Its single rackspace design ensures discreet integration into your rack setup, making this handy recording device ideal for DJs, musicians, bars, clubs, schools, houses of worship and anywhere else high-quality audio recording is a must. The DRP-1 is also great for front-of-house applications, even as a backup recorder for the most sophisticated FOH setups.

I own several recorders and have for decades..this unit intrigued me being rack mount. It operates well, as expected with a couple of out of the box curious oddity's. It records just fine to an SD card or a USB memory stick, no issue. You can select 3x MP3 modes and 1 wav mode. The rotary wheel selects files and adjusts recording volume..so far so good. reading some reviews I noticed some folks talking about erratic record volume levels then returned the unit..TRUE..but the reason why is the unit has AGC and it needs to be turned off, there is no mention of AGC in the manual. In record standby, hold the stop button, AGC ( seen on screen) will turn off. Same with a Noise Gate, turn unit off, pull the mem card., turn on, hold the record button to turn NG off. You cannot delete files directly, no big deal...if you are USB connected to a PC you have to turn the unit off then on and the unit will connect to the PC..delete files thru the PC..or just take the mem card out and plug it into the pc...no big deal. Overall, pleased, keep the record level at the 3rd bar or so and you will have clean recordings with proper volume.Stay out of the black and saturation levels like any digital recorder .For the price this is an excellent unit..if it lasts !

This is the least expensive rackmount audio recorder available. I use these units frequently for speech recording in various lecture halls and classrooms. It records at .WAV or a handful of useful MP3 data rates to SD card, and I've been told you can also record to a USB flash drive. The unit accepts unbalanced stereo -10dB (RCA jacks) and mic level (XLR) and mono mic/stereo -10dB (¼" phone jacks). It's a decent recorder for capturing audio from the mixing console. The only negative features are that it does not accept +4dB line level at the XLR jack, the time-elapsed indicator doesn't indicate seconds after an hour of recording, and the LCD-based VU meter only indicates higher levels. Fortunately, the headphone jack and serves for confidence when the VU meter is not active. I recommend this unit for basic recording, such as house of worship, classroom, lecture halls or MP3 playback.

Wrong DC adapter

By BD

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rack Mount Digital Recorder:

Same problem as MackieMaster except I do not have a 5 volt dc adapter. It's Christmas day, and the unit is totally inoperative. The screen was on for a second and said "Loading". It went dead and that was it.

      The revolution in CD recorders

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rack Mount Digital Recorder:

I have just begun using this recorder and wish that I had got this a long time ago. I found it very easy to use and have been able to download original songs from A-Dat recorders onto CDs. The Digital recorder is a great buy, within budget, and very versatile for recording live and from external devices.

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rack Mount Digital Recorder:

I needed a digital recorder without a need of a PC. I have a nice ZOOM hand held, but most of the field recorder types are battery operated and it could die suddenly in the middle of one shot recording.
Hidden function of DPR-1 not described in the manual are; Playback, one track (song) only, all tracks progressively repeat one track or all tracks. You need to press pause button more than 1 second. In recording (standby) mode if you press the stop button long, an AGC (auto gain control, I guess) kicks in, and the jog wheel is disabled. However, if you use AGC, the gain pumps (in attack and release), resulting in uncomfortable loud and soft wave happens. The recording level meter is not really a fine scale as higher grade recorders, hence peak adjustment is not easy, like a 4-segment LED indicator. Also I noticed the jog wheel position always resets to 50% each time you turn on the power. It does not remember the previous session. The head room (clipping marine) for monitoring headphone amp does not match the recording clipping point, hence you do not notice clipping on the headphone in recording. Input level and out put level sound volume do not match (louder in recording, but softer in playback of the same song.)

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rack Mount Digital Recorder:

This unit does what it's supposed to do. It records to a file and the file is clean and sounds good. The problem is the meter. We use it to record events and sometimes it's loud sometimes it's quiet. The meter on the front is not accurate enough to tell if it's clipping or not and it's really just trial and error.

I purchased this for my church to record services. The instruction manual was very vague and frankly the unit didn't work like it was supposed to. I sent it back and purchased the Dennon Professional DN 500R. The Dennon unit cost twice the money but is certainly the better investment. The documentation, functionality, and ease of use will be appreciated by my sound techs. The Gemini unit made three of my best sound techs angry because it wasn't user friendly. You get what you pay for.

We purchased another item before this that while less money, it was very complexe. We exchanged it for this one and what a difference. I don't know how well it will work for a band, but for recording our church service it is great. With different people in the sound booth, it is very easy to operate. Just put in your zip drive, push record, and then push record when you are read to start. you can pause or save when you push stop. that was it.
