I've been using these for a couple or years now and they are getting harder to get without waiting and waiting. These used to be Nickel Rockers back in the SRV days, Eric and SRV were using them, I had been using them for years and I never knew it's what they were using. Superior intonation and true of note, smoother feel and action, less fret wear due to the semi-flat winds. They stoped making them and Eric brought them back. They are the only semi-flat wound strings I know of. I dig them so much, perfect tension and gauge. I detune a whole step and I could go with 11s but a guage of 1 is no big deal. Despite detune these strings soar on the highs because really only the winds are semiflat I have no problems with dull or muddy tones in fact the definition and articulation is better on these. These strings sound better on my strats and my custom HB LP type guitar. Ranging from clean delays and jazz fusion to all out heavy shred and a little metal here and there, they respond and have great tone no matter the pedals or tone. I ran out and had to put on some left over D'Addario's, they were a little smaller on the wounds but close, as good as these strings are I could tell a difference not having the GHS Nickel Rockers. Most strings are the same especially the plain strings, nickel, steel, or plated, winds are not much different, there are a few brands with differing winds and feel by by and large most strings are made in bulk by just a few companies. These are different because of the special semi-flat compressed wind I know of no other string by anyone that has it. I dig them. I cannot understand why anyone would not liek them. I run some high end gear, some great boxes and amp head, these bring the tone no matter what I am creating.
I tried one set of these on my vintage '86 Squire Stratocaster that has had the pickups replaced with Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, a new selector switch, and custom pots and wiring. After years of using standard 10-46 sets from D'Addario and Ernie Ball, I decided that I wanted to go to a heavier gauge of strings for a better sound and had already tried a heavier set from D'Addario. I did not like the EJ Lights at first. I probably thought the gauging for the EJ Lights was too different from what I was used to or they just did not feel right at the time. I then tried a set of DR Pure Blues Mediums on my Statocaster and got used to their gauging. After getting myself a newer Epiphone Sheraton II, which has a shorter scale than my Strat, and spending an even amount of time between the two instruments, I decided to give the EJ Lights another try on my Stratocaster and I've been happy with them ever since. I don't know if it's the string tension or what that makes them sound slightly better to me on my Stratocaster than the DR Pure Blues Mediums.
