  • Workhorse!

As reviewed by Rob Ivey on 2/19/2011

I acquired this unit just about a year ago. I previously bought a different console but it was garbage and my product protection paid off. Let's see- 1. Quality- The cdmp-6000 is well built, and very sturdy. I has all metal casing, and the buttons are rubber(except for Play and Cue-they are metal), and all faders and nobs are all plastic over metal. The cdmp-6000 comes ready to be mounted on a rack, but the flanges can be take off for table top use, if need be. The paint is of decent quality. I have beat my unit for a year now, and there are only a few "slide" marks in the paint on the fader I use most. The Play and Cue buttons leave something to be desired. They are a little "wobbly". Although, they are tolerable. 2. Features- I never received an owner's manual with mine, turns out I didn't need it. I actually downloaded the .PDF three months ago. It didnt tell me anything I hadn't figured out. The USB feature is easy to use. Just plug in a thumb-drive, and scroll through your folders and files with the rotarty knob. Press it down to make a selection. I mainly use cd's, so I bought a USB light at the dollar store, and use that in dark clubs. The Mixer functions nicely, but the crossfader isnt very sensitive. It doesnt "fade" as smoothly and linear as I would like. Lucky for me, I use my channel faders mostly, so no big deal. The manual BPM counter works fine as well, but I don't often use it. As for the Loop feature, I have never used it. Just not my thing. The jog wheels work great for beatmatching, but the resolution is nowhere near that of a Pioneer CDJ. You cant be scared to spin them around a time or two... The wheels also wobble a bit. Not while scratching or jogging(This does NOT affect use), they just arent as "tight" as they could be. The scratch function, well, is ok. I dont use it for any serious scratching, maybe a cut here and there. 3. Overall(random)- For the price, you can't beat it. It's a workhorse. It is basic, but it gets the job done. I would love more features, like effects, and bigger jog wheels, but overall its a good piece of kit. It has 2 line/phone hookups, 2 XLR(balanced) outputs, and has a booth output, which is great and I use it for recording to my PC at home. There is a crossfader slope on the front as well. If you are looking for an inexpensive unit to use at home, for backup equipment, or are a beginner, this product is great! It is also very reliable so it can be used professionally, it just lacks a few features that I prefer.

  • fail gear

As reviewed by Rob Babylon on 8/8/2011

This gear works very poorly. If your lucky it will work for about 50 min before freezing up. Do not bring to an important gig it will mess with your head for a year after it either does not work at all or freezes up. Even if you play really cautiously and methodically it will fail you both on the cd and the usb.
