Overview

The G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy is a factory-modded version of Leo's final word on the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on guitar, and the semi-hollow version takes it further with G&L's distinctive twin voice chambers and f-hole added to a beautiful swamp ash body. Like its solid-body stablemate, this axe delivers a well-balanced pairing of a G&L alnico humbucker designed by Paul Gagon and a single-coil G&L Magnetic Field Design bridge pickup designed by Leo Fender.

Framed in a classic boxed-steel bridge, the single-coil MFD bridge pickup delivers crisp attack with complex harmonics while individual brass saddles offer modern levels of intonation refinement. Flip to the neck ˜bucker and you'll discover all the charismatic warmth you could ask for. Put ˜em together and you'll find yourself immersed in exploring the limits of this guitar's surprising versatility. What's more, the semi-hollow body softens the midrange attack, accentuating the low and high harmonics.

Case sold separately.

Bluesboy Tribute a HIT!

By Ricky

from Mobile,AL

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This is my first G&L, and this tribute model is not my last! In my mind I had thought of these as just another cheap guitar, not so. While an overseas produced guitar, unlike other USA based guitar companies, they do have some USA parts, but the guitar itself is great out of the box! Took to a gig as is, performed as well as my USA made guitars, in fact, I played this guitar all night. I actually like the sound of the pickups compared to other guitar I have similar to this one! The tuners do not feel like cheap asian parts, very smooth and tuning was a breeze. the neck feels good in the hand, the frets are large enough for some serious bending without fretting out and not dragging on the fretboard, as I have several brands of guitars the gloss on the neck doesn?t bother me, but if you like a satin feel, scotch bright can fix that. The ash body is so resonate you can feel air movement from the f-hole, the finish is very nice, the grain in the wood is very much pleasing to the eye. The bridge is as it should be, perfect, easy to adjust, if the need arises, and has that vintage look and feel. The controls a little stiff, but are smooth and accurate. If you are a tele fan you will love this guitar, if you are starting out you will love this guitar. If you want an american made guitar but don?t have the coin, you will love this guitar. From Jazz to Classic Rock to blues, this guitar can do it all! To name this guitar ?Classic? or ?Bluesboy? seems to me inaccurate, because the versatility of this guitar goes way beyond what the name implies,

An ASAT with a twist

By Jordan Lansdowne

from Youngstown Ohio

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

G&L makes great stuff, no doubt. I've owned Tributes as well as USA versions of their guitars and both of them live up to the name very well. This guitar in particular is no exception. The sound is richer than you would expect from any Tele or ASAT due to it's true semi hollow body and chambering. I once owned a Fender thinline and it sounded kind of tinny compared to this one. The tone is not that of your traditional telecaster. The neck pickup is thick, kind of what you would expect from a Les Paul, but a little brighter. The neck pickup can get you close to a typical tele but with the semi hollow body it gives it a different characteristic. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the frets were very jagged and made the guitar hard to play at first, but I had a luthier take care of that and now it's about perfect.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

This review is for the G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar, Clear Orange w/Maple Fretboard. I'm a closet player, and play for my own pleasure, satisfaction, therapy etc. I've only just recently acquired this instrument and haven't had a lot of time to play it, but the 2 hours that I did when I first got it home was wonderful! It's a little warmer-sounding than an old Fender Tele (but I dig that tone/sound, wannbe Jazz player and all...); I attribute that to the G&L custom-wound neck pickup, which is where I tend to play from. Don't let that put you off though, it's got plenty of bark, bite and depth at the mid and bridge positions too. I own an older G&L ASAT Deluxe Special (a really fine instrument, serialized and made in Fullerton CA when George and Leo were running things) and this guitar, while made in Indonesia, has similar quality in terms of build-quality, finish and overall feel. Notes are clean and clear, and plays true all the way up the neck. The neck finish on the fretboard is heavily coated, as is the entire guitar body, and I thought that might be an issue but playing it proved otherwise, your mileage may vary. G&L continues to break ground here; I've wanted an F-hole Tele for over 30 years after playing a friends Fender and now I have one! This baby is REALLY PRETTY, and I am not disappointed at all and would recommend this instrument to anyone looking for same... :-)

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I'm an older guy who's been playing since the early '70's. Never had a Tele, but I couldn't ignore all of the great players who used them. I really like thin lines, but I've never liked the stying of the Fender versions. Mainly, the controls are not close enough the the strings to use them while playing, and the pick guards a not to my liking. G&L has put the controls where I want them, and the thing looks nicer. The sound is what I was looking for, and after a good set up it plays very well. My only concern is the cheap, plastic nut. Other less expensive makes put a better one one their guitars, why can't G&L?

