  • Who is Gem Sound?

As reviewed by Bill Wichert on 3/8/2014

It seems loud enough but I have not had a chance to fully test this speaker. I've only used the mp3 player. So my review is more about the manufacturer. I bought this speaker upon recommendation of the Guitar Center online rep, and a ridiculous sale price. The speaker seems decent, but my faith in the company that made it is shaky. Pro's: It's very lightweight, has handles on top and two sides, and wheels on the bottom. It has ports for a USB flash drive and SD card. If you insert a flash drive, you can use it as an MP3 player with the remote control. Con's: You cannot get playback from a phone or laptop via the USB port as indicated. You'll have to use an 1/8" - RCA (red/white plugs) cable, or just plug your device in to your mixing board. Other: Apparently this product is so new, it's not even listed on Gem Sound's website. The "instruction" leaflet that came with the speaker left much to be desired, so I tried unsuccessfully to find more info on their website. The diagram on the back was illegible and there was no Company info on the leaflet either, such as address, phone#, website, email etc. Nor was there any warranty info or a product registration card..but it's difficult to register a product with NO SERIAL NUMBER. Gem Sound's website says they are owned by Visual Effects Industries..which is inaccurate. It's actually Visual Effects, Inc. Visualeffectsinc.com They make lasers, disco balls, fog/bubble machines, speaker stands...Dj/party stuff. I contacted them via Facebook, but never got a reply. They've been in business since 1979? What have they been doing?

  • Good I guess.

As reviewed by MARK JOLLEY on 5/14/2013

I'm not an expert on these things, but they seems to do the job. They are not super loud. I mainly go them to use as a base amp with my POD HD500 pedal. Base is better than my amps for sure. I use them in a small basement and I can crank them all the way without killing my ears. Oddly enough there is almost no feedback. I use a Fender Acoustasonic 150 and the feedback is MUCH worse even with feedback control on. The sound is good, not great. For a PA I would definitely get 2. I would have to compare these to the Harbinger 15" with 3 channels if I had paid full price. I got these on a deep discount sale.

  • Who is Gem Sound?

As reviewed by Bill Wichert on 4/23/2014

I have not had a chance to fully test this product yet. I bought it on the recommendation of a Guitar Center online rep...and a ridiculous sale price. I plugged a microphone directly and it sounded pretty clear. I will say regarding their editorial statement: "It is equipped with USB connectivity, which facilitates playback from digital devices."... not entirely true. With the remote..it functions as an MP3 player if you insert a flash drive. But you will not get playback from your laptop, phone, etc.. by using the USB connection. You have to use the headphone jack from said device and plug in to the RCA (red/white) line-in connection - OR - just plug your device into your mixing board. Regarding Gem Sound.. The diagram on the back of the instruction sheet is illegible...can't read the numbers. A full product brochure would be helpful, if not a more comprehensive instruction booklet. It doesn't even list the full company name, address, phone, email, website, Facebook, etc. Offering product registration and warranties would also be reassuring. There's not even a serial number on the unit itself. The Gem Sound website is a joke. This product is not even listed. The contact page gives an actual address c/o Visual Effects Industries. I googled them and found nothing. It's actually Visualeffectsinc.com ... they make DJ/party lights, fog/bubble machines, strobes/lasers, speaker stands...
