I have this pickup on my gibson flying v and my friend has it on his explorer. If you want no b.s. metal look no further. Pinch harmonics sound incredible and are easy to do with these. You get real heavy chugging palm mutes and lead shredding sounds great!

I have these on a faded Flying V that I bought a few years back. They are excellent for that high-gain palm muted sound that has become definitive for certain strands of heavy metal (black metal and sludge bands don't do a lot of p.m.'ing). Though I like metal, it's not all I listen to, and definitely not all I play. I thought "this pickup cannot be a 1-trick pony." No, it's not--I just have to be smarter than the pickup. There are three ways to make it work: tweek the amp's tone controls to achieve a balanced sound (especially by cutting bass and midrange frequencies), adjusting pickup height, and putting a metal cover on it to make it sound "creamier." I do the first two options, with mids slightly scooped, and with the pickup height set about 3/8" below the strings, which gives me a spongy, sparkly response not unlike a P-90, with excellent touch sensitivity. In conjunction with the 496R, lead tones are heavenly. Not high-output, I know, but I don't see myself playing (fill in the blank for your favorite death/grind/metalcore/retro-thrash band here) anytime soon, anyways. I may still replace the 500T/496R set with Burstbucker Pro's or Duncan Sh-1's, but we'll see.

I bought this and put it on my guitar. The next day I sent it back because of the quality.
