Gibson 2013 Les Paul '60s Tribute Electric Guitar (108573007)
Availability:

A celebration of the Les Pauls that rocked the world.

The 2013 Les Paul ’60s Tribute captures the look, feel, and tone of a classic evolution of this legendary single-cutaway solidbody, the Les Paul of 1960. Like the final guitars in the original run of Les Paul Standards, the Les Paul ’60s Tribute carries a pair of PAF-style humbucking pickups, the most revered pickup ever created, along with the fast, comfortable slim neck profile characteristic of the start of that decade. Gibson’s most acclaimed hardware set ensures smooth playability and offers precise tuning and intonation.

In the image of the greatest Les Paul Standards ever made, the Les Paul ’60s Tribute starts with the classic tonewood combination of a mahogany body with solid carved maple top. When paired together, these woods offer a tonal depth and complexity unmatched by any single-wood construction, with warmth and richness from the mahogany, and superb clarity and “snap” from the maple, all of which translates beautifully to the guitar’s amplified sound.

The mahogany back is strategically weight relieved to both lighten your load and improve resonance. A solid mahogany neck is glued into the body in Gibson’s time-tested tradition, and carved to a fast, slim 60s profile that measures .800” at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. It is topped with a genuine rosewood fingerboard that carries 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays.

In keeping with the stripped-down ethos of this powerful performer, both body and ’board remain unbound, and there’s no pickguard to obscure the finish. A PLEK-cut nut made from black Corian™ subtly complements the black speed knobs and black pickup rings, while enhancing resonance and sustain. The traditional back-angled headstock is silkscreened with a gold Gibson logo and Les Paul Model.

The Les Paul ’60s Tribute takes its firepower from a pair of BurstBucker™ humbucking pickups; a BurstBucker 1™ at the neck and a slightly hotter BurstBucker 2™ at the bridge. The BurstBuckers™ humbuckers are some the most accurate recreations of vintage PAF humbuckers available today. These great pickups adhere strictly to Seth Lover’s original formula, which includes a genuine Alnico II bar magnet in each pickup and slightly mismatched coils wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire for the characteristic edge and bite that has made original PAFs legendary.

The traditional wiring complement of an independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations. To anchor it all down, Gibson USA loads in a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, with a set of genuine Grover™ kidney button tuners, a hardware set that partners up for solid sustain and precision tuning. Put it all together, and the Les Paul ’60s Tribute presents the perfect celebration of Les Paul’s genius and achievement, wrapping it all into a great guitar that brings the look, feel, and sound of the original humbucker-loaded Les Pauls to the hands of players of today.

Each guitar includes a black Gibson gig bag, owner’s manual and truss-rod wrench.

    Rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays

  • This one is point to point wired!

    As reviewed by 2081980 2081980 on 12/29/2012

"The traditional wiring complement of an independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations." Well folks; that statement from the description says is all. This one is an actual Les Paul with real pots, hand soldering, a gibson metal control cavity base plate and real tone from alnico II burstbuckers. When I got this thing home from the GC, I sat down and inspected the satin finish...looked pretty smooth....so I took it completely apart and commenced to buff out the finish. Success! The shine came right up. Had the Pickup rings up and noticed the braided wiring...I wondered how they were going to attach that to the PCB that all the recent Gibbys I've had come with. So, off comes the control cavity cover and look what I found. I clipped the cheap ceramic disk caps and soldered in some nice allparts PIO caps and put the girl back together and set it up. The neck adjustment was spot on already and the bridge was already perfectly intonated...interesting and good. Frets a wee sharp, but will wait till it acclimatizes to the area before I pass judgement on needing filed. Anyhow...plugged into the Marshall DSL 100H , I am rewarded with Les Paul goodness for my thousand clams. You'll notice that the Studio Deluxe prices are coming down to this level in January. Of couse it has a gloss finish and 490R and BB PRos so is a different beast.....but I sure do wonder if it has the Printed Circuit board that makes me want to gut it and fix. THe description says Controls include dual volume and push/pull tone controls to engage coil-splitting for an array of tones," So my guess is YEP. Sorry for the rambling..Yes I like this Lester. It is truly a no frills tone machine...and that is it's charm.

