford it, it is worth the price. A guitar that is hard to put down, even though a little heavy by comparason; and, I don't think I would ever sell. Fantastic guitar.

Best guitar I have ever played

By Sam D

from Boston MA

I used to have a very nice Schecter Diamond Series. It was fine, but it kept breaking and I had to bring it in all the time for repairs. Eventually, I decided I needed an upgrade. I walked into the platinum room just to take a quick peek and saw a couple of guitars that I liked, a Fender, an Ibanez, two near-identical Music Men with different pickups, but then I saw the Les Paul. I decided "what the heck" and tried it out. I loved it the moment I started playing it. It's a kind of heavy guitar, but the sound more than makes up for it. The tone is round, and out-of-this-world full, unlike my Schecter. The guitar is a beauty to look at still, even after a year and a half without polish or anything. If I brought it up to store quality... Also, the guitar still plays like brand new, with perfectly toned pickups and a beautifully soft mahogany neck. I cannot recommend this guitar enough. Just get past the price and you will not be sorry.

THE BEST

By Dr, Shredmaster

from Philadelphia,PA

im in love with this guitar. everything about it is amazing. tone, sound, looks, i mean whats not to like its a gibson. there is no doubt in my mind that this the the best guitar ever. the playability is outstanding, the burstbuckers provide the best tone and the widest range of sound quality from clean to heavy metal. this is a dream guitar and if you are considering to buy this do not hesitate you will not regret. i thought i was a fender man until i played this.

It Took Awhile

By Heath

from Michigan

I've had the black one for a few years, but it took me up until this point for me to get comfortable even touching the guitar, thinking at the price tag. I'm mainly a bass player, but I collect guitars and basses. I made a deal with my dad when we got this guitar that I would maintain good grades in high school... which I really didn't hold true to but that's done so I can play it all I want. There is no better guitar than this one. I have no complaints about anything, except seeing scratches on the black finish is just a frustrating sight and the weight of the guitar can get pretty intense... but you have to look past it and really realize that there is nothing superior to its quality, tone and versatility.

This guitar is more versatie than you think

By Mad Mag

from Bay Area, CA

I have a black 1989 Les Paul Custom that was purchased in 1996 in mint condition. Over these 14 years, it has seen a lot of action in different musical genres. It has taken a beating but has never given me any reliability issues. It's quite worn but sounds amazing. I've used this guitar in different rock bands and currently I'm playing in a hip-hop group where I need a powerful clean jazzy sound for our songs. I'm also recording demos for a new rock band and this is my main axe. It never fails to deliver equally in different styles of music. From clean tones to crushing rock sounds, it always delivers. Even my bandmates who don't play guitar say it sounds better than anything else I bring to sessions. Learn to manipulate the controls while playing and you'll see the variety you can get from this one guitar. A little expensive, but treat it right, play it and it'll be a great friend forever. I know my mine has more than paid for itself.

Don't have it, YET!!

By Nick

from Millille Mass.

I went into guitar center about a year ago and there it was, an alpine white LP custom. As soon as I picked it up there were no flaws at all, amazing playability and sound. Just a week ago, walkin into GC, there it was. Now that I can play better, and starting a Metallica Cover Band, I thought "WHy not give it a try?" Basicly, my Ibanez RG is goin away. I don't own this guitar yet, but just by playing it I felt like this guitar would do so much! It's sounds can go from heavy Metallica to sweet Eric Johnson. My friend was lookin at Guitar Tabs and I would play all of them!! I didnt let that guitar go even when it was closing time!! A real, true, god over all guitars.

The monster I always come back to

By Matt

from San Bernardino Mountains, CA

I've had my Black Les Paul Custom for 31 years now. I've played many guitars and this is the one I always come back to when I want a huge sound. I played in top 40 cover bands, a punk band in 80-82, a progressive band in the mid 80s, heavy rock in the late 80s, blues and country in the 90s, and a metal/gothic rock band now. It has been through crazy abuse on stage and off and is still great all these years later. This and my modified Strat are all I need to get the variety of sounds I'm going for. Awesome guitar...nuff said!!!

It Is A Dream

By Mark

from Stanton, CA

My Strat, and Ibanez are good but just didn't have that deep resonating sustain that I wanted. When my friend finally let me play his I had to get one. The cost was there but the sound and feel was worth every penny. One of the best investments I've ever made.
