I just bought a PDP DP402 double bass pedal and was disappointed with the way it sounded and the feel of the beaters on the drum head, I figured I'd try looking for a bass pad like this and see if it helped. I was blown away with how well the pad deadened the drum and gave it more of a punchy "Korn" kind of sound. It makes the bass drum incredibly sensitive due to the metal plates inside it and if you have a ported resonant head it doubles the effect. I wanna buy some wooden beaters now and see what that sounds like!
Had this on my Evans EMAD and loved it. It wore out after about a year, and I decided to try the cordura type Evans beater pads as replacements. Bad choice. The difference in the amount the bass drum cuts through the mix in a live setting is astounding. Would recommend this to any and all drummers, and from now on, I will use nothing else.
i play hardcore/metal and i always wanted to achieve that punchy click sound you hear in recordings,,, i definitely recommend this and if youre going to go all the way, go ahead and buy hard wood beaters. i love these things and i've had it for a few months now, hasn't given me any problems. makes bass sound a lot more distinct.
