In 1960 Gibson's Les Paul Standard still had the carved flamed maple top, sunburst finish, and "Patent Applied For" pickups of its predecessors, but a slim-tapered neck was added for a decidedly different feel. These final adjustments failed to save the Standard, however, and after 1960 the single cutaway Les Paul was replaced by the thin-bodied double-cutaway SG.

This fabulous reissue captures the original line in its last days of glory. From bumble bee caps and CTS pots to the long neck tenon and gentle VOS aging, it looks, plays, and sounds so real only the geekiest of geeks would be able to tell it from an original.

Vintage Original Spec series instruments receive a special nitro-cellulose finish treatment yielding the patina of a gently-aged vintage guitar while handcrafting enhances comfort and playability. Each VOS model has a solid mahogany back; historically accurate long-neck tenon for strength and sustain; and period-correct neck profile, hardware, and electronics.

    I always wondered what was so special about custom shop guitars. Well after playing this guitar Once I knew I had to have it. It totaly blew away my 2005 Les Paul standard. it is also a little lighter then the 2005. It is the first guitar I've ever owned that I didn't have to set up after I brought it home. Worth every penny

    This guitar is absolutely the cleanest, smoothest, and most beautiful instrument I have ever played I bought mine in January and I can hardly put it down. If your serious about your music and want to sound the best you possibly can save up the $$$ to buy this thing, you will not regret it. The tone it puts out on my Marshall amp is un matched by anything else. Good Luck and choose wisely before looking any farther...

    Bought this in honey-burst about a month ago and pushing it through a Crate V32 in the studio. It is everything a Les Paul should be. This thing sounds and looks amazing. The tone and sustain are remarkable. Remember, these things are coming from the Custom Shop at Gibson which only has about 80 dedicated employees who only produce the best hand made guitars. Go ahead and spend the money. This thing is so much better than any assembly line LP-Standard with a routed body. My grandkids will get this one in about 20 years.
