A mahogany body with carved maple top, 490R/498T pickups and pure rock tone.

Since 1983, Gibson USA has been proving not only that less is sometimes more, but also that less can sometimes knock your socks off – when it comes in the form of the popular no-nonsense Les Paul Studio model, at least. Originally designed as a model for studio artists but adopted wholeheartedly by countless players of all stripes, the 2013 Les Paul Studio combines stripped-down appointments with the full tonal splendor and unrivaled playability of a Les Paul Standard.

All the elements of the legendary Les Paul Standard are still there, including that fat and sweet maple-and-mahogany tone through two genuine Gibson humbucking pickups. By eliminating a little of the window dressing – namely, building the guitar without binding around the body top or fingerboard, and applying an elegant gold silkscreened logo in place of an inlay – the Les Paul Studio weighs in at a price that players have found irresistible for three decades. It also physically weighs less. The mahogany body comes with “modern” weight relieving that is carefully applied inside the mahogany back to provide outstanding balance while optimizing the sonic capabilities of the guitar.

Crucial elements of the Les Paul Studio’s design include the carved maple top and mahogany body, glued-in mahogany neck with back-angled headstock, granadillo fingerboard, Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece – all design points that have been making Les Pauls the most desirable tone monsters available since the late 1950s. For electronics, a set of Gibson’s 498T and 490R Alnico humbucking pickups squeeze every drop of tone from the instrument, and now feature coil-taps for an even broader range of tonal possibilities.

With these classic ingredients, the Les Paul Studio gives you all the sonic versatility you could ask for, from sultry, warm bluesy tones to powerful crunch to sizzling lead tones. Finally, the Les Paul Studio is supremely playable too, thanks to its slim-taper 60's neck profile and a chambered mahogany body that reduces the weight while enhancing resonance, making it outstandingly comfortable strapped on or seated. Includes case.

  • Silver Pearl

As reviewed by Frank M Miller on 1/18/2013

I ordered the Gibson Les Paul 2012 Studio Silver Pearl from Somesh at the Hallandale, FL Guitar Center. Somesh was extremely helpful and was a true professional. This was the first guitar I have ever purchased. The Silver Pearl finish is brilliant, clean, sharp, and conservative. Not sure why it is priced much less expensive than the other finishes. Words that come to mind when looking at this guitar in person and playing it are: masterpiece of guitar engineering (if there is such a word), solid (but light), meticulous attention to detail, pride in workmanship, quality of materials, serious design. I am proud to own it.

  • Best guitar I've owned

As reviewed by Jared Scoggins on 11/19/2012

I've been playing for about a year and a half mostly self taught during a vacation I decided to go into guitar center with a wallet full of cash and my eyes set on going out with a stratocaster after playing seven stratocasters and trying an SG and a flying V I saw out of the corner of my eye a black Les Paul studio after trying it for quite some time I knew I HAD to have this guitar after a few minutes of chatting with the courteous staff in nashville I got to walk with my guitar before I had it I played on a clean only amp as soon as I plugged this beauty in the pick ups drove this amp to becoming a monster and playing some nice rock tone on a small 30w solid state amp meant for clean playing only but the rhythm pick setting put the clean tone back in but sounded 100x better I was a stratocaster player only but now I'm a coverted les paul lover get this guitar and you will have it for life and it will only play better and better with proper care and love

  • A Masterpiece

As reviewed by Ian O'Kelly on 7/9/2012

After saving for months, I was recently gifted this guitar for my birthday, and have barely put it down since. The Fireburst color scheme is breathtaking, and makes it a unique piece in my collection. The versatility of the tone and coil tap knobs allow this guitar to replicate nearly any sound, something that a Strat has no capability of. Even without effects pedals or any distortion and reverb, it has a wonderful sound.
