After 20 years of using an old Peavey Mark III bass head I screwed up at a gig and didn't use a circuit protector with the power source at an outdoor concert. Needless to say a power surge hit it and left me using the monitors and house subs to hear my bass with. I started searching for a new head and was very skeptical about something so small packing any kind of umph. I read many reviews and had heard lots of good things about GK. I use a Peavey 410 TX cab at gigs. I also use a smaller Peavey 15" cab that used to be a 25 yr old 2x15 cab but when one of the speakers blew I cut it in half to save myself the money and to have a smaller cab for practices. Anyways, I went to Guitar Center and specifically tried the MB2 Ultra light only on another 410 cab. I loved the sound and bought it right away. Took it home and plugged it into my 15" cab and WOW!!! That cab with my Ibanez BTB405 had never sounded so good in the 5 years that I've owned my Ibanez. My 410 cab was in our bands trailer at a bandmates house so the anticipation was growing as to when I could play it on the 410 cab. As soon as I did, I knew I was keeping this head. I've only had it about a month now and have played 10 4 hour gigs with it without any problems. Oh yeah, I had to take the floor model until mine comes in from GK. The one thing I don't like as someone else said is that the knobs don't stay put when its being stored. Until I can remember exactly what settings I use mostly, I have to keep looking at the manual for its reccomendations for the dials and tweak it from there. One concert we did was at a country music festival, and the pro sound guy said he liked the sound from my little MB2 DI output the best outta all the bands from that weekend. I had another bassist come up to me last night and ask me what that was on top of my 410 cab, when I told him that it pushes 500 watts he about crapped his pants. I like it when people are stunned about the gear I have!
I went to Guitar Center to hang out with a fellow bassist who was visiting from out of town. We plugged this thing into a 410 cabinet and I went a week later to buy it. This small head fits perfect in my gig bag or my back pack when traveling and now I don't leave home without it. I was at an outdoor gig over the summer that had an Ampeg 810 stack and head available and I put that amp almost full volume. Not feealing comfortable with the volume settings, I quickly took out my little critter and at 1/4 volume, I had everyone in the band looking at me in shocked because of the massive volume coming out of this little box. I recommend it to anyone requiring good sound and wanting to be heard. I've also have gotten good comments from sound engineers at different gigs. You won't be dissappointed.
I bought this about 3 months ago and was blown away by the performance. I have mated this with an Aguilar 2x12 @4 ohm. I barely have to turn the volume up on the Bass as there is so much power just fighting to be let loose.
Great product.
