A historic Custom Shop masterpiece.

In 1960, it offered guitarists all the features that made the Les Paul famous for a moderate price, but it soon became a lean-and-mean favorite in its own right. This custom shop re-creation features a solid mahogany body and neck, 2 P-90 magnetic pickups, nickel hardware, wrap-around tailpiece, multilayered black/white pickguard, and black pickup covers, just like the original.

Gibson's Custom Shop produces some of the finest electric guitars on earth. Using the best materials money can buy, a staff of skilled luthiers reproduce some of the greatest Gibsons of the past and create stunning new instruments for players and collectors who demand the best.

  • Very nice guitar

As reviewed by Daniel Hoae'ae-Lewis on 11/26/2010

I bought the reissue DC in TV yellow after watching Keith Richards play "Start Me Up" live on one. The action very good, the nut is a but narrower than my SG 61 reissue but still plays very well. The pickups do buzz when you're not playing but that vintage bite to smooth butter cleans makes it worth it. The guitar hangs well because of that standard LP weight, I use a wider strap so it doesn't dig into my shoulder that much. The color takes some getting used to but most folks like it because it is different. The headstock and fretboard inlays are mother of pearl, a very nice tough. I it play through a tube Marshall, Vox valvetronics, and a Crate Vintage Club 50 and it sounds great. I would recommend buying this guitar if you like vintage rock, blues, jazz or country. It can jam on newer rock and metal to a degree but that is deffinately not its best attribute. I hope this helps.

  • Nice Guitar

As reviewed by Darren on 10/8/2010

This is a fabulous sounding and playing guitar. The P-90 pickups in this thing are incredible, especially through an open back fender amp. The action was perfect as is and the intonation was as close to perfect as could be on a guitar with a wrap-tailpiece. That being said, I come to the one negative thing I found. The main reason why I bought this particular guitar was because I always wanted a guitar in the famous "TV Yellow" color finish. Although Guitar Center has this listed as a "TV Yellow" finish it is anything but that. I have seen an original 1958 Gibson Double Cutaway in TV Yellow and this guitar is nothing close to that. Infact, it doesn't even look anything remotely close to even the pictures shown here on guitar center. The guitar is actually a natural color, with a hint of a lime green but TV Yellow it is not. I'm not sure who's fault that is... Probably both Gibson and Guitar Center. Gibson made the original DC in TV Yellow so they should have the same recipe for that finish and Guitar Center should do a better job with the images of the guitars posted to look like the actual thing. If I buy a guitar I expect it to look like what I think I'm buying based on their pictures they have posted.