  • Good Value

As reviewed by NICK MEYER on 10/15/2013

I've been wanting a decent Les Paul for a while, but I'm not going to be spending $3000 plus on a guitar any time soon. When I saw this one priced as it is, I had to try it out. It's actually the first new model LP I've tried and liked. For a cheaper Les Paul, it looks nice, too. Things I like- Good woodwork. It feels like a nice guitar. The finish feels nice, especially on the back of the neck. The neck is comfortable, but not shreddy, which I like. The fret wire is pretty thick, which takes away somewhat from how fast the neck is, but also means the frets will last a while. The guitar itself feels really solid and resonant. The parts used feel solid. I like that it doesn't weigh 20 pounds, too. The pots have a smooth taper, and the tone pots have a nice sweep. What I don't like- The bridge pickup sounds kind of muddy and anemic. It seems so focused on the bass and treble frequencies that the midrange gets drowned out, so it lacks the ballsy, crunchy, airy tone I'd expect from a Les Paul, and doesn't really bloom into feedback the way I'd like. The neck pickup seems alright, but I think I'll replace that eventually, too. Replacing the pickups would be easy enough, but all the electronics are mounted to a PCB. I don't know why Gibson would use a PCB for such simple wiring. As it is, the pickups are attached via two removable connectors on the PCB. This would be nice, if I could find the pickup I want with that connector. As it is, I can't. I'm considering rewiring the whole thing. Overall, it's a solid guitar, and sounds pretty damn good for the money, but it doesn't seem like it was made with upgradeability in mind, so 4/5.

  • Great Guitar!

As reviewed by Phillip Blanchard on 1/8/2014

I've been practicing/playing for 18 year, this is my second electric guitar; my first was a jazz hollowbody which I bought as my "first guitar" (18 years ago) and sold six months afterwards to focus on acoustic. Over the years, I've played electric guitars at stores, but preferred the natural sound of acoustic as electric left a "synthetic" feeling when playing - wasn't tranquil. The last two years have primarily been classical nylon, but I decided to sell my Ramirez classical because I just couldn't grow the nails and you just don't get the "great sound" from nylons without the nails. Irregardless, I learnt much right hand technique on nylon. My goal moving forward is focussed on jazz theory (but I like rock just as well). Getting to the point, I sold my classical, had some funds and went into Guitar Center without any goal of buying another guitar anytime soon. Strolling around GC, I noticed a new sunburst Les Paul that was on clearance for $699. The sales person pulled it down; I took it to a 12' Marshall Combo amp and was blown away by the sound! Not only that, but the natural feel and look of the mahogany neck/back was a nice touch. I tested it unplugged and sensed great sustain and a depth that was not the case in many of the electric guitars that I've handled over the years; the neck on the 60's tribute feels great; the playability and sound seems to say "finally, we meet". It was like it was meant to be. It's funny how guitars are. I like the sound of the burstbucker pickups, gives it a dark and full sound; I particularly like the neck pickup. The range of sound between the two humbuckers, independent volume and tone pots are awesome and provide a variety of sound alterations with slight adjustments. I ended up purchasing a used Fender SuperChamp XD (tube) and I am taken away by the warmth and depth of the sounds coming from this axe. I've grown quite fond of the clean sound (through the tubes). This guitar is so enjoyable to play. The shape and weight of this guitar has it's pro's and con's; most of which can be minimized with a comfortable strap. Quality wise, I don't see any finishing or electronic issues; the action is smooth and seems to be at proper height (may have the E and A lowered on nut a little). Overall, quality is top-notch. I researched other guitars in this price range and this stood out as being a great deal.