It's a fun, great sounding guitar with a great feel. At the price I bought it at, I had my doubts and thought maybe I'd try it out but I was really surprised. I like it just as much as my American Special Strat and my Les Paul. It's really comfortable and I enjoy it a lot.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I became a professional musician and guitarist many years ago when I was 17. In my early 20's I bought a 72 Tele Thinline which I loved - unfortunately I traded it, not knowing it was something special. I've wanted another ever since - that plus the fact that this was Leo Fender's last design made me interested. My expectations were high when I ordered it and the minute I plugged this sweetie in it surpassed them. Fabulous sound, feel, tone both live and recording. This is a keeper! Bless you Leo!

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I've have a blonde SH Bluesboy for a couple years now. It is my favorite guitar in terms of fit, finish, comfort and feel. It's light, but balanced, has great action and resonance. I really like the neck on it too. It is ultra-comfortable (for me), especially compared to some of the other tribute models. I've played many of them, and this neck is my favorite. The radius, profile, and the finished back is all great. The ashtray bridge is cool, but takes getting used to. The knobs and pickup selector feel really sturdy and the volume/tone knobs work well unlike some other guitars. I wouldn't say the guitar is flawless - at least in terms of frets and but finish. It is one thousand percent usable and I'm just nit-picking, but don't expect American level quality in terms of cleanliness. Now for the pickups. As the name says, this guitar is made for the blues. That should be your starting point. The neck bucker is warm/dark. It will start to come to life at higher volumes or with the proper amp, but to my ear it seems geared towards a BB King style. The bridge pickup is twangy. I really like playing slide with it, because it just cuts great. It's got more output than traditional single coil bridges, but it's still a thin sound. The middle position is cool. The website description is cryptic, but essentially you get the bass from the neck and some high treble for the bridge, plus some of the clunky sound that's typical from the middle spot. This guitar is really cool. It may not become your go to guitar unless you're in a Stones cover band, but it's a lot of fun to play. It sounds really nice clean or on the verge of breakup. Heavy OD or distortion is a bit trickier to dial in, but it definitely can be done.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

I have several guitars for several different styles of playing ranging from a 12-string hollow body to a Strat to an ES-335. I needed to upgrade my solid body and wanted a "tele" style and sound. After much research, which included many trips to Guitar Center, to play both the Fender Tele and the G & L I liked the way the Bluesboy felt, played, and sounded. Much more versatility and I found it to better playability. This is a good guitar through and through with quality enough to satisfy all the most discriminating player who can actually hear/feel the difference in more expensive axes. I would buy another at the drop of a hat. Love the looks, the feel, the tone, and the reputation.

Comments about G&L Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar:

Right out of the box I was impressed with the setup and feel. Once I plugged in things only got better. The ashtray bridge pickup has a little bit harsher spank than on my Fender custom offset tele, but with both pickups selected that extra brightness perfectly balances the humbucker warmth to produce a unique tone that sounds amazing thru a Vox AC15.
Only criticism and reason for withholding 5th star is that despite feeling and playing great, the appearance is less than advertised. The maple neck has a yellow tint that looks jaundiced next to the blond body, and the grain on the top of the guitar body is far less than expected -- strangely, there is twice as much grain showing on the back of the body, which seems like a waste. Also, though tight, the neck joint looks much less fitted than my tele or Mexican strat. So, to sum up, it isn't quite the head turner I expected but it sounds like twice the guitar I actally paid for. Try to see it in the store first, but do not hesitate about the playing qualities.
