I've used this amp on many concert stages as backline. It never disappointed me. I decided to buy one. This came about when I played at Harrah's Casino in New Orleans. They had a GK 400 RB with a Ampeg 4-10 BLHF cab that blew me away. Then on the big theater stage they had me use 2 Ampeg 4-10 cabs and a GK 800 RB, Wow you need to hear this combination. Nothing in my 30 years sounded like this !!!! My Roland VB-99 will let you know if your speakers and amp can handle those synth sounds. GK has had it right for a long time.
I purchased the amp as I have always wanted the power, cross over cabability and the simplicity of the controls in an 800rb. However, after 20 plus years, you would think that the quality would have improved! My contour button has an electric pop when operated and the amp makes a thump noise through my cabinets when I shut it down. This is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 5. I will state this in my warranty card to GK as this is rediculous after all these years producing this product.
The 800 RB has been my bass amp for a long time, About 8 years. I have had to replace the power supply because of phantom power issues. That was the old power supply, the new one does not have the same problem, think it just needed a ground. Anyway, Love it, trust it, and man what a beefy amp for only 200wrms @ 8ohms. I use the crossover to feed my Genz-Benz 2x10 w/ the 100watt amp and Genz-Benz 4x10 gets 200watts. Wish the eq was graphic or parametric though. Tough as nails! Buy it used! Peace
I purchased a GK 800RB back in the early '90's and seriously tested it playing clubs from Buffalo to LA as well as open air festivals and even a 3500 seat civic center. The 800RB handled everything I threw at it! From a booming low end 18"&4x10" yamaha speaker combo stack in the early days, to a simple 15" crate cabinet now--it all sounds great at any volume. I keep thinking I should replace 'the old girl', but she keeps on going like the energizer bunny-never once in the shop! Great peice of equipment GK!
