  • Les Paul Classic- Wine Red

As reviewed by Douglas on 9/17/2014

During the 1960's, when I first set my sights on a Gibson Les Paul, I would have needed to drive 90 minutes to find one to play. Guitar Center not only offers some of the most competitive pricing, but also presents an opportunity for players to see/play instruments in person due to their many stores. The Wine Red Classic was aesthetically flawless. The action was as good as I remembered a Les Paul to be. However, I opted to recruit a third party to set up my new Gibson to bring out it's full potential. Opening the cover to the truss rod seemed to me like treading near Pandora's box. I was glad to have an authorized luthier completing this physical exam and minor surgery! A subtle tightening was necessary prior to checking/altering the tolerances at the fingerboard and bridge. Guitar Center is a trusted, full service arena for guitars, but since I was also having my vintage Martin acoustic evaluated, I brought them both to Brookfield, Ct for "laying on of the hands" by Barry Lipman. Absolutely no regrets! The guitar is beautiful, plays like a dream and I now know that anything closer to perfection can only be found in heaven.

  • An updated Classic!

As reviewed by TIM on 5/30/2014

What can you say about a Les Paul that hasn't been said umpteen times before? When the 2014 Gibsons came out, the first one that caught my eye was the sea foam green Les Paul Classic. What a stunning finish! I love that Gibson has expanded their color-schemes beyond the traditional bursts. After ordering it in-store, It took a little more than a month to be delivered because of the high demand for that specific color. But it was worth the wait! Aside from it's gorgeous appearance, the updated LP Classic is an incredible addition to the Gibson lineup. The traditional weight-relief is super comfortable. The 57 zebras rock! You can get a huge array of tones with the coil tapping volume knobs. I prefer locking Grover tuners to the Klusons, but they are stable - so I can't complain. But the big news to the LP Classic is the 15db gain boost. I find this to be a really cool tool to use for solos. It does require a 9volt battery that is inserted on the back of the guitar. HOWEVER - if you don't want to use the switch as a boost - take out the battery and it becomes a KILL SWITCH. It's a pretty neat trick that can be easily overlooked. I love this LP. I'd highly recommend the new Classic to anyone seeking a high-end, solid guitar that is destined to be a collector's item. Nice job Gibson USA.

  • A Classic Reborn

As reviewed by EUGENE on 6/22/2014

Amazing steps to improve an already incredible Classic style, stepping into the future with Technology-but staying with foundational design. My hat is off to you Gibson for taking a leap into changes and still making a terrific playing instrument, looking to improve and not to forget your roots. The Les Paul Classic plays well with sustain and incredible clarity up and down the neck. 15db boost is adjustable to your playing needs as well a Master tone that gives you complete control to your tone. The Zebra pick ups are kicking-with the ability to split your pick-ups. The Gibson 2014 Classic is a great buy for the working guitarists-I would recommend this guitar to anyone who enjoys playing music
