Overall, I like this pedal. Once I got used to the action, I found it pretty easy to play. The big problem I had with it is that it doesn't come ready-to-go out of the box. It needs to be adjusted, which is easy only if you know how. Be sure to watch Gibraltar's YouTube video on adjusting the pedal before you use it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT7x8y1gyQw If you adjust it wrong, you can shred the cable on the first use and render it useless. I found this out the hard way. Adjusting the pedal wasn't intuitive to me because none of my other pedals adjust this way, which is why watching the video is so important.

Another issue is the cajon mount. I used to tip my cajon back slightly by adjusting the front feet. As it stands, even with the feet adjusted to their minimum height, the cajon mount doesn't really allow the beater mount to rest on the floor. This seems like an oversight on Gibraltar's part. Also, the pedal itself has no spikes. It only has hook side of Velcro on the bottom to keep it from sliding on carpets. With low-pile carpets, this works pretty well. With high-pile carpets, as I experienced recently, this is insufficient for keeping the pedal in place. It kept traveling away from me.

When I first got my cajon and played it at a couple shows, the bending over required to play it hurt my back. After seeing another drummer play his cajon with bundle sticks, I tried that and was able to put my cajon back into service. This pedal adds another dimension to my playing with this instrument. It's much less expensive than the only alternative I've seen and much lighter and more compact. If Gibraltar added spikes to the pedal and a height adjustment to the beater, it would be an even better product, although I'm sure that would add to the cost.

This was a gift, and so a sight unseen purchase.

A bit problematic out of the box. It functioned initially but quickly the pedal went to the floor.

Many adjustment points, so not for the timid adjuster. A deeper owner's manual is needed beyond the single page downloadable from the Gibraltar web site.

Alignment of the cable connector tube exit points on both the pedal and beater ends is difficult in both axis. See potential for cable wear at those points (see breakage problems elsewhere here). I will adjust as best I can and apply lithium grease at both points.

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

The concept of a Cajon pedal is great! Frees one hand for shaker and other percussion.

The Gibraltar pedal has two major drawbacks:
1. Beater attachment to Cajon. Long and bulky, not easy to tote or store in bag, takes too much time to install. Bad design.
2. Pedal cable breaks easily. I've gone thru two cables in less than six months. The 2nd cable was the "new and improved". Bad design is the problem, not the cable. Current design creates work hardening on cable that quickly frays and breaks.

I devised a direct drive system with the Gibraltar pedal that eliminates the cable and the beater attachment. Works great. I offered the idea to Gibraltar for free, but they're not interested.

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

VERY DIFFICULT TO SET UP-basically sucks and deserves zero stars on any star rating system

at it's best it is noisy (friction from the cable entering the tube near the beater; there's no way to line it up properly). Even then, the SLIGHTEST adjustment throws the entire thing completely out of whack. - I have zero confidence that it will work after transportation and setup on a gig. Way too many adjustment possibilities and poor engineering. Bad Gibraltar, very bad.

The mounting bracket and the beater are decent. If you need a solution for a stomping sound while playing guitar (which would be cool),I guess that would work.... I don't know if the cost of the whole thing is worth keeping it for those two parts, though.

I'm disappointed in Gibraltar—they usually have better stuff. I actually wouldn't recommend this to an enemy.....

      Not too sure!!!

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

Listen....it's a fantastic idea, but it needs to be beefed up for sure!!! I was very excited to want to own one so, when the price dropped I jumped on it. Brand new and a gig coming up, I opened it up, got it out of the box, did my best to figure out all the moving parts and used it. Great...right?? Not too sure. Why? Well, it needed quite a bit of adjusting and it wasn't easy. Okay, I'm NOT a rocket scientist so, I did the best I could and it appeared to work. Next gig, during rehearsal (thank God), the cable snapped, like a toothpick...I might add!!!! Un-repairable!!! If you don't know how it's supposed to be adjusted, then you're screwed, unless you have a backup and that means cable....right??? NO, it means another, already to go pedal....hmmmmmm. So, you figure it out. The good news is that I was able to return it to the store in time for the staff to check on things. They ordered a new cable, under warranty and I'm hoping that this is all it will take for good and all, but remember my title of this review??? Try it for yourself and decide. Good Luck.

This is amazing. The product is a great idea. Gibraltar certainly has the means to make it, but they haven't yet. If you need this for a gig, buy it, It's worth it. If you just think it is cool, don't buy it, it doesn't work we'll enough yet. Wait a year for them to make it better.

The cable broke after first use at a gig. I am NOT a heavy footed drummer. Gibraltar beefed up the cable from their previous model, but it pulled right out of the connector located on the end. Not real happy about this.

            New model for 2014?

            By Michael Holt

            from Snohomish, WA

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

There are a couple of options for this pedal -- the $99 version with the black pedal, and the $139 version "with bag". First, the "bag" that came with this is just a very cheap tote bag, and a little small at that -- kind of silly that it's even included. The pedal however, appears to be quite well made. Though this page is not very clear on what you're getting, the $139 version appears to be a newer model which may have addressed some of the problems that people experienced with the first version. The cable is fairly heavy and there is no stress at the points where the cable attaches to either end -- the end pivots on the pedal side of the cable. Check the Gibraltar website for "what's new". OK, the reason for 4 stars... This is an interesting concept, so I'm still trying to figure out how to make it useful in a performance. The pedal takes up a good amount of space on the cajon, so it can be tricky to get your hands in there as well. The cable is also fairly short, so you're limited on where you can route the cable. If you have another drum on the floor in front of you, it ends up sitting on the cable, and it can be tricky trying to find a good spot to rest the secondary drum. Finally, because it's a cable driven pedal, the feel is not quite the same as direct drive -- it's a little bit of a "spongy" feel. Response is not the same, and it will take a little bit to master. All in all, I am glad to have made this purchase, because it adds an interesting dynamic. I will have to experiment more to find the right fit, but I like it. I would recommend a larger cajon for this, and regardless of the size of cajon, place the pedal off to one side of the face of the drum to increase the amount of room you have for your hands or brushes. Also, it might be worth considering a cajon with two or more faces, so that you can dedicate one of the faces to the pedal and play the other face(s) with your hands.

            Don't buy the opt. bag

            By Bernie Niehus

            from Perris CA

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

The pedal works very well, I made the mistake of ordering it with the opt bag. The bag is like a $1.00 shopping bag you can get at most stores. So if you order just get the pedal, and buy a far better bag later.
