  • Great deal

As reviewed by Robert Germeroth on 4/18/2014

Before buying these, I read a few reviews that give mixed assessments: some said they were a great deal, but others said they didn't work. I decided to take a chance since they were so cheap. A pair came in the mail, I tested them out, and they didn't work. The sound would come in and out of both ears depending on how you moved the plug. I exchanged them the same day, got the next pair, and thought the same thing was happening. However, I decided to wait it out and the problem went away pretty quickly. It was almost as if the plug just had to get used to being used. I've had them for a few weeks now and haven't had any issues. I'm actually wondering whether the first pair was fine and I just didn't wait it out long enough. Either way, for $13 these are totally worth it. I am no headphone expert so I can't really speak too much to their quality, but they seem to do a good job projecting what I want to hear.

  • A Good Buy

As reviewed by Lynne Osgood on 4/18/2014

I recently needed some decent reference monitors for tracking and I bought these Gear One G900DX's at an almost to good to be true price from GC. For the money they were a good solid deal, so much so that I just placed another order to bring my total purchase of these headphones to ten. What I've previously been using are AKG K240, or AKG Golds as we always referred to them. They have a good solid comfortable fit, and a decent representation of what's being recorded. They were the go to workhorse of my studio. My new Gear One's are in the same league as the AKG Gold's, good solid overall audio range, and apparent solid construction so that conceivably they'll last as long as the Golds. That's the one unknown. The Golds have lasted 15 plus years. I'd not buy these if you're looking for high quality monitoring or serious auditioning, sound tweaking and mixing headphones, (maybe an oxymoron, you know mixing on headphones), as the mids and upper mids are lacking in imaging with these Gear Ones. For more serious listening I'd move up to either AKG 240DF's (apparently hard to find anymore,) or what I most recently purchased, some surprisingly moderately priced Sony's Model: MDR-7506. But If you're looking something to track with, I don't think you can go wrong with these GEAR ONE's.

  • my new favorite headphones

As reviewed by Steven Herr on 4/26/2014

I bought these thinking that paying $13 for $200 headphones must be some kind of glitch. Whether it was or wasn't, these headphones by far exceeded my expectations. They sound absolutely terrible out of the box, but have a relatively short burn in period. Once burned in, these headphones sound better than my ATH m40's. I already put in another order. Mix, master, do whatever you want on these cans, they'll surprise you with their even freq response and clarity. The 400 mA doesn't apply, you can plug these in to a 2000+ mA headphones amp and they can take it, all while maintaining clarity. Only problem was the scratchiness of the plug, but that's just a film on the jack, just use soap and water, or it will wear off eventually. All in all, THE best deal on GC.
