Gibson Custom ES-339 Figured Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar (106729239)
Availability:

The Gibson ES-339 Figured features a beautiful figured maple body in two finishes, vintage sunburst and cherry. In addition this guitar gives you all of the great features of the ES-339

As with the ES-339, this figured version goes where no guitar has gone before with a bold, new semi-hollow tone that is rich with expressive, even stinging, overtones. The ES-339 figured has some exciting enhancements including Memphis Tone electronics, the 30/60 slender neck profile, and reduced dimensions and weight.

Memphis Tone electronics

Memphis Tone circuitry uses 500K audio taper pots that operate with an interactive load that preserves high end as you turn down the volume. The loading effect preserves the full-bodied tone with rich midrange and singing sustain from the '57 Classic humbuckers while adding a very sweet bite. Another difference: the volume is very smooth, rolling off in even increments along with the numbers on the knobs. Since they operate more like how we hear (logarithmically), the controls work the way the player thinks they should. So when you turn down the volume, the highs are still there!

30/60 Neck

Developed in assistance from guitar guru Jon Schwartz, the 30/60 slender neck is a '60s style neck with an extra .030" front-to-back to preserve the semi-hollowbody tone, sustain, and feel while providing smooth playability.

Reduced dimensions and weight

The ES-339 Figured builds on the success of the semi-hollowbody guitars first introduced by Gibson in 1958 with the ES-335. Lighter and more compact than a traditional semi-hollow guitar, the ES-339 Figured retains the distinct semi-hollowbody electric tone that powered so many hit records and landmark performances.

Outer rim output jack

Here's one ES players have been wanting: The output jack is mounted on the outer rim. No more cable crossing the body, spoiling the guitar's clean looks and getting in your way.

Two '57 Classic Humbuckers with 3-way pickup selection plus individual volume and tone controls provide the incredibly versatile sounds that make the semi-hollow electric famous for its use in jazz, rock, blues, country, and nearly every other style you can think of. Quality Kluson tuners keep retuning time to a minimum, and nickel hardware enhances the great looks.

To show off its vintage vibe, the ES-339 is available in a choice of two finishes: Cherry and Vintage Sunburst. The lacquer finish is applied with a light, even touch, allowing the guitar's wood to resonate naturally while providing a protective, mirror-like shine. The ES-339 comes with a Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity.

  • Fits the gap between the ES-335 and Les Paul very well

As reviewed by Geosh on 6/7/2010

I played an ES-339 (with a 60/30 neck) for quite a while now and it is a great guitar, and the figured tops make this guitar look stunning! The finish work from Gibson was really well done and looked excellent. Once I got the action set up the way I liked it (low) the guitar played fantastically. The frets were well done and the neck was dead straight. As for the sound, this guitar is sort of its own animal. If you like Gibson tone, this one will not disappoint. I compared it side by side against a Les Paul and an ES-335 and the ES-339 seems to take a few characteristics tonally from both. It had the woody & open sound of the 335 but had a tighter bottom end and more defined mid-range and highs like on my Les Paul. Clean, it sounded very warm and nice but very clean and defined with chords. With an overdriven amp was where I liked it best as it was fat but still cut through the mix really well. The only thing I didn't really like was the Nashville tone circuit. It keeps the highs as you roll back the volume as advertised, but my volume seemed to go from "10" to "2" with only a small change on the knob. Other than that, the guitar is great! If you are looking for ES-335 type tones in a smaller package, or something a little different than the Les Paul but still rocking, this is definitely a guitar worth checking out!!

  • Dream Guitar

As reviewed by Butterbean 751 on 6/7/2010

This is the guitar of my dreams. I saw this in the guitar center catalog, and immediately had to go try it in the store. This guitar not only has a slick, cool finish but also has an amazing tone. This guitar sounds great both distorted, clean, and everything in between. I reccommend this to any player who loves to play.

  • Gibson Custom ES-399

As reviewed by Victor on 6/6/2010

I recently went to a show and I came back Very impressed. The guitar Player Really was tearing it up all night and the Guitar he was using was the Gibson Custom ES-399. The tone that he was able to get was very rich and he was able to play very versatile styles of guitar on the ES- 399. I went to try it out my self and I must say that the tone is amazing. The cherry Finish on the body was great and the feel of it was fine as well. Its an easy pick up and play guitar. I don't have any complaints about the guitar as it is something that I plan to buy in the future. I Currently am playing a Strat, but I wanted another Guitar to give me as much yet different sort of tones. This is the one. Four Easy to use Knobs. not much else said. This Guitar Rocks Period.
