After using a set of these cables belonging to one of my guitarist-buddies and being absolutely amazed with their performance, I decided to bite the bullet and buy this set. The packaging was minimal, but the product radiated high quality. The set comes with plenty of cable, 10 right angle plugs, and 10 little black plastic cap thingies that slip over the head of the plug where the cord goes in (Protect it from coming unscrewed). To assemble a patch cable, you simply cut a cable of the desired length, and then push each end into a fitting and screw the cap on. Once the cable has been installed into the plug, it WONT come out easily! I currently am using 5 pedals linked up with this set, and the signal through the whole pedalboard is equivalently nice to that going straight from axe-to-amp. As far as pricing, one must remember that you are getting 5 cables, all of the utmost quality. These things are essential to good tone transmission! Highly recommended.

I own and use the black George L instrument cables and love them. I think it was my loyalty to these that kept me from admitting that these pedal cables are a total rip off! Do yourself a favor and steer clear of these unless you want to have random and uncontrollable crackles and loss of sound while playing live.
I have attempted to use these for around two years. Every month or so I have had to trim the tips of the cables a little more to remove the torn portion that the bolt digs into. I started doing this when the cables would produce a crackle sound. Needless to say this crackle sound greatly diminishes the overall sound quality of the live performance.
This is an expensive way to make you sound horible.

Comments about George L's Vintage Red Effects Cable Kit:

I chose right-angle plugs for & red cables, so they would be easily distinguish from power cables. I bought two sets & used all the plug-ends, yet only one of the cables; exact-length cables are remarkably efficient. I didn't realize how messy my board was: this cut my total signal length by half.

You'll want to give yourself some time to build these. Not because it's hard -- it isn't -- but because you can't know if they work without testing. Yes, yes, it's simple enough: cut cable to length, insert into the plug, screw on the cap to cut into the cable, but it took half-a-dozen times before I got the first one to work. This from someone perfectly capable of resoldering a broken lead, but that won't help here, because there's no soldering.

Eventually I learned to feel the "pop" of a properly seated cable [which the directions neglect to mention, because they're too busy telling you not to press it with your thumb, which you actually must do or it'll never work]. One piece was so frustrating I finally cut a new length [which immediately worked], while others worked great on first try.

I say all this not to gripe [well, maybe a little], but to prepare the potential buyer to expect some trial-and-error in getting a simple cable into a plug to pass a signal. Once done, however, the cables work great, look good, and improve efficiency, so it's well worth the trouble to make them.

I would not hesitate to buy them again, and if possible will buy more plug-ends to use the cable I have left over. OR I suppose I can save it for repairs? The one change I'd wish for would be flatter-profile right-angle plug-ends, like some of my pre-made patch cords. A small issue, but when running a half-dozen pedals side by side, saving a half-inch between each pedal would allow one more pedal on the same board ....

Pain in the butt (George L's Vintage Red Effects Cable Kit)

      By Robert Landry

Comments about George L's Vintage Red Effects Cable Kit:

After investing a lot into my latest pedal board I decided it was time to step up and get a uniform cable system. After some research, I purchased George L cables, What A Mistake!!! I am constantly dealing with bad cable connections. I'll play for a couple hours at my house, pack my board into it's flight case, get to a gig and then spend the next 30min to an hour on the floor playing find the short.
The cable ends are extremely bulky and take up valuable real estate on your pedal board..
Quality is fine as long as you don't mine searhing for shorted cables everytime you set-up....
Ridiculously Priced... For cable that often fail....

      Pricey, but good

Comments about George L's Vintage Red Effects Cable Kit:

I picked these up for a project pedal board I was putting together as a backup to my stage rig. The cables are simple to assemble and get a pretty clear signal. I wish they came in BLACK, but that's just me, because I don't like anything on the ground that might detract attention from the show. Anyway, cool product, clear sound, and truly a better connection than I had with cheaper cables. Folks, don't scrimp and save when it comes to cables, they really do have a lot to do with your tone. Be prepared to spend $$ on your cables, and they will take care of you.

      Serious Tone Impact

      By Winterland

      from Dacono, CO

Comments about George L's Vintage Red Effects Cable Kit:

I bought this cable kit because I had some noise (hiss) in my pedal chain and was expecting/hoping to dim it a little. This kit didn't dim the hiss - it killed it completely. It was like going from VHS to Blue-Ray / over-the-air to HD. These cables have changed my tone to the point where I now have to adjust my pedals' settings to correct settings I had (unkowingly) made previously to overcome the loss of tone from regular patch cables. Here is my pedal chain: EHX Riddle Qballs -> Way Huge Swollen Pickle -> Dunlop Crybaby -> Line 6 POD XT Live -> EHX Stereo Memory Man -> amp front. In other words I am pushing nice, boutique pedals into a multi-effects unit - don't get me wrong though the POD XT Live is an unbelievably high-quality unit as well - (in which I am using an always-on compressor model), then back to a boutique pedal. I thought there was no hope for removing the hiss through all of that without removing pedals. These cables blew my mind as soon as I put them together and connected everything back up... I flipped the by-pass switch on my amp and for a second thought I had screwed up the cables because I didn't hear ANYTHING. Then I strummed my guitar and heard only crystal clear tone - and more of it than I had ever heard before. The little installation card that comes in this kit says something like "hear what your pedals are SUPPOSED to sound like" - and they mean it. You really hear more of your treasured effects than you ever have before - and NOTHING else. If you're here looking, you have a reason. Buy this kit - it will be a revolution in your tone.

      Best Pedal Board cables made

      By Ryan-IYgJb

Comments about George L's Vintage Red Effects Cable Kit:

Two years ago I setup a new pedal board and tried several different patch cable configurations. I was always having to change out cables so I bought a set of the George L's. By far these have the best sound and quality of anything out there. I haven't had to touch them since I put them in two years ago. They are great!

      Wow... great tone!

      By Alex

      from Austin, Texas

Comments about George L's Vintage Red Effects Cable Kit:

When you look at the price you might be tempted to buy the $5 patch cables that Guitar Center sells, but don't be fooled. I just finished making all the cables for my pedal board and at first I was disappointed. After I finished cutting and screwing all the cables I needed, I plugged in my Les Paul to my pedal board and I had no signal. The reason being, that I had cut the cables too short. So if you don't want to waste any cable, make sure to cut them at least 3 inches long, or else the signal will not get by. That is the only thing i didnt like about these cables, but other after I made new longer cables the tone was amazing. There was no hums when I activated my overdrive or distortion pedal. The signal is loud and clear. So don't doubt buying these cables. They are great. I can't say about durability because I just got them, but if I have any problems with them any time soon, I will make sure to post another review to let yall know that they ended up not being so good, but for now, BUY THEM!! they are GREAT!
