Sweet sounds?

By Chris

from Virginia

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 112 Bass Combo:

Wow. Things amp is amazing! I love it! Great buy if you're looking for a gig- or show-ready amp! Love the options it has too! I play metal, grunge, jazz, blues, and classical-- and this amp can do it all! For screeching highs and sucker-punch lows, overdrive it. For thumping bass, switch to clean channel. But for the cleanest sounds, no lie, this actually works, and I love the tone-- plug your bass into the jack called "Mix", that is a sound any jazz bassist would die for. And this amp is at a steal for the price! Totally worth it, buy it today, I loved it, I hope you do too!

M-mm!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 112 Bass Combo:

Yeah! This amp is awesome. I've had mine for about a year and a half now, and it still pumps out low, punchy bass, and those sweet singing, distorted highs! Love the overdrive, and is perfect to lay over your other effects, very nice. The wieght isn't much (bass players, we're freakin buff, it's nothing) so it's cool to go on the road. It has tons of sound, felixble tone, which is the one thing bass can't live without! If you're looking for just THAT much more sound though, buy a cabinet and just have a make-shift stack. It's nothing serious, but I admit, sometimes when our drummer is just going freak'n nuts behind me, I DO need a bit more sound to not be drowned. So just get a second cabinet, it's not expensive (maybe like a small Ampeg or Crate) and then, you're unstoppable!

great lightweight combo

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 112 Bass Combo:

I'm a country player so I only use the clean channel. I initially found this amp a bit difficult to adjust to the sound I wanted as compared to my Ampeg but with a few minutes of experimentation you can get a nice full mellow sound. I bought it because of the weight, and while it isn't all that light it is manageable. I use if for all my on stage sound and DI to the mains for FOH. My 6 piece band is all acoustic so the level is not a problem. I have used it with success in one large venue without the FOH and was told it carried to the back easily. (approx 500 people, but it was a concert not a dance.) I like the sound better on my Ampeg BA115, but I can carry this one myself.

Couldn't Be Happier with Performance

By Randy

from San Antonio, Texas

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 112 Bass Combo:

I purchased this combo to use for smaller gigs and as a practice amp. I was not disappointed. The small size and ease of transportation was great. In addition, I was amazed at the stage volume and presence. Though I ran through a board for volume in the hall where we played, the stage volume was really surprising. I highly recommend this amp as a very well priced combo.

It Gets The Job Done.

By Pilots Bassist

from Arlington, Tx

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 112 Bass Combo:

I bought this amp because my band was playing a show and all i had was a puny 10 watt amp. at the time, it was one of the best deals as far as dollar/watt but as time went on i started to dislike it. first of all it has this horrible high pitched whistle whenever it is on for any length of time that is very annoying and the tone tends to get very bladdy as you go past 9:00 on the Master and 12:00 on the Channel Volume but then again it does only have a 15 inch speaker so i guess its understandable. what i do love about it is the steal cage shield it gives me piece of mind and the tone customization possibilities are endless just don't turn it up too loud. i also love the two inputs and the tilt back those come in handy when you are just sitting around jamming. the only other thing i have to say about it is the weight. this thing is really heavy compared to other hundred watt amps. my next bass amp will be an acoustic because i love the pure bass tone that it has but if you like edgy sound that is infinitely customizable and don't mind a whistle, this is yo amp!

Much to be desired!

By SPC Bassist

from Little Creek, VA

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Backline 112 Bass Combo:

Dreadful thing. I liked it for the first few months, and almost 2 years later, I can't stand it. It's tone is alright, though it distorts WAY too easily at most any level (not even good distortion!). The contour feature leaves your sound dead in the water which, for bass players that like being heard, is a problem. The whole unit gets very unreliable after the first 6-8 months, and since the day I bought mine, I've had terrible problems with it over-heating at the worst times. Big no-no on a gig! Really in the end, I use it as a cabinet. I've taken an old preamp, taken the jack from the speaker in the back of this GK, and plugged it into the speaker-out on the better preamp. No over-heating, no flat tone: No problem! It's up to you in the end, it's not my first choice by any means, though it serves as a good cabinet.
