Overview

The G&L Tribute Ascari GTS HB3 Electric Guitar was inspired by a recently uncovered prototype drawing done three decades ago by G&L co-founder George Fullerton, representing Leo Fenders vision for G&L's first 24.75 in. scale, three-tuners-to-a-side guitar. It was designed jointly by G&L's Paul Gagon and Grover Jackson, founder of Jackson Guitars. Its DNA is full of rock guitar history.

Yet it breaks new ground for G&L: it has a set neck, a Leo-inspired headstock with three tuners to a side, and a 24.75 in. scale to put it squarely on the classic side of the rock-and-roll stage.

Add in a TonePros tailpiece and three tappable Alnico humbuckers, and you have a gorgeous, high-performance rock guitar thats simultaneously strikingly new and steeped in rock guitar history.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASCARI GTS HB3 Electric Guitar:

Purchased elsewhere, the Irish Ale (red) version. Not as bright as picture shows but still very nice looking. Binding, pickup chrome quality, etc are all good but not great. The flame top is good, the tone is very good. None of it is great, but if we use a 500-600 dollar measuring stick (normal retail) then it is a very good value and offers a lot of usable tones. Splitting into single coil mode with a pull gets you traditional Strat sounds, pushing back in gets you the same switching but humbuckers, which is unusual for HB pickups. Single coil tones are acceptable to good but not a replacement for a Telecaster or Strat, so best for people who mainly use humbuckers and just need the occasional single coil sounds. Like most humbuckers, they are just a little thin. Not bad, just thin. The humbuckers (which are actual G+L, not someone else's) are very clean, lots of chime, sound good dirty as well and are very usable. Middle pickup is exactly the same as neck. Balance when switching is good, except going from HB to single coil is a big drop off, but that is expected. Set up out of the box was respectable, good strings, almost in tune, I just tuned and started playing, intonation seems fine. Neck feels really, really nice.

If you want to add a three humbucker guitar to your collection and want one that is very usable, and you can catch it on sale, it is a no brainer. Would I take it to a bar gig? Absolutely.
