Overview

The Gallien-Krueger MB115 200W 1x15 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp is an addition to GK' legendary MicroBass Series. It delivers a big sound from a light, compact package. At 200W the MB115 has the power to be heard in any situation. It's designed with preamp tone-shaping circuitry that feeds into a lightweight Class-D power amp. The preamp uses GK's 4-band active tone control section with a Contour preset feature. There are both Passive and Active bass inputs and a defeatable Limiter for controlling your sound. The 15" Paragon speaker is extremely sensitive and makes this amp surprisingly loud. The horn tweeter can be engaged or not to suit different playing environments or to further shape your sound. An 1/8" Aux. input and headphone jack allow for silent practice along with an MP3 player or other sound source. An XLR DI output is included for recording or live sound reinforcement.

Equalization
Standard tone controls and graphic equalizers give you plenty of variation, but they don™t provide what the instrument really needs. The fact is, graphic equalizers are intended for room equalization. The equalization in Gallien-Krueger amplifiers reflects 40 years of continuous development and refinement.

The GK equalizer is unique to the industry, it' not just a normal four band equalizer, each section is a special circuit optimized to perform a Bass specific job in its range of operation.

These sections are wired in series, adding to one another, to create a tremendously flexible equalizer that sounds natural at any setting. Now it is possible to obtain the sound you desire.

Contour
The Contour is used to complely revoice the amplifier by tuning between two different shaping circuits, with greatly different responses. With the control engaged, the low end is slightly boosted, the mids are dropped and the high end is pushed up.

Limiter
The limiter is designed to detect signal levels at the input of the power amp that cause unwanted distortion. It attenuates extreme peaks to allow high volume output while maintaining signal integrity.

œG.I.V.E. Technology
The MB210, MB115 and MB212 pre-amps incorporate G.I.V.E (Gate Induced Valve Effect) Technology. Field effect devices are used with the gate biased in a way that emphasizes the optimum harmonic content of the signal. Working in conjunction with the unique four band active equalizer and contour, G.I.V.E. technology produces a consistently pleasing bass tone.

I use the old silver/black MB115 version, but this is essentially the same amplifier. I use mine for marching band, and we do a lot of traveling (at least six competitions per year, one being about a 90-mile trip to Huntington. WV). Three years and roughly 20 competitions since I got it, and it's still in perfectly solid condition. The only damage is scratching on the outer lining. And not to mention, in indoor practice and Jazz band (which it has traveled with even more), I can overpower the entire band with this thing, and at high volumes, it still sounds great. The four-band EQ is a nice feature, allowing you to dial in your ideal tone for any bass (I run a Fender MiM Jazz and a Squier J/P hybrid through it mostly). Never used the contour, but I'm sure it's a neat thing. And the best part is that it's not a backbreaker to carry, only about 35lbs.

I purchased the last edition of this amp about 11 months ago (the one with the plastic silver grate). At first i though it would be a great cheap amp that i can play gigs with..... NOPE. At 12o'clock volume and gain the amp vibrates the knobs so much that the knobs for the highs and mids will start turning, which ruins my eq. Today the horn completely broke after i have only played the amp about 20~ times for about an hour each time. Go spend an extra 100 dollars on a real amp or something vintage.

Buy It!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115-II 200W 1X15 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Needed a more powerful bass amp for my band. We have 2 guitars, full drum set, and bass. This lil 35 lbs gets the job done! It's EXTREMELY light, but has impeccable tone and enough power for even mid sized clubs. The XLR out gives you option to run into board for the larger venues. The tone of this amp will blow you away, and being so light, it's easy on the back when you're schlepin' gear around. The entire band, not just me the bass player, is in love with this amp. Our drummer couldn't be happier with it.

Great combo.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115-II 200W 1X15 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I've had this combo for a few weeks now. I'm still exploring tones. These Neo combos have a break in period of a few hours turns out so while you're trying to find your tone, it's changing at the same time! After it settled. I took it on a gig and it was very muddy at first. That left me scratching my head. When I backed the low mid knob from 1\2 to 1\4 that cleared things up dramatically. I don't use the contour or the limiter buttons. If I use the horn, I run the treble at 1\4 up. If not I run the treble just over half. High mid at 3\4 up always. This thing is LOUD! Thunderous lows with the low knob just over half! I play in a 5 piece band. We're not playing heavy rock or metal so it's fine for me. I did a solo the other night with the it and it was so clear from low to high I didn't have to fight to get the notes out. I was amazed. Plus it's so light!.I sold a Rumble 350 to get this combo. The 350 was ok but notes on the G string would disappear. All I'd like to see on this is a tuner out and a mute button like on my GK1001RB II. Still a great combo.

Different

By Cameron Simpson

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115-II 200W 1X15 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I played this at a local GC, I have the silver/black version. This new model is different not only cosmetically but the sound. I played it with the same EQ settings as my own and it had a lot bigger, bassier sound to it. I like it, but Id put the treble up more to make it stick out more in the mix. I play an American P Bass, and there was a noticeable difference in sound with this amp compared to my own. I used the same bass at GC so the sound would be comparable. I like it, I'm buying the 210 version! I think a lot of the different sound comes from the G.I.V.E. technology, because as far as I know the silver/black 115 does not have this technology in it and sounds more solid state then this new amp. I recommend it, Gallien Krueger does great things :)

Great amp for a casual player like me

By Daniel Najimian

from Orrville, OH

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115-II 200W 1X15 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I have been borrowing my daughter's Fender P-bass bass to play on an occasional basis at our church, and finally decided to get a rig of my own. My wife got a Fender MIM J-bass at GC as an anniversary present, and had me pick out an amp to go with it. After trying a few out (and returning them) I ended up with the GK MB115-II. This was the best combination of power: 200 W and size/weight: 35 lb. Prior to getting this, I had bought a Fender Rumble 150, which was a decent amp, but at 55 lb was more weight than I really wanted to lug around. The salesman at GC had strongly recommended the GK, so when I returned the Fender to get the GK instead, I told the guys there, "I wish I'd listened to Ben in the first place!" BTW, the guys at GC in Fairlawn, OH are top-notch: always courteous and helpful ... I'm sure they'll be getting more business from me.

It's Just What I Was Looking For

By ANDY ATTAWAY

from Georgetown, TX

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115-II 200W 1X15 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

All I had was a small practice amp, and I knew that I really needed more power in order to get everything out of my Ibanez SR300. I played a lot of amps, Peavey, TC Electronic, Ampeg, Fender, etc., but I kept coming back to the MB115 II Ultralight. It produced the sound I was looking for in my bass. I didn't think I could really afford it, but I was able to find a used one in pristine shape from GC. Before I left the store with it I played on it for a while. It's just what I was looking for!

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY

By HENRY LINGENFELDER

from Baltimore, MD

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115-II 200W 1X15 Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I bought the older version of this, so take this with a grain of salt. However, there does seem to be a thread of folks complaining about quality. I bought the amp, took it to a friend's house, (he lives 50 miles from civilization), and the thing wouldn't work. AT ALL. Took it back, figuring I got a lemon, and got a replacement. Well, after 1 1/2 years the larger speaker blew. Keep in mind that the warranty is 2 years for electronics, 1 year for speakers- the salesperson at GC just said 2 year warranty, not being clear about the fine print. This was a practice amp- I never had it above 4. And the speaker blew. Save your money until you can get something more substantial- Acoustic, Hartke, Ampeg, Aguilar, Fender and Orange all make quality stuff that will last. I've had my Hartke for 20 years with no problems whatsoever.
