Heavy and expensive, and yet...

The 1968 Les Paul Custom is fantastic. There's no replacement for a genuine Les Paul. I run it through a Vox AC-30 and it just purrs. The tri-burst is gorgeous. It'll wear a hole in your shoulder though. They don't drill holes in the body so the guitar is extremely heavy. That gives it a brighter sound and more sustain though. Les Pauls tend to be on the darker side tone-wise so the extra brightness does wonders for the tone of this guitar. As with all Gibsons, it's ridiculously priced, but if you've got the extra cash, definitely consider this guitar.

worth every penny!!

i own several les pauls and the '68 has to have the best tone of any guitar i have owned or played, i have the tri burst, and i have to say it is also one of the most beautiful instruments out there. the ONLY downsides are that its slightly heavy and VERY expensive, but for the price you are getting one hell of a guitar. i play on a marshall vs100 head and cab with only a dunlop "slash" wah, the sound emitted by this guitar is absolutely incredible. the sustain goes on for days, deep, mellow with a nice bite. a work of art.

Amazing

I must say, that I have yet to play a better guitar. While it is pretty dang heavy, its the fact that they DONT drill holes in the body that give it that rich, classic, Les Paul sustain and warmth. The tone is amazing, and in comparison to my 1980 LP Custom, the pickups are definetely hotter and sound better. The tri-burst that I have is beautiful and the neck feels great. Definetely consider this guitar if you got the cash, nothing beats an LP Custom

Sell your other guitars for this!

This is the best Les Paul I've ever played. It's also the lightest I've ever played. It's no Strat when it comes to weight, but when it comes down to looks and sound, this is the guitar you want. I used to play a Les Paul Goldtop custom, so it's a nice change. The tone range is insane, and this guitar refuses to detune on even two-note bends. Using a Fender '65 Reverb (original, not reissue), with an RP-100A processor, Green Screamer, Boss DD-3, and JH-B1 Signature Wah pedal. Best tone, I will NEVER EVER EVER sell this guitar. Buy it if you can afford it, it's not overpriced, you'll get your money's worth.

unbelievable tone

I own the "flame-top" version of this guitar as well as many others: Fenders, Ibanez, Ovation Adamas, Squire (yes Squire, I have a sweet sounding Pro-Tone)and several others, but nothing beats the sound and feel of a genuine Gibson LP Custom, and this is one that not only plays like a dream but you can stare at it for hours! Yes, it weighs a ton, but that weight is where the sound comes from, so keep this one at home for practice and recording and bragging rights, and get a Studio for the stage. And, by the way, I played no less than eight to ten LP's the day I bought this one... it won hands down!
