Wow, this thing is so light! It weighs less than most companies 50W amps. It has a nice full sound due to the 15" speaker. The controls are simple, but effective. The push buttons on the Contour, Limiter and Horn On/Off are a great idea. It's not as flexible as a 100RB, but I think they were going for a more simplified "Practice Amp" motif. The AUX in is a great idea as is the headphone jack. I tried a few active and passive basses through it just to see what kind of tones I could get. I was able to get high quality sounds out of each bass I tried. For only 200W it is very loud and blows away other more expensive amps that I won't name that, supposedly, have more power. It actually kind of shocked me A/B'ing a few amps. GK must have a louder watt measurement than brand X, Y and Z. Bravo to GK for using real poplar plywood for the box instead of the cheaper and heavier particleboard. Only one beef, the grill rattled a little bit, but it just needed about half a turn on a screwdriver to fix it. No biggie. If I ever get in the market for a new combo amp, it will be this guy for sure.

I've waited a while to do this review- I don't like knee-jerk reaction reviews. I bought one of these several months ago to take on a gig 220 miles away in the middle of nowhere. It sounded great in the store, but when I got to the gig, IT DID NOT WORK AT ALL! Needless to say, I was not pleased. I called my salesperson at GC, (who I love, by the way- she's a real sweetheart!), but I had to read her to riot act. Thankfully, I was able to go through my sansamp into the board, so the show went on, but I gnashed my teeth all the way through. Once I got back home, she was able to get me a replacement on the spot, although I was hesitant to get another. Like other reviewers, I bought it for its weighing next to nothing. I like the fact that it moves a lot of air, and the basses I play, (Rick 4001, Marcus Miller, Telecaster bass) all sound great. On the down side, I've only had it for a few months, and the tolex(?) has started to come away from the unprotected corners. Bad glue, perhaps? Since that gig experience, I've only played it in my studio, not wanting to chance another occurance, so it hasn't been abused. I have an Acoustic B200 head with a Neo 2-10 cab and 15 cab, and it blows this away. I thought the GK's light weight would be a good idea for gigging. It is, but...

Excellent Bass Amp

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I played a lot of amps before buying the MB 115. Thereۡs nothing on the market that compares to this amp for sound. It is unlike any other. I traded in a bahringer 180 watt amp that was total trash. No lows and a lot of distortion in the sound. GK makes the best amp on the market. I canۡt say enough about them. If you are looking for clarity, deep lows and a all round quality sound, GK is what youۡre looking for.

Very impressed

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I walked into Guitar Center with every intention of buying an Acoustic B200 combo, until I played through this one. No comparison. This amp has much better bass, louder and cleaner than the Acoustic, at about 1/3 the weight. Since it cost only $50 more, it was a no-brainer. If it turns out to be reliable, this is the best deal out there for small combo amps.

Simply amazing

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This amp is like a corvette. In that the Corvette is light and very powerful. It sticks 400hp to the road and this amp sticks 200w to the crowd. Simply amazing this amps ability to launch juicy tones down range and thump. The push buttons are AWESOME as is the what? 18 lbs? I love the simplicity! I went to GC today just to kill time. Found this baby sitting in the corner like a recluse and pulled it out. Now im selling my ampeg for this. Bravo to GK

Excellent Amp

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I especially like the active and passive inputs, horn on/off options, and the active equilization. Depending on the need,I play a Fender Jazz (passive)or a MusicMan (active)bass and this amp enhances the sound quality of both systems. My Electric Double Bass sounds great through this amp due to the versatility in the EQ system. I reviewed several amps (Peavy, Fender, etc)and chose the GKMB115. I've been playing Bass for 30+ years, and this is a great amp.

Update on last review

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I'm adding on to the last review now that I've had the chance to put it through the torture test. This thing still amazes me. I was up against a guitarist with a 100 watt Marshall half-stack, and it held it's own. After a whole night at full volume, it wasn't even warm to the touch. This amp moves a lot of air, too, when you stand in front of it. It surprises me how full-sounding it is, even at full volume. The bass is remarkable for a small combo.

