Did my research for almost a year before ordering this amp online. Pulled it out of the box and everything looked great, but when I plugged it in the hi-mid control was not working properly and it popped and cracked and hissed terribly. I know this was probably a fluke, but not a good first impression of GK quality.I returned it the next day and got an Ampeg!

Exactly what I expected from GK

By wayne kent

from Garfield, NJ

After many years of lugging around 100 plus pound amps/speakers. I started searching for an amp that would go easier on my gettin' old back. The problem,in my mind, was how could thiat compete with the sound of the much larger combo amp that I've been using (with the help of a handtruck)? I went online to find what was out there. Then I went to Guitar Center to try out what they had in lightweight combos. I saw a 15" GK buried in a corner, plugged in a 5-string and tried to break it up. Couldn't. I went home and looked up GK's website and found they had a 12" that weighed even less. I ordered it,tried it out in the store, took it on an outdoor concert with my group, carried it from the car like a hand bag and played the hell out of the gig. Best buy I've ever made. Yayy!! GK and Guitar Center.

Great Versatile Combo Amp!

By Jorge Salas

from Nacogdoches, TX

First of all, the shipping from Guitar Center was second to none. I ordered this amp on Monday morning and it arrived by Wednesday afternoon just in time for a gig! Playing both upright and electric bass, I was looking for an amplifier that would serve both instruments well and the the GK MB112 has not let me down. It has a huge low end register and but still captures the warmth of the upright while maintaining the pop of the electrice. The XLR direct output works well without any extra buzz like other amplifier send lines. I was skeptical about switching to GK but I'm glad I took the chance and now I'm a customer for life!

Did not dissapoint!

By Mac Mann

from Madison, Wisconsin

I've been playing about 7 years now and, like my friend over here who gave the amp 1 star, I too do extensive research on an item before buying it. I too thought this was far too good to be true. But I have concluded something with every review I read, some of which are true, but the ones that do give the product a bad review probably just got a faulty model. I bought it even after a horrid review. The amp sells itself right away. I absolutely love the wide range of tones I've gotten with the amp. I can get a great driving crunch or a smooth jazzy tone all in the flick of a few knobs. What's great is, I've gotten every tone I've ever admired with this amp. Bottom line, you cannot go wrong guys!

Mighty Mite from the Pacific Rim

By JOHN RAGUSO

from Elwood, NY

What can you say about the MB112 that hasn't been said here already? It's small, light, loud with a tight punch, and has four independent tone controls with a mid/high contour switch. I have been playing bass professionally for over 45 years and got this to replace my beloved made-in-USA 400RB/15 IV combo that is twice the size, weighs twice as much, yet puts out about the same amount of net quality sound in a practice room or a small audience. The GK 400RB's USA control panel has more features (contour sweep, presence sweep, gate control and a few other on/off tone controls), so it has a wider range of tone compared to this MB112 ChiComm import, plus the American GK product allows for a handy extension speaker that really brings it to life at 4-ohms, which is not available on the made-in-China MB112. However, the 150W (8-ohm)/240W (4-ohm) power amp on the 400RB is not as strong as the MB112's 200W engine, since the MB112 uses a 4-ohm speaker to get max potential from its little box from the get go, but doen't offer any speaker cab extensions. The MB112 gets high marks for all of the aforementioned attributes and gets one star deleted for its more restricted tonal range. A potential warning to look out for down the road with the MB112 is its potentally balky on/off switch...a fellow bass player buddy who gigs 5x a week has burned through two of these already on his MB112s and finally took the second one back and traded it in for an Italian Mark 112 bass amp...reliability is a key ingredient too, but only time will tell. By the way, my "other" pro bass rig for "serious" gigs is a GK 1000RB with two 212 NEO cabs, which is the most awesome amp/speaker cab combo I have ever used...and I have played them all boys...played them all.

MUCH MUCH MORE than just a practice amp/combo

By Davyo

from Las Vegas Nv

I used to own all MarkBass gear, Berlin 1x15 combo with a 1x15 NY ext cab I also owned the MarkBass 112 combo, but I wanted something even smaller and lighter so I sold my MarkBass gear and got the the GK MB212 combo and then the GK MB210 combo,,, very happy with both GK combo's. So since I love my MB212 and MB210 so much I decided to give the MB112 a try,,,,in a word,, WOW !!!! The MB112 is loud and has no problem keeping up with any of the bands I am in, and we play pretty loud at rehearsal's. My fellow band members are still in shock at every rehearsal. Would I use the MB112 on a live gig (small bar, small club) yea,,, I think the MB112 could pull it off in a small club, and with PA support no problem at all. I have to mention that I did love my MarkBass gear and Im not saying the GK is better, overall I think the MarkBass and the GK stuff I have owned are about even,, but the one big thing going for the GK stuff is its much cheaper than the MarkBass stuff. Anyhow,,,, Im LOVIN my MB210, MB212 and MB112,,, and they look really cool after I painted the ugly silver grills black. Cheers Davyo

Incredible, Just Incredible!

By Mike Riley

from Chico, Ca

I just got back from band practice with my new MB112. I'm not much of a reviewer of gear, but I had to say something. I have another amp that weighs in at 100 pounds and carrying it around to small gigs and band practice was beginning to get just plain silly. I wanted something that could be heard over drums, weigh less than 40 pounds, and at a great price. I found some amps that kind of fit the bill, but I wasn't too excited about them. Then I played this bad boy. 200 watts into a 112, and 28 pounds. Sure it's a little more, but it's totally worth it. I could even play small venues with it. Heck, I could even play big gigs with it if the place had a P.A. because it has an XLR out (though they mounted it backwards and you have to use a car key to get it out...weird). Look, if you want a super high quality amp with great tone for practice, small gigs, recording, etc. and don't want to break your back or the bank this is what you have to buy...hands down.

GK MB112

By Ron Harrison

from Beulah, MI

I had my first gig the another night with this amp. It was spectacular. I played a new Fender Sqiuire P-bass and 70's Jazz. Both sounded great. It was a al boomy room but I was able to get a flat tone. Volume was no problem with guitars and drums I also tried my acoustic guitars through it which is another reason I picked this model. My Giannini CPP classical and handmade classiscal sounded perfectly natural! I was hoping for this. One amp for all needs, right? My 87 Martin M-36 also sounded good but I need a pre-amp to really do the job. Great amp...Grrreat price!

GK Ultra Light Bass Amp Combo

By Steve

from Harrisburg NC

Great amp, great tone, I play in a church contemporary band and blues club. Great value. the direct out is a great feature for sending signal through main mixing board and PA system, not normally found in this price range. The 200 watts is perfect for my venue, plenty of power but not overkill. It will blow you away if you crank it. Very easy to transport, lightweight, Highly recomend. Ordered on a Monday, delivered on Wednesday, super fast! Buy it!
