I bought this head as a spur of the moment decision to go along with the matching Backline 4 by 10 cabinet I had just purchased. Unleashing this little half-stack on an unsuspecting club while hammering a mid-70's Rickenbacker 4003 literally caused jaws to drop. This head is sonically very transparent; it faithfully reproduces every nuance of the player without unduly coloring the tone. For smaller venues, this amp is MORE than enough. The head comes with some standard tone-shaping options, with the added features of an effects loop, XLR output and A/B channels that make life for the gigging musician (AND soundmen) a lot easier. I've used the "overdrive" channel a bit, and I have to say it beats a pedal hands down in reproducing low-end frequencies. Overall, 350 watts in a head that both sounds nice and won't send you to a chiropractor after hauling it around is definitely a win/win situation. Buy it!

I really like the sound (especially with the goldline speakers) but... I've tried a few of these, owning 1, and they commonly have some issues. It's just a really touchy amp (crackling, cutting out, sometimes even getting distortion without changing the channels)... but I have lent it out with no problems reported. I wouldn't use this as my main go-to amp. I just keep it in my home studio to practice on at low volumes - sounds really nice for that. I do like the direct out for recording. It's affordable but if you can afford more, consider something else.

Lots of power in a litle package.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I bought this amp about a month ago along with a BLX410 and a BLX115. The sound that comes out of this stack is awesome. I was also on a tight budget, this fit perfectly and I dare say it rivals any of those expensive amps and cabs out there. The fan is a litle to small but i found a little fan to set on top of it and blow cool air in it so I don't have a problem with it overheating. All in all, it's one of the best out there.

Backline 600 ROCKS

By Col. Aquino

from Castro Valley, Ca.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I have been playing Bass for over 25 years and I have been using Fender exclusively. I wanted to change my sound and the salesman mentioned the GK Backline. He let me plug in and I was sold. Crisp clear bass tones is what I have been looking for and found it in the GK Backline 600. I also still have the functionality of returning to the Heavy Metal sound by just a push of a button. I could not do that with my (Fender) Bassman 100. I don't have to worry about TUBES with the GK either. I am very satisfied with my new amp.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I got the backline 600 with the GK 4x10 half stack. Everything was fine until the input started cutting in and out. I'm currently in the process of trying to talk to the people at GK to see if there's anything they can do about it.

Really Friggin' LOUD! Sounds good, too!

By Rinos88

from Morton, Illinois

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I'm a long time Ampeg user who happened to go to my local Guitar Center one day and plugged into this amp in order to try out a cabinet configuration of the GK 210 BLX and 115blx. For a cheap amp, I wasn't expecting much. Was I ever shocked when I turned the volume up to where I thought it would give me a decent volume. Well, I was wrong! It was extremely LOUD, clear and sounded surprisingly good. While I have my main Ampeg rig for stage use as 'my' sound, I'd have absolutely no doubt that this head could be a main stage amp. In fact, I'm now running a dual rig. Ampeg rig on one side and this GK Backline with a GK210blx and 115blx on the other side of the stage. My only gripe is that the effects loop is on the front and the fan is on the top. Other than that, this thing is a tank with power and tone.

LOUD, TONEFUL and surprisingly AFFORDABLE!

By Rinos88

from Morton, Illinois

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I bought this head along with the GK 210BLX and 115BLX cabs to save the wear on my main stage rig and use this for practice. Nothing could prepare me for the power this thing has! This thing is extremely LOUD! I'd have absolutely no problem using this on a huge stage if my main rig quit. It sounds way better than anything in this price range and even better than some more expensive amps. It is extremely articulate and warm. I bought it as a backup because it was cheap. I never expected the quality of tone and power that I got for the price. My only gripe is that the effects loop should've been on the back.

solid head

By jacqui StGermain

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I started with a Gk backline 250.It was a good amp, just needed more power. This delivers. Used a 600 and a 410 cab(instructors rig) while learning to play, and have stayed with it ever since. It makes everything from my "entry level" Ibanez, to my Warwick Corvette 4 active sound great . wide range of tone controls. had occasional over-heating problem. but I bought the rack ears(it's in a open audiorack, NOT a travel case) and the extra airflow around the unit seems to have solved that

Best Bang for the Buck!!!

