  • Lightweight and Powerful

As reviewed by RYAN TERRELL on 8/26/2013

The 2 x 12s turned out to be a great option, I had originally ordered the 4 x 10 version of the same, but it was back ordered for a really long time, so I switched. I really like the modern sound that the 2 x 12s neos give. The 500 watts is plenty of power to compete with the 2 guitarists in my band. Of the controls, the Boost knob is my favorite...gives a very pleasing breakup/edge to the sound. The 41 lbs overall weight is a true win, I can enter with the amp in one hand, a backpack full of cables and effects, and my J-Bass in the other. One trip! The composite material that makes the cabinet is the reason it is so light, yet the trade off and the reason for 4 stars is that you can bang it up really easily. (I've used a black sharpie and electrical tape to cover a few dings already). That having been said, this is a great value overall and sounds tremendous.

  • Amp has heating issues after 1.5 hours of playing

As reviewed by Mark on 7/24/2014

I love the sound of the amp, and ESPECIALLY the portability. It's a great all-around box, and I've enjoyed it so far. EXCEPT - if I leave it turned on for more than 1.5 hours, it starts to make an awful screeching sound thru the speakers. Normal practice sessions of <1 hour won't show this. I found it out at my first gig with it in December '13, and thought it was a fluke. It's thermal, since it happens after the amp has been turned on for a while, and when you shut it off and turn it back on it's still there. You have to let it cool down before the noise is gone. I've repeated this process many times, so it's not a one-off thing. It's in for service right now, hopefully GK can come up with a good fix for it. I'd hate to give this up, especially when I was planning to buy an extension cabinet since it's so light, sounds really good, and has plenty of punch.

  • comparing popular combo amps for clean sound

As reviewed by STEVEN on 5/23/2014

I was looking for a bass combo that produced a "clean, clear" sound for practice and medium-sized venues. I compared a Markbass, Fender, Hartke and GK. I had the controls set to neutral on all models. I was not interested in any effects, just sound clarity. The more expensive ones were the GK MK210-ii 500 watt model and the Markbass CMD 102P. Although fine sounding, I would be hard pressed to hear a difference between the new Fender model v3 500 watt, the Hartke 115 500 watt and the Markbass CMD 102P despite a dramatic price difference. The GK MK210-ii however sounded dramatically more clean and open sounding (much less boxy sounding) than the others. My decision was simple. They matched the lowest price online and are shipping the ultralightweight to my house at no cost. While I am sure there are many other considerations other bassist have, the clean and open sound of this GK well met my criterion.
