not that bad

By nedgina

Comments about Gem Sound XPS 300 Power Amplifier:

Obviously not a high-end amp, but it does what the advertisements claim and I think it should be quite durable because of the ample cooling and the old-school (tried and true) circuitry.
features are standard for a low-power amplifier
Sound quality is actually quite good, yes the cooling fan is loud, but I figure it's loud because it's moving a lot of cooling air which is not such a bad thing. The unit is heavy, but that's because the outputs come out of a transformer instead of directly out of the output stage of the amp, this should help to protect the components of the output stage, meaning more reliability.
based on output per dollar spent, not a bad deal

Worst purchase of PA stuff I Even made

By r12470

from Central Texas

Comments about Gem Sound XPS 300 Power Amplifier:

It's sits in a box in the Garage, Still 'works' but I won't use it. Noise, Cross talk, Prone to Feed back. Waste of Money, But I have learned my lesson. Stay as far away from this Brand as far possible their Stuff is very, very low end product. I threw money buying this!
Basic Power Amp. Two Channels
Cooling Fans sound like a Jet airplane taking off, Controls are cheap and Sloppy. LED level indicators never worked.
Looks good on Paper, But it's Noisy, heavy and ugly. Cross talk / bleed over within the amp makes it un-useable as a 2 channel set up

Save your Money

By r12470

Comments about Gem Sound XPS 300 Power Amplifier:

Being rather tight with money I purchased one of these about one year ago from another supplier.
It's rather large and heavy, Using an old style power transformer. It is very poorly made, the Controls are small and sloppy. The LED's don't work properly, But the biggest issue is the Fan Noise and the Feedback between the Channels. It's difficult to run two Signals Cleanly through it. Too much Cross talk. When using in a live sound application with open Mic's the thing will go into feed back at the touch of a feather.

great amp for monitors! I use this amp with some 10" monitors, and it works great! No need to spend more money, unless you need more power

Love it

Comments about Gem Sound XPS 300 Power Amplifier:

Got this for my two yamaha 50watt 8 ohm speakers. my setups an ibanex hardtail thru an me70 trhu a rackmount 31 band nady eq into the GEM SOUND then into the speakers. the ONLY bummer is you have to use Speakon cables from the gem sound to the speakers. the cables are 50 for two 10 foot cables not to bad but its nescesary. and awesome. this thing has a little LED that dims and gets brighter the more POWER its shovin out. and theres a clip led... this thing clips just a BIT. its nice though. only clips at distortion on FULLLLLLLLL. but its a crisp clear high and gives enough power to rattle your pants off. Love it. also, gets there pretty quick.. pretty dang fast.

not bad for the price but super loud fan

By robry

from PA

Comments about Gem Sound XPS 300 Power Amplifier:

the fan in this thing is ungodly loud for an amp with a rating of 50w RMS x 2 @ 8ohm. My only problem with the amp is the fact that the fan is ridiculously loud. Bought this amp for a custom video conferencing room setup with in-ceiling speakers. It has no problem preforming audio duties, just don't use it when you need a quiet environment. I'm going to swap out the fan for something much quieter.