By Gotbass?

from Grand Blanc, MI

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

This amp is a nice amp with decent power and features. The active EQ lets you dial in any tone you want. The downside is the DI is a little noisy for a church setting, but fine if your rocking it out.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

This head was a great deal and makes my cab sound sick. I loved how much it was because I went in with a budget and it fit to my liking. I am very happy with this Bass head and I recommend it to any bass player looking for a good deal on a half stack.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

Wow!! What a deal!! This thing blew me away when i turned it on and cranked it up!! But my first impression when i took it out of the box was that it was a little small. But heck no!! This thing really rumbles!! I can drown out both of my guitarists and i wont even have it turned all the way!! This thing is great. I recommend using this head with the Gallien-Krueger 410SBX cabinet..great combination! I defenitly recommend!!

The sound I wanted for the price i can afford

By Eric Brock

from Bloomington IN

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I bought 2 of these... 1 for my Ampeg 15 cab, and the other for my Ampeg 4 10's cab... and my rig sounds ridiculously good for the price there are a few advantages to having 2... 1, you can eq them different, to fine tune one for the 15 and one for the 4 10s. 2, I like to use the GK footswitch on the 4 10s amp, having the 4 10s cab distorted and the 15 clean really keeps the bass sound beefy while distorted... oh yeah 3, If one ever dies, or over heats, the show will go on!

Best Cheap Amp

By B-Rod

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

This GK Backline 600 is probably the best thing you can buy IF you don't want to spend alot. I've been using mine four about two years and its survived alot of abuse. However it doesn't do well in heat. I had to rack mount two other fans to keep it from overheating on stage. Overall it's probably the most reliable, versatile, and powerfull amp you can get for the price.

Good Head For The Price

By Matt

from Michigan

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

This head is quite a step above my Behringer 450 i had. This head has that deep bass that was so much louder than my previous head. It had the overdrive channel switch which is a nice touch if you absolutely need it. the EQ's are nice but you need to fine tune it really good to get that sound you are looking for. I bought the head and a SKB rack thinking that it came with the rack ears already, well it didn't and that really wasn't how i wanted my day to end. So if you buy this head make sure you order the rack ears when you buy it. Other than that it's a great buy.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I got this head about a year ago and it has served me very well. although the tone range can be restricted by the speakers you are using, it has great sound even with an 8 ohm subwoofer. the only major flaw is that it can overheat pretty quickly so dont use it in direct sunlight.

Good punch, but lacks some energy

By Tha Ladies Man

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I bought this head with my GK 4x10 cab about a year ago. This little head sounds great at any level. The one drawback is that the fan in it is too small so it tends to overheat after about an hour of hard playing. I've used it live and just for practicing and I have no other complaints about it. There is a great EQ to get exactly the tone you want from it. Just make sure it's in a cool place.

I bought the GK Backline ...

By wormrock222

from Nashville, TN

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I bought the GK Backline 600 Bass head from Guitar Center about 6 months ago and I really enjoy it. I run it through a BX115 bass cabinet as a monitor at gigs and it produces plenty of punch. My favorite thing about this amp is its fat tone. The sound is round and deep. I play it with a Musicman Stingray 5 string (active bass) but I never need to turn it up above half-way to get enough sound to hear it above 2 guitarists, keyboard, and drummer. The features of this amp are nice. The equalizer is great and the contour dial adds a nice bit of color to the sound. I hardly ever use the distortion, but its nice to know its there. The effect and tuner loops really come in handy, as well as the XLR direct out (no need for a direct box!). The major downside to this amp is that it does not have a headphone jack. Also, the amp tends to fuzz out when its turned up and I play really high and fast. I have never experienced this problem on the low end though. Overall, its a good amp. I've played fender, crate and other brands, but I like the sound I get from this amp the best. I also had a fairly tight budget, which made it very attractive.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

i needed a good rig cause m band started playing shows and my 60 watt combo just wasn't suiting me. so i decided to look on line and order something. i wasn't to sure on this because i never played it but just trusted the reviews. when i got this and the blx 410 and 210 i plugged them up and bow was i glad i got this. it says its only 300 watts but i beg to differ, it sounds way louder! im so glad i did order this, the only problem is the fan. its in a very awkward place, but i can deal with it just dont leave it on for along time. besides that its perfect

Timex of Amps

By Big John

from San Antonio, TX

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 600 Bass Head:

I bought this about 3 years ago and have 150+ gigs on it not to mention all of the rehearsals. This thing is the Timex of amps. It has been dropped several times by other band members but keeps on ticking. Sounds great too. The only thing I would add to it is a DI level adjustment and rack ears.
