œHere is the ultimate in a solidbody guitar ¦ The Incomparable Les Paul Custom Guitar, ” Gibson catalog, circa mid-1950s

Today' Les Paul Custom is based on the model from the mid-1950s, but with several modern appointments. The body is crafted with a select hand-carved maple top, which is fitted to a body made from a solid piece of mahogany with strategically routed holes to lessen the weight of the guitar, resulting in a Les Paul with enhanced acoustic qualities and improved resonance.

The 24-¾" scale length neck is also made from one solid piece of mahogany then topped by a 22-fret Richlite fingerboard outfitted with pearl block inlays and given Gibson' '60s slim neck profile. The pickups are Gibson' 490R in the neck position, which offers the tonal characteristics of the original PAFs, and the 498T in the bridge position, which swaps the 490R' Alnico II magnet for an Alnico V, thus making it slightly hotter with emphasis on mid-ranges and highs.

Other appointments include Gibson' legendary Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, metal tulip tuners, multi-ply white and black binding on both the top and back, gold hardware and a 1-11/16 nut width.

Comments about Gibson Custom 2014 Les Paul Custom Made To Measure '60s Slim Neck Gold Hardware Electric Guitar:

My original review appears above, this is a follow up after 3 months of using this LPC. I forgot to note that mine is in the natural finish which is absolutely perfect, so beautiful I still gaze at it wistfully. All my notes above still apply, the more I play it the better it feels. The complaints on some boards about the Richlite fretboard still irritate me, it's fine and requires no maintenance, unlike my 335 which needs regular oiling to feel right. The slim taper neck is just right for me. The weight relief is also perfect for me. It stays in perfect tune, I use 9.5 gauge strings. I don't use the bridge pickup unless blended with the neck, and the tones are rich and balanced. When using effects, the tone/balance of the instrument is not lost, when used in moderation. I decided to do this follow up because, although nobody cares, I wanted the world to know that my LPC was not an odd green color. Why they would choose to put this guitar in anything other than a natural finish I do not know, the wood grain is perfectly matched and finished, why hide that under a coat of paint?

Comments about Gibson Custom 2014 Les Paul Custom Made To Measure '60s Slim Neck Gold Hardware Electric Guitar:

I thought my 2012 ES335 was the ultimate blue/jazz guitar until I got the Les Paul Custom. I bought it as a gift to myself after 60 years of playing, to get a little different sound than the 335. I had no idea that this guitar would actually do more of the things than I bought my 335 for, have better tonal balance, more range dynamically and feel even more like a part of me than the 335. You can play delicate rhythm or blow the roof off, and everywhere in between, it always sounds perfect. It's like a MB500SEL, it's perfection. Can't see how anyone could build a better guitar at any price, thanks GC for the great deal by the way.