So Sweeet!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I have used or tested every brand on the market. Finally Gallien Krueger now has the best available combo bass amp - hands down. This amp is so light weight it puts a smile on your face. But the real news here is the excellent controls and tone. Very deep and beefy or, if you prefer, it gets crystaline clear highs. Absolutely terrific. And a great value too.

By far the best amp in its price range

By Brandon B

from Sterling Heights, Michigan

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This thing is absolutely fantastic! Ive used a 150 watt peavy combo amp, and an 8x10 ampeg cab, with a randall head, and to be honest, i would pick this amp over both of those any day.The control that you have over your tone is awesome, with the EQ, Horn, Limiter, and Contour options, not to mention the power that this insanely light amp can pump out. Perfect amp for playing live in any setting. I would suggest this to anyone and everyone!

A Great Little Combo Amp

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This GK Combo Amp is a great amp for the money. At 200 watts and at 33 lbs,I have more than enough power for playing in the clubs plus I'm won't break my back transporting it.The D.I input makes it easy to run into any soundboard for mixing.Too bad it didn't come with a jack to run another cabinet,The cabinets that GK makes as just as lite and portable.

Great basic amp

By Ray

from evansville, in

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Just picked up this amp last night. Needed a replacement that was loud and light. This one fits the bill. I was interested in hearing a GK combo after using my friend's GK 4x10. He likes my combo so much that he wished he bought one himself. At any rate, a great basic amp. If I could add one feature it doesn't have, it would be a mute switch (a tuner would be nice as well). My only small gripe so far is that even though it's light to carry, somehow a single handle just doesn't cut it, probably because it's on the top. It also would be nice if it came with a cover so that when the weather's lousy I don't have to carry it in a dry-cleaning bag. At any rate, love the sound. I tried Fender, Ampeg, Line6, and Acoustic - this one sounds the best.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This is an amazing amp. If this amp is in your price range, buy it, because you will not find anything better for $400! The tweeter is a little noisy if that's a deal breaker for you. This amp has plenty of volume. It has a little bit of a hifi sound to it, but overall very clear and dynamic.

Excellent amp that is very lightweight

By James

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This is my first real amp (also have a little Fender Rumble 15 practice amp) and it rocks! I've played on it with a full band to a crowd of about 200 people and I had no trouble hearing it with the master volume at about 75% and the gain at about 30%. The lows are very smooth and clear. The only negative is the horn. After playing on it for about 1 month, the horn began hissing and buzzing to the point that it is now almost useless. Other than that, this a great amp that weighs only 35 pounds which makes it very easy to carry and load/unload.

Very light, but powerful amp for the money.

By A C Clayton

from durham, nc

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

Having owned many different amps, I was looking forward to using the GK combo due to it's small size, it's wieght, GK's reliablity and sound. All of that being said, when I recieved it I was generally pleased with the sound, but I do feel it does not have that middle tone that I hoped it would have. Even with the horn it still comes across is basically a lot of bottom end, ultra high end, but no real middle tone. Working the eq helps a little, but having owned other amps I still find the mid tone lacking a bit. Still it's a great loud amp for the money and for most players I think it will do a nice job. Applications include practice, and small to medium size gigs.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This is my third GK amp in two years. I love their tone, they just keep blowing up and I have never pushed them more than half way with an active bass. Great for practice, but not for the gigging musician.

Superb Tone

By Steve Smith

from Whetstone, AZ

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This amp produces the bottom and tone I've been looking for since I used an 18-inch Kustom in the 70s. It has HUGE bottom end and the crispest highs I have ever seen in a bass amplifier. I've used several models of Fender, Peavey, Kustom, and Crate, but the GK MB115 is the only one that completely satisfies what I want with its tonal variations. It's also super lightweight and very well constructed. My only suggestion is that GK build in a tuner and turn the XLR output around. Super amp!!

Sweet Amp!

