Gibson Custom ES-359 AAA Flame Maple Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar (104928502)
Availability:

Sweet bite and full-bodied tone.

The Gibson Custom ES-359 is a semi-hollow electric guitar that adds gold hardware Grover tuners and an ebony fingerboard with large mother-of-pearl block inlays to one of the most exciting guitars in decades: the Gibson ES-339. The ES-359 is part of the next generation of guitars from the Custom Shop of Gibson's iconic ES electric guitars. The Gibson ES-359 delivers bold semi-hollow tone that is rich with expressive even stinging overtones in a smaller solidbody-sized guitar. The Gibson ES-359 has some exciting enhancements including Memphis Tone electronics the 30/60 slender neck profile, ebony fingerboard, and an AAA figured flame maple top, as well as reduced dimensions and weight.

Memphis Tone electronics
Memphis Tone circuitry uses 500K audio taper pots that operate with an interactive load that preserves high end as you turn down the volume. The loading effect preserves the full-bodied tone with rich midrange and singing sustain from the '57 Classic humbucker pickups while adding a very sweet bite. Another difference: the ES-359 guitar's volume is very smooth, rolling off in even increments along with the numbers on the knobs. Since they operate more like how we hear (logarithmically) the controls work the way you think they should. So when you turn down the volume, the highs are still there.

30/60 Neck
Developed with assistance from guitar guru Jon Schwartz, the ES-359 guitar's 30/60 slender neck is a '60s style neck with an extra .030" front-to-back to preserve the semi-hollowbody tone, sustain, and feel while providing smooth playability.

Reduced dimensions and weight
The Gibson ES-359 builds on the success of the semi-hollowbody guitars first introduced by Gibson in 1958 with the ES-335. Lighter and more compact than a traditional semi-hollow guitar, the ES-359 retains the distinct semi-hollowbody electric tone that powered so many hit records and landmark performances.

Outer rim output jack
The ES-359 guitar's output jack is mounted on the outer rim. No more cable crossing the body spoiling your guitar's clean looks and getting in your way.

Two '57 Classic Humbuckers, with 3-way pickup selection plus individual volume and tone controls, provide the incredibly versatile sounds that make the semi-hollow electric famous for its use in jazz, rock, blues, country, and nearly every other style you can think of. Quality Kluson tuners keep retuning time to a minimum, and nickel hardware enhances the great looks.

The Gibson Custom ES-359 Electric Guitar comes with a Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case and a certificate of authenticity.

  • There is a Rock God

As reviewed by Ace Hanley on 7/10/2011

I bought my Gibson ES-359 about a month ago and it does the job. Plays like a ES 335 but without the size and hanging over the guitar. But this ax has all the tone. I am six foot so you would think a standard hollow body would be fine but I find my self hanging over them. This is a must get guitar for anyone that has wanted a hollow body but not the size. This ES 359 rocks and that's what I play, good old heavy rock n roll AC/DC STYLE, and of course sweet blues like slow hand him self. I play all my own stuff, never cover a tune on stage but when I do off stage it does just what is was made for. Great price, I went with the block inlays because I just have to have the top of the line when it comes to all my guitars. The dot inlays are just as good, I just like the fancy look. I hope this help a few fellow rockers and blues men out. And of course our gal rockers that made us men rockers. Need a woman to make a man. Best Regards Ace Hanley of Cherry Ryde.

I started playing guitar a couple years ago. Started with an American Strat. I like classic rock and blues. I started to get more into the Les Paul tones, picked up a couple of LP custom's. Got a Taylor T3 for a semi hollowbody a while back too. I wanted something that was bluesier, more rounded in mid tones, yet still had a little Gibson growl. Looked and played the 335 customs. Nice, very nice. However, wehn playing the 359 side by side it shined. It was brighter, clearer, yet still had a warm tone retaining what i was looking for. Really liked the 335, was tempted, had more of a fatter low and mid range. Was sort of a muddy tone, wghich is VERY cool, but came to the conclusion that while great for solo, it was not ideal for chords and if you have to switch it up (unless you have many guitars) wasnt ideal. The 359 also fit like a glove in may hands. Between comfort and sound, on both front, it came home with me and hasnt been put down very much either. I actually like this much better than my LP Custom, never thought i would say that. Gibson got this model right and would think one would not be disappointed if they got it, unless they were truly looking for a different type of guitar all together. Guitar center was very cool. Got me a private room and brought in all sorts of amps and guitar models for me to ty the difference. Very personalized service, with a satisfaction and price gaurentee...what else could you want. Thanks Guitar Center...

  • Hot is an understatement

I do have to say the first one I got was not really good. The frets were very high and unplayable. The binding was kind of wonky as well. I returned it and exchanged it for another one. The second one is FLAWLESS... It plays like butter and I have to admit that the 57's are my fav PU's. And it is very true about the Memphis Tone circuitry. It actually works for me. I play out of VOX amps and this puppy does not loose tone when I roll her down. And the weight is perfect. I am one proud es-359 owner.
