I just got this MB212ULTRALIGHT. i had been very intrigued by the press releases about this line of GK bass amps. 500watts/2 12s/ 38lbs/ too good to be true? i don't think so. this thing is really powerful and punchy. it says to put the master at 3 o clock, i set mine at about 9 o clock and my gain about the same, and that is with an american jazz bass! some reviewers of the 2 10 model said they honked out. not this model. it has headroom to spare and then some. i guarantee you it is louder than my SVT. that being said, this is a great sounding combo. very punchy and growly and easy to tune your tone in. i am very excited about the prospect of carrying one unit that weighs 38lbs to gigs. not only that, it sounds great. i always liked the sound of 2 12s and wondered why they had fallen out of favor for a while. i believe this rig will be able to cover 90% of my gigs, and that is a great relief to my old back. plus i love the tone....GK does have a great sound.

you know, when you read reviews about the product blowing up or arriving broken, you never think it can happen to you... WRONG. this showed up on tuesday afternoon and has a serious problem with one of the drivers. so far, Guitar Center is saying that it must be a manufacturers defect, so basically i am screwed. Apparently they do not stand behind the products that they sell (Guitar Center will not even pay my shipping to return the bum product they sold me). i am forced to try and work with GK at this point. the main problem is that i need the amp now (i paid for next day delivery) and at best i am looking at several weeks before i actually get a working amp. the reason i am giving this amp 2 stars instead of 1, is for the 90 seconds that i was able to play the amp before it broke, because the tone was heavenly. too bad Guitar Center is bending me over and GK moves at a turtle's pace.

Disappointing

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

After reading the reviews I desided to go ahead and order one up. It only took 4 days to come in which was awsome, after staring at it for about 20mins I desided to plug it in and strike 1 it was blown, so within an hour I was back to GC returning and ordering another one in hopes it was just a lemon. After another 4 days number 2 was in, this time I tested it in store, and strike 2 this time it wasn't blown but any low freq it sounded like it was going to fall apart it was rattling so bad. So now Im waiting for a neo 212 instead.

oh yeah it rocks!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I owned the MB115 for a year and loved it but needed more power because i'm playing bigger places so I upgraded to MB212. This amp is perfect to play any size gig it also stands up to my guitarists half-stack no problem. The tone is amazing and it really pumps. I live on the second floor and always bring my gear home even from practice so the lightweight of this is a major plus for me. The sound guy was majorly impressed with this amp at the gig I played last night. Only thing I can say I don't like is the fan is noticeable in a quiet setting but the mic never picked it up in the p.a. so it really isn't anything to worry about.

Love it!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This isn't my first rodeo. I have 2 other Gallien Krueger Head Units, but never their Combo Amp. I first ordered the GK MB115 200 Watt 15 Combo to replace my blown Ampeg 115 for practice, but it didn't compete with the drummer in the band, so I returned it for this one, and GK got this one right! It's a bit pricey, but considering most of the amps in this watt range, it's competitive. Plus this weighs half of what my Ampeg 115 weighed! I honestly feel this would replace the need for a full stack on stage in a small to medium gig situation, with the XLR Output, you can plug it into the PA for the Large Giggs. I know that with my volumn and gain set to half, I am louder than our heavy hitting drummer, and twin guitars. The clearity of the horn feature, and the voice feature give it a nice, different sound. The limiter switch I'm hoping will stop it from blowing, but I haven't had to push it that far so far. All In All, I love the amp, and with a discount weekend like GC always offers, I would buy it in a heart beat!

Stage abuse & Child abuse

By Randy Dowdy

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I have owned this for almost a year now. Greatest sounding light weight amp I have ever played. I am a music teacher and I bought this unit based on its size and weight as well as the sound. The bass tones that it produces are phenomenal! You can really hear the low B on a 5 string with the same depth and volume as the 4 string. I take this amp back and forth to the school and home several times a week and being so light I can easily carry it myself which makes the kids happy cuz they could barely lift our single 12" Ampeg and it would take 2 kids to lift and load that unit. (elementary through high school and yes, stage setup, tear down and safe transportation of equipment is all covered in my lesson plan hehe) This amp gets daily use and abuse from kids sitting on it, banging it with other equipment, Cranking up the Pre at low master volume, constant twisting the knobs around cuz I encourage them to experiment with amp/bass settings, and what ever mischief that goes on behind teachers back. lol. Even with a heavy drummer this amp easily cuts through with the volumes set around 7. My students perform at school events as well as community events almost weekly. On top of all that I gig and rehearse with my blues/rock cover band, punk band, shred metal band, and jazz combo several times a week with this amp and I love it! I have been leaving my large GK800RB rack and cab (I have used and toured with for the last 16 years) at home and taking this everywhere I go. Extremely durable and highly, highly recommended.

Hard to believe the sound (and light weight)!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I have played over 160 gigs with this amp, and it's been a joy. While it has good mid and high capability, deep, thunderous bottom is what I need and demand. This amp shakes most venue rooms at 1/3 volume with a smooth deltic tone. Was so impressed with the G&K MB series that I also bought an MB112 for smaller venues, and it too gives me everything I ask of it. Both look great and are soooo light. I recommend the MB212 to any bass player at any level of skill.

Love this amp

By Dan Robertson

from Riverside, CA

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I got tired of dragging around my heavy 200W, 1x15 Acoustic combo amp. I wanted something with more power and the GK caught my eye. I tried out every combo amp in the store and nothing close for the money. I ordered this from Guitar Center and had it shipped to the store--took about a week. I love this amp and the light weight is unreal. All that power pumps out of 39 lbs. How do they do it? Outstanding tone, power and the EQ will give you what you want. Love the "contour" button but only good for moderate volumes. Once you need to crank it up, use the EQ to tune your sound the way you want it. I have owned this combo amp for about 3 weeks and I get the grins every time I play it. I let another bass player use it after our band's slot and the look on his face was priceless. I swear, he bent down and kissed the cab! Get this combo unit, you will not be disappointed.

Poor Quality Control

By Johann Dieken

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I received this amp about 10 days ago with high expectations. It is very light and easy to move. I really loved that. You can really dial in the tones with this amp. I couldn't quite get that classic rock tone but all in all much better than the Ashdown amp that I sold. Within 30 minutes of playing through this amp, I realized I had to return it. Even at modest volumes, the top speaker rattled something fierce. QC sure didn't put this amp through its paces before shipping. I returned this amp the following day. GC was great about returning the amp. I'm without an amp now, so I guess it's back to the music store to evaluate other rigs.

Fantastic

By Jim Brown

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I play in a classic rock power trio in small to medium size clubs. I've been using either a 500 watt Trace Eliot 1 15 combo or a 400 watt Traynor 1 15 combo. I used the GK MB 212 last night for the first time and it was fantastic. I used my 77 4001 Rickenbacker, so the test was how much bottom would the GK provide. It passed with flying colors. The volume and tone were superb, and it easily had the power to do the job. It performed as good OR BETTER than the Trace and Traynor, and the light weight is great on my back. THe GK will become my go to amp. Highly recommended.

Great Sound

By George

from Austin, TX

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB212 2x12 500W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I now have 130 lbs less to move around, load, unload, setup etc. I am an old guy, and that means a lot to me. I still get a great bass sound from the MB 212 Combo Amp, at least as good as the heavy equipment I have been using. Unless you are in a heavy metal rock band and play outdoor concerts, this should fill your every need. I play with a 14 piece dance band, a smaller 7 piece group and a community band, and this more than meets my needs. A great sound in a 37 lb amp!
