I needed a case to fly with my Cordoba C5 classical guitar. I compared this case side-by-side with the SKB TSA case (which is the same price) and I preferred the Gator.
Pros:
- The polyethylene exterior seems very strong. It is thick and somewhat flexible, which is good. ABS cases (like the SKB) seem thin and brittle by comparison.
- It fit my Cordoba C5's body very well.
- The interior is slightly softer than the SKB's (but still much too stiff in my opinion). Classical guitar's are very light so they don't need stiff interior support -- they need soft cushioning.
Cons:
- The latches don't operate easily.
- It is somewhat heavier than the SKB because the shell is thicker.
- The space for the headstock is not deep enough to fit the downward-pointing tuners of a classical guitar. This is not a big deal, but it means that the weight of the guitar falls on the tuners, not the neck support.
- Like the SKB, the hinges look weak.
Overall, I'm happy with the Gator polyethylene case. The hard shell really looks like it will take a beating.