By Bassin'Jason

from Huntsville, TX

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

THIS amp should be nicknamed The Working Man's Amp! I play in small jazz combos and in a classic rock band. I needed enough power for the rock band, but light enough to carry to the small jazz gigs as well. I did some homework, and glad I did. First off, my back gave me a huge "thank you" as this amp is only 33lbs (my old Peavey Data Bass 15" was 72lbs!) Simple controls, yet sounds incredible for 200 watts. Horn is a little noisy, but not a deal breaker. Great sound for the price point(sounds as good as more expensive combos!) If you are needing an amp in this price range or wattage, look no further. Simply a great bass combo amp!

Awesome Amp with a Low price

By Greg

from Oak Lawn Illinois

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this amp because i needed a bass amp. I was so impressed with it. I play Jazz, Metal, Rock, and Funk, and this amp does all of that. I've had this amp for seven months.I've pushed this amp to the edge of its functioning point and it still runs like a champ, using it for 6 hours on almost max volume and its not even warm. The bass in the Metal band i'm in Really needs to cut through, and this amp allows the sound to do that. People have pressured me to buy a bigger/better setup, i tell them that this is all i'm going to need for a while. This amp is extremely powerful and offers a variety of tones for the players needs, its also a very light amp and doesnt hurt my back carrying it around. If you want a great, powerful, lightweight amp for under $$$ bucks, this is the amp you want.

Great Amp

By Cameron Simpson

from Michigan

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

This amp is far from a practice amp, it's very loud, and the sound I get out of it is very clean and nice. I really enjoy using this amp! It beats Acoustic brand amplifiers, and being a digital amp I was impressed with it. Tube amps sound great, but digital amps like this sound fantastic! Gallien-Krueger did an amazing job with the MB115. I would recommend this amp to any serious musician.

Versatile, light and loud

By John Bennett

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I like this amp a lot. The tone is excellent, the combination of gain and volume, plus a 4 band eq, PLUS the boost control (which works like an overdrive) gives you a lot of options when creating a sound that fits you. The boost is touch sensitive so you can set it in the middle and it'll only bite if you dig in, you can get clean and distorted tones without having to change settings. It's very lightweight *for a 200 watt 15 inch combo*, meaning it's not ULTRA portable. It actually looked and felt smaller in the store, weird how that happens. It's very portable but it's not tiny. I've found nothing wrong with this at all. Even the tweeter sounds good and I've read a lot of reviews that said it didn't. Maybe they fixed that issue, because mine sounds really clean. It gets plenty loud, like wall-shaking loud, but can pull of a good tone at low volume which was key for me. Best all-rounder I could find and the price and weight are so low it makes it pretty much perfect.

Excelent Bass Amp

By marcus whitted

from bloomington, illinois

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB115 1x15 200W Ultralight Bass Combo Amp:

I am very impressed with this amp. I was suspicious of the quality due to the size and weight but was blown away when i played it in the store. After taking it home i was even further suprised when i got into the tweaking of the amp. I have been playing bass for the last 10+ years. I play a Hohner B-bass Professional with active pickups. I replaced my Peavey Max-160 head and 500 watt, single 15" cabinet with the GK MB-115. This amp delivers clear, deep bass tones and still has the clarity to be heard without the tweeter ingaged. The tweeter cleans and brightens up the sound nicely but does not take away from the nice thick tone. The contour switch is a nice touch as it thickens the tone a bit and adds a little chimey overtone. With seperate gain and volume knobs the sky is the limit with the volume. And the boost knob engages the beautiful GK growel that GK can offer. I have played a GK 700-RB2 with an Ampeg 4x12 and this amp is the closest i have come to getting that sound back and at just a fraction of the cost and weight. This is an excelent amp! If you are looking for a smaller amp but dont want to lose the tone and power of a large amp, this is your amp. I am very picky about my tone and GK is the only brand i have ever been fully satisfied with. You can play any style of music with this amp. This amp is solid!! I highly recomend it.
