I bought these speakers to replace come old speakers I had for my DJ equipment. They are lightweight and have handles for carrying. Good solid construction and a metal grate protect the speakers. There are three connection points to wire the speakers. I put them through a good test with my amp. The sound from an iPod and CD was crystal clear. This is a great buy.

First off let us remember that these speakers are inexpensive. I have two of them. The biggest issue I have with them is poor manufacturing. One had a nasty buzzing sound straight out of the box. I traced it down to primarily coming from the midrange horn. I threw caution (and the warranty) to the wind, pulled off the grille and removed the midrange horn. What I found was a loose screw on the back of the horn that sandwiches the driver between the rear housing and the horn. Tightening the screw was fruitless since it only turned but did not grip anything. Pulling the housing off revealed the stud the screw was supposed to grip was twisted off due to over tightening during manufacturing. My only option was to drill through the horn and install a longer screw. Problem solved. The next thing I found was debris from manufacturing left inside the cabinet. A fairly good sized blob of solder and a couple of blobs of hot glue were floating around inside the cabinet, causing even more unwanted noise. The next thing I discovered was components which make up the crossover were not secured to anything and simply lying loose inside the cabinet, also a probable source for vibration and unwanted noise. While inside the cabinet I was able to get a good look at the cabinet itself. The side panels are made from 3/8" material, which means they will flex and vibrate at higher volume levels. The RMS rating of these speakers are 100w, and I cannot imagine ever driving them with that amount of power. I doubt very seriously if they would last long at 100w continuous. After seeing all this, I decided to check the other cabinet as well. Loose screw on the midrange as well, but the stud was intact and a simple tightening took care of that. Overall the biggest issue with these speakers seems to me to be a severe lack of quality in the manufacturing process.

Basic decent speaker

By John

Comments about Gemini GSM-1260 12" PA Speaker:

Bought a pair to check them out, as I needed a source for inexpensive full-range boxes to use in economy organ and PA projects and can no longer get the bargain PA speakers RadioShack once sold. These looked like they might be similar units at a similar price. At only 24 pounds, you know they aren't built of thick MDF -- just the cheapest 3/8" flakeboard or particle board. But that's good enough as long as you're not looking to put a lot of bass into them or haul them around a lot. So much of the weight is in fact the woofer, which has a substantial magnet structure and generous stamped metal basket. They arrived in good condition, no loose parts rattling around inside. I removed a carrying handle and the input panel so I could look inside with a flashlight. Looks like a typical knock-off "eminence" style woofer and a large plastic mid horn with a piezo driver along with three more little piezo tweeter horns. These are inexpensive drivers, of course, but I've bought and used them all before for custom projects or repair jobs, so I know they sound OK for the money. Nothing fancy about the crossover. Just a resistor (75 ohms, IIRC) between the input terminal and the four paralleled piezo drivers, and nothing at all on the 12" woofer. At least there's nothing quirky in there to waste amp power or introduce reactive loading to the amp. Less is more in this case. With that much resistance ahead of the piezos, I expected a mild upper end and perhaps a mellow tone, but I was wrong. Hooking one up to one channel of a small Allen church organ (a channel carrying no pedal stops), I got a perfectly acceptable sound. This unit is quite a bit "louder" than the very expensive Walker speaker system sitting beside it for A/B testing, and also heavily weighted toward the treble, emphasizing a lot of the punchy, gritty sound of the older digital instrument. You could almost call it "screechy" but I think the treble emphasis can be tamed with tone controls or EQ so that it sounds more normal. In organ installations we normally direct the speakers so that the sound bounces off the ceiling or off the rear wall of a chamber before it gets to people's ears, so having lots of treble is actually a plus for this kind of application. I may update once we actually use these in a permanent setup. My gut feeling is that they are about as good as they need to be for a typical non-critical sound system where loudness is good and where a strong treble is desirable or at least tameable. For no more money than this, I couldn't afford to build a box, cut out all these holes, cover it with carpet and install input terminals and a nice metal grille, even though there may be less than $25 worth of actual drivers inside. So unless we find problems once we do an install with these, we'll be buying more.

Comments about Gemini GSM-1260 12" PA Speaker:

Very lightweight, poor (thin) wood quality. No pole mount top hat, had to install my own, and the wood used is an OSB style with very poor bonding; it cracked away badly where I drilled the hole. Hope it holds up. Horn combination is good, 12" seems a bit rattly at performance (DJ) volume levels. Inexpensive, so I can't complain too much.

    Great for speach

    By John Soares

    from Yonkers, New York

Comments about Gemini GSM-1260 12" PA Speaker:

I was looking for an inexpensive 12" to replace on I had for several years for my Midi, Guitar, and voice. I found that speaking was find for the GSM1260 but it lacked on the bottome end. My other speaker has a great bottom end even through it is rated 55hz to 19Khz that the GSX1260 could not meet without an equalizer pushing up the bottom by 6db. HOWEVER, if you are looking for something for Speach or singing, or light music as a back yard party, this will do the job well. Live Sound -- Low end guitar, keyboard bass, midi bass and base drum do not sound real as does my higher line PA speakers.

    Confused!

    By Jessica

Comments about Gemini GSM-1260 12" PA Speaker:

I recently purchased these speakers and upon doing so I looked under accessories you will need for this item. It clearly states that you will need speaker stands. So what do I do.. I purchase speaker stands. When my order arrived I was disappointed to find that there is no place to mount the speaker! False advertisement or just lack of reliable information? The speakers themselves are great speakers just very disappointed about the other!

    Great! ...until they blow out.

    By Jordan

Comments about Gemini GSM-1260 12" PA Speaker:

I got a pair of these used in 5 star condition (basically new), and I had them running off of a 500 watt powered mixer, so they both got 250 watts. These things are LOUD!!!! I've used them for blaring music and also for in my band. 2 of these at 250 watts each is plently loud for a medium sized venue, and the clarity is amazing. I actually used them for my Marshall Valvestate head, and just one of them alone was louder and sounded better than the cab I had for it! The cab was loaded with Celestions even, and the GSM1260's got more clarity and delivered more gain then the cab! I've had these for 5 months and they sure did their job wonderfully, although just this week they blew out on me. Thankfully, I got pro coverage with them, so I got a full refund, even after I worked them to death for a few months. All in all, I would HIGHLY reccomend getting these ONLY if you get pro coverage with them. It would be a REALLY risky moving getting them without, but with pro coverage, this is a REALLY good deal. The only cons I could find for them were that you can't mount them to speaker stands, and the bass on these could be better.
