The little head that could!

I bought this head as a spur of the moment decision to go along with the matching Backline 4 by 10 cabinet I had just purchased. Unleashing this little half-stack on an unsuspecting club while hammering a mid-70's Rickenbacker 4003 literally caused jaws to drop. This head is sonically very transparent; it faithfully reproduces every nuance of the player without unduly coloring the tone. For smaller venues, this amp is MORE than enough. The head comes with some standard tone-shaping options, with the added features of an effects loop, XLR output and A/B channels that make life for the gigging musician (AND soundmen) a lot easier. I've used the "overdrive" channel a bit, and I have to say it beats a pedal hands down in reproducing low-end frequencies. Overall, 350 watts in a head that both sounds nice and won't send you to a chiropractor after hauling it around is definitely a win/win situation. Buy it!

Lots of power in a litle package.

I bought this amp about a month ago along with a BLX410 and a BLX115. The sound that comes out of this stack is awesome. I was also on a tight budget, this fit perfectly and I dare say it rivals any of those expensive amps and cabs out there. The fan is a litle to small but i found a little fan to set on top of it and blow cool air in it so I don't have a problem with it overheating. All in all, it's one of the best out there.

Great Buy

I just bought this amp for playing bass in my highschool pep band. It was worth every cent. The amp generates plenty of sound (which has a very nice quality to it), and is pretty simple to operate. I am playing this on a JBL PA system (it's only a 15" sub with a tweeter), and it's got enough sound to be heard above 50 brass instruments and still have a quality tone. I highly suggest this amp for bass players.

LOUD, TONEFUL and surprisingly AFFORDABLE!

I bought this head along with the GK 210BLX and 115BLX cabs to save the wear on my main stage rig and use this for practice. Nothing could prepare me for the power this thing has! This thing is extremely LOUD! I'd have absolutely no problem using this on a huge stage if my main rig quit. It sounds way better than anything in this price range and even better than some more expensive amps. It is extremely articulate and warm. I bought it as a backup because it was cheap. I never expected the quality of tone and power that I got for the price. My only gripe is that the effects loop should've been on the back.

VERY good for the price

i needed a good rig cause m band started playing shows and my 60 watt combo just wasn't suiting me. so i decided to look on line and order something. i wasn't to sure on this because i never played it but just trusted the reviews. when i got this and the blx 410 and 210 i plugged them up and bow was i glad i got this. it says its only 300 watts but i beg to differ, it sounds way louder! im so glad i did order this, the only problem is the fan. its in a very awkward place, but i can deal with it just dont leave it on for along time. besides that its perfect

Really Friggin' LOUD! Sounds good, too!

I'm a long time Ampeg user who happened to go to my local Guitar Center one day and plugged into this amp in order to try out a cabinet configuration of the GK 210 BLX and 115blx. For a cheap amp, I wasn't expecting much. Was I ever shocked when I turned the volume up to where I thought it would give me a decent volume. Well, I was wrong! It was extremely LOUD, clear and sounded surprisingly good. While I have my main Ampeg rig for stage use as 'my' sound, I'd have absolutely no doubt that this head could be a main stage amp. In fact, I'm now running a dual rig. Ampeg rig on one side and this GK Backline with a GK210blx and 115blx on the other side of the stage. My only gripe is that the effects loop is on the front and the fan is on the top. Other than that, this thing is a tank with power and tone.

Pretty Damn Good

The GK Backline 600 is a great head. i replaced my Ampeg ST 400 with one, and i will never go back. its smaller, it has a better EQ, the distortion is great, but it does heat up quickly, and that causes concern. i say its completely worth the price, and i would buy it again, no question.

Great Amp in It's Price Range

I use to have a GK 700RB which is a better amp then this but I still think this is a great amp for the price. I bought it because I got hired as a studio/tour bassist and didn't have a lot of money to buy a good amp right now. To be honest there are a TON of bad reviews about this item failing but I hope that it'll last me at least a year. The only real CON I have with it is that the rack ears are NOT included with it, seriously, what the heck?

You won't regret getting this head.

The sound that you get out of this amp for the money is great! I don't use the overdrive channel much at all, but it sounds much better than my Ibanez Phat Head overdrive/distortion pedal. I guess it's there if I need it. Anyways, right now I am just pushing the BLX 115 cab and it sounds really good. I am thinking of adding the GoldLine 2 10" cab to use all together or just separately, depending on the venue. The automatic fan in the top helps keep it cool and makes NO noise at all when on. I play a Fender 5 String Jazz Bass through this amp. Good stuff. You know you want this amp, so go get one... NOW. Go on.

Great for any bass!

This little head is amazing! I play the double bass for my school orchestra, and sense i'm the only bassist, my teacher suggested I get an amp/pickup system. So I teamed this up with a Gallien-Krueger 4X10 and 1X15 and some Peizo's, and I can be heard over 43 violins, 25 violas and 10 cellos. And I also take that stack on the road with my Rockbass Fortress 5, and can be heard over three Marshall full stacks and the drummer. This thing has amazing sound too!!! It's an amazing deal!!
