Overview

The G&L Limited Edition Tribute Legacy HSS fattens things up with a G&L AW4368 alnico bridge humbucker to complement the vintage G&L Alnico V single-coils in the neck and middle positions. The Legacy HSS has that ideal balance that’ll let it play well in a variety of settings.

This limited-edition model features a transparent red finish over a mahogany body and 9.5" fingerboard radius.

The Legacy HSS brings all of the Legacy features, starting with Leo’s PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) system which functions on all three pickups for dramatically more variety than the vintage setup. What’s more, the Legacy HSS features a Leo Fender-designed Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, a work of engineering art that allows bending up or down with unsurpassed stability, while offering a silky feel through its beefy aluminum vibrato arm.

If you’re looking for that extra power to properly rock the house but you don’t want your classic Elvis to leave the building, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Legacy HSS. Once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back. Case sold separately.

More than I expected

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute Legacy HSS Painted Headcap Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for about 28 years and I've been eyeing G&Ls for a while. I came across this one on sale for $100 off. I was a little skeptical about it being a Tribute but I'm very happy with my purchase. I unboxed it, tuned it up and started playing. The setup right out of the box was excellent. Action was great, no buzzing, intonation was pretty close all the way up the neck. You can feel the quality in this guitar. It's put together very well. The pickups sound excellent. Very clear and detailed. I have an early Highway One Strat with Seymour Duncan SSL-1s that I love and I have to say that the G&L sounds better and with the PTB tone circuit it's very easy to get a killer tone on any of the pickups. I would say this guitar exceeds a Mexican Strat in every way. Beautiful finish on it as well. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute Legacy HSS Painted Headcap Electric Guitar:

I never bought a guitar without playing it first, so I started out pretty apprehensive about this whole process. However, when I opened the box, I was pretty pumped.

My enthusiasm was tempered by the sharp frets and the initial setup as I started to mess around with it. However, I've let a week pass before writing this review and those concerns aren't that big of a deal. The factor setup actually turned out to be okay as I played it more, the intonation was pretty accurate. I still plan on giving it a better setup, but it wasn't that bad. The frets are easy to fix, so no problems there. Now onto the positives:

This guitar is an immensely good value. It has the same Alnico V pickups that come on more expensive guitars and they sound great. Initially, I bought the guitar with the intention of swapping them out but I think I'm going to keep them. The telecaster I've been using has upgraded pickups ($150 a pop) which sound a little better, but that guitar is much more expensive and I *expect* it to be better than a guitar that cost less than half as much.

The body is a rich mahogany and quite beautiful. I saw no paint defects. I like the weight. It is solid, but not too heavy.

If you are like me and don't like glossy necks, you'll love this finish -- I'm not sure how to describe it, but its matte finish is very pleasant. If you are used to something ultra-glossy, it may take some getting used to, but it was just what I wanted.

The sound is just great. I don't have the luxury of being able to own 20 guitars, so this guitar's versatility is refreshing. The clean neck tones are clear and beautiful, but then you crank up the gain and switch over to the humbucker it rocks with the best of them.

I'm very pleased with my purchase. I highly recommend this guitar for all users except hard-core professionals who will probably spend thousands more anyway.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute Legacy HSS Painted Headcap Electric Guitar:

I bought this based on reviews of g&l products and people favoring these over MIM strats. When I got mine, I was very disappointed. I felt like a squire mini. I love unfinished necks but this felt like plastic. The tuners were cheap, frets sharp and fretboard had indentions in it. I plugged it up and thought the pickups were very weak. I would spend the extra money and get a Mexican strat

      Seriously love this guitar

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute Legacy HSS Painted Headcap Electric Guitar:

Such a great looking and sounding guitar. I really like how much you variety you can get with this thing thanks to the bonus humbuckler of this special edition and the bass tone hub. It stays in tune pretty well so long are you're not going totally nuts on the tremolo. I also really like the smooth finish on the back of the neck. My first guitar had a think lacquer neck and I hated it. Only thing negative I can say is that when the factory screwed in the back plate, they got too close to one of the edges and the screw burst out from the wood. You can't see it unless you take the back plate off of course, but whatever. I may go in and repair it eventually but I'm over it.
