Not too sure!!!

By ELLIS

from Littleton, CO

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

Listen....it's a fantastic idea, but it needs to be beefed up for sure!!! I was very excited to want to own one so, when the price dropped I jumped on it. Brand new and a gig coming up, I opened it up, got it out of the box, did my best to figure out all the moving parts and used it. Great...right?? Not too sure. Why? Well, it needed quite a bit of adjusting and it wasn't easy. Okay, I'm NOT a rocket scientist so, I did the best I could and it appeared to work. Next gig, during rehearsal (thank God), the cable snapped, like a toothpick...I might add!!!! Un-repairable!!! If you don't know how it's supposed to be adjusted, then you're screwed, unless you have a backup and that means cable....right??? NO, it means another, already to go pedal....hmmmmmm. So, you figure it out. The good news is that I was able to return it to the store in time for the staff to check on things. They ordered a new cable, under warranty and I'm hoping that this is all it will take for good and all, but remember my title of this review??? Try it for yourself and decide. Good Luck.

New model for 2014?

By Michael Holt

from Snohomish, WA

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

There are a couple of options for this pedal -- the $99 version with the black pedal, and the $139 version "with bag". First, the "bag" that came with this is just a very cheap tote bag, and a little small at that -- kind of silly that it's even included. The pedal however, appears to be quite well made. Though this page is not very clear on what you're getting, the $139 version appears to be a newer model which may have addressed some of the problems that people experienced with the first version. The cable is fairly heavy and there is no stress at the points where the cable attaches to either end -- the end pivots on the pedal side of the cable. Check the Gibraltar website for "what's new". OK, the reason for 4 stars... This is an interesting concept, so I'm still trying to figure out how to make it useful in a performance. The pedal takes up a good amount of space on the cajon, so it can be tricky to get your hands in there as well. The cable is also fairly short, so you're limited on where you can route the cable. If you have another drum on the floor in front of you, it ends up sitting on the cable, and it can be tricky trying to find a good spot to rest the secondary drum. Finally, because it's a cable driven pedal, the feel is not quite the same as direct drive -- it's a little bit of a "spongy" feel. Response is not the same, and it will take a little bit to master. All in all, I am glad to have made this purchase, because it adds an interesting dynamic. I will have to experiment more to find the right fit, but I like it. I would recommend a larger cajon for this, and regardless of the size of cajon, place the pedal off to one side of the face of the drum to increase the amount of room you have for your hands or brushes. Also, it might be worth considering a cajon with two or more faces, so that you can dedicate one of the faces to the pedal and play the other face(s) with your hands.

Don't buy the opt. bag

By Bernie Niehus

from Perris CA

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

The pedal works very well, I made the mistake of ordering it with the opt bag. The bag is like a $1.00 shopping bag you can get at most stores. So if you order just get the pedal, and buy a far better bag later.

TERRIBLE

By ed williams

from Drexel, NC

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

This is one of the most poorly designed/built pieces of 'gear' that I have ever purchased. After approximately 30 mins of light playing (pedal on cajon and some brush work with snare), the cable snapped at the point of 'connection' and is IMPOSSIBLE to repair. DO NOT rely on this pedal for a live performance! I am still in shock that Gibraltar would sell such a waste of money (and time). I am returning to GC for store credit, new splash cymbal maybe?

Don't Buy

By Lenny Lenny

from Atlanta Ga

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

I purchased one and the cable broke off of the clip that holds it in place withing 15 minutes. If you use this for a gig, have a plan b, because it is impossible to fix to get through the show. Once it breaks, its done. I saw this same issue on other reviews, but figured it was a fluke and trusted the Gibraltar name, I still have a hard time believing they put this thing out, once it breaks, anyone can see the poor design. I have yet to bring it back to Guitar center, so it will be interesting to see how they handle the situation. I really don't even one another one, I think the same thing will happen, and I don't want to waste my time....However, I love the concept, and if someone makes a functional semi pro level quality kick, i'd be all over it.

Great Invention!!

By Francisco Molina

from Guatemala

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

I'm a drummer and percussionist and I have an acustic cover band and use my set Peruvian cajon and always was a bit tricky to play songs including cymbals or minor percussion to be heard really good. So I decided to buy the Gibraltar Cajon Pedal, and when i got it and install it on my Cajon, the response was very positive, you can easily adjust the wire, and the sound it produces is really good. The only bad thing is that the bottom of the pedal is smooth and if you use it on a wooden surface or normal floor glides easily, I solved by putting a grip fabric with mounting tape, and the problem was solved. I've been using it a month and a half and it ROCKS! : D

A good idea... the rest is up to you...

By Paul Pelham

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Gibraltar Cajon Pedal with Mount:

First off; it's nice to have the cajon out in front of you if you're playing guitar. You now have a place to put your stuff; tuner, capo, recorder, beverage, etc. Second- Yes, it will help you have a fuller sound to a couple of guitars, esp. when combined w/pedal or floor-based tambourine. But.. it's not as easy at it looks to have alternating single & double cajon bass beats, alternating with the tambo. Now for the P.I.T.A. side: The mechanicals. The linkage/cable adjustments continue to move out of adjust during the evening, when you find you will have no beater strike into the cajon, even though you're hitting the pedal. I've been trying to deal w/ this for over a month now, & I am pretty mechanically inclined. I'm half tempted just to take the cable out of the system & just hook the pedal/beater assembly right to the cajon itself. On the upside, there is a Gibraltar video on YouTube showing it's features, but it needs to go into depth. You can use it, however, to stop-motion & make sure you have everything hooked up correctly. As a musician, you will bring more to the mix if you can make this work for you. It will sound like there's more of a band in the room.
