Overview

In 2004, The Performance Original set a new standard in capo design. Players loved the way that it kept the guitar in tune, but wanted it to be smaller and lighter, without compromising the tone. All that has been impossible until now: The new Performance 2 gives you the ultimate capo experience.

Not only has G7th made it slimmer and lighter, but they've also reversed its patented clutch mechanism, which gives it a lightning fast squeeze-on, squeeze-off action. It has also been designed to store behind the nut or on the peghead when not in use.

G7th Performance 2. Smaller - Faster - Lighter

Honestly I read tons of reviews about these before buying one with my latest guitar. I didn't believe any kind of hype, nor do I ever write reviews, but I had to in this case. My Khyser and Shubb constantly had to go on at weird angles to adjust for uneven tension, and they never fit any 2 guitars the same. Was a constant pain switching on and off and up and down. With the G7th, as long as you put it on straight it works. perfect tuning and tone up and down the neck. I've never been as wowed by such a simple change as I was switching to G7th ...and I am not looking back.

Can not stop fret buzz no matter how I position it or how hard I squeeze it onto the neck. I have 2 Martins and a Alvarez and none can use it. Paige capo is the one to get, mine is old but it works fine I just wanted a 2nd capo. I never should wasted my money on this thing, it just looked kinda cool in the pictures. Looks good and is well made but it doesn't work.

Not a good capo in my opinion

Comments about G7th Performance 2 Guitar Capo:

This capo has a nice and good feel to it and I heard a lot about the popularity and vibe about this capo though I didn't feel the vibe because of the buzzing that I kept hearing on my strings when applying the capo to my guitar. No matter how much pressure I applied, there was a bit buzzing on my guitar because of the capo, I bought this capo to replace my old kyser capo though it didn't seems to turn out the way I want it to be. Though the capo has a nice and stylish look to it I think it's pricey and not really worth it.

Comments about G7th Performance 2 Guitar Capo:

I was truly disappointed in this capo after the hype on the retail page.
I have a Goodall OM acoustic and it did a poor job of clamping down on the top strings. No matter how hard I tried to compress it it still failed to dampen over time completely the 1st string. It did work on my semi-hollow body electric arch top because the neck is narrower and it has flat wound strings...it also worked on a baritone use with nylon strings so I will keep it...but, buyer beware, it is not as good as it is "charged up $$$".+

As Good As It Gets ...

          By Carlton

Comments about G7th Performance 2 Guitar Capo:

I still have the the first capo that was given to me in 1962 when I was 10 years old. It was an old screw-on (no idea what brand as the stamping is now all tarnished, rusty, and worn) and, like me, a real dinosaur. I've since tried most of the better/recommended ones on the market. Obviously, some work better than others with a couple being outstanding, but, *hands down*, the 'G7th Performance' works for me best. I use mostly 10's and it just doesn't seem to matter which one of my guitars I clamp it onto - Strats (mostly), LPs, 000-28, etc, it just has this instinct to adapt. As you get used to it on your own guitars, the ability to make very minor adjustments to string pressure is unsurpassed. As long as your neck is set up properly to begin with, this thing goes up and down the neck with no problem. Doesn't seem to matter where on the fret it's placed or what angle it might scoot into. Extremely even spread from top to bottom. I still use the silver one I bought about 5 years ago and not only does it still work great, but is now broken in and seems to work even better. Very solid build and quick to slap on. Looks kinda cool, too. Only thing left to say is BUY ONE! Doesn't matter which color. You won't regret it.

I just bought this at Guitar Center and I can't wait to return it! It's well made, I won't argue that. I saw videos on it and its nice that you only need one hand. Now, I have certifiable grip strength and believe me when I tell you, you can't close this tight enough. There is so much fret buzz its not even funny. My metal shub capo is much better at half the price. Don't waste your money on this.

Comments about G7th Performance 2 Guitar Capo:

I had read a number of reviews on this capo. I was a concerned because some of the reviews said it didn't hold all the strings down and there was string "buzzing". I wrote the company and asked about this problem. First, they were very quick in their response (that's good). Second, they had noticed the problem and made some changes to the compression pad design. Third, they said they would back up their product 100%. If I had a problem I could contact them and they would help me in any way they could, even by replacing it.

Now, I have had my capo for 2 months. I did have some string "buzzing" in the beginning, but have had less over time. I think the rubber compression pads needed to be broke-in. I now find that there are fewer and fewer times that I encounter this problem. I will sometimes use both hands to secure it in place or move it within a fret to correct a string buzz.

I am not a professional, I play for myself and once in awhile for family & friends. I would not recommend it at this time for a professional or someone that plays for groups of people. There are times when I need to adjust the capo several times if I have a string buzzing. I would feel very un-professional doing this in front of a group of people.

Bottom line is, I like it. It may give me a little problem once in awhile, but for me that's ok. It's smaller then I thought it would be. I would recommend it to a friend, but I would also let a them use mine to see if they like it before they buy their own.

Comments about G7th Performance 2 Guitar Capo:

I use this capo on a Breedlove Pursuit Concert, so the neck is not really strange or unusual in any way and is somewhat smaller (According to other people) than many acoustics. That said, this capo works great once you get used to the motion to set it, release it or move it one-handed. it does require a firm clamp with your hand to "Set" it, but once set it is great. With 10's, 11's or 12's there is zero fret buzz no matter where you set it in relation to the frets, with 13's (I use Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze) it does want to be somewhere between "Right up against the fret" and halfway back from the fret.

Bearing those caveats in mind, it is a stellar piece of craftsmanship and my favorite thing about it from a functional standpoint is that I can get right up against it to fret chords like Amaj without it affecting my hand placement. Capo's that clip or clamp "Under" the neck just don't work for me and the Kysers that I tried pulled the tuning really badly. This capo does neither. The other thing I like is it's unobtrusiveness, it is very subtle in black and just does it 's job.

                      Dig it.

but you get what you pay for. Very nicely made and the gold color was a plus.

The only way I could get this to work without buzzing was to set it on top of the fret and shift it around

It doesn't conform to the radius of the fretboard or the profile of the neck very well.

The quality of this capo is first class. The problem was the radius of the clamping arm. My Strat and Tele both required too much pressure to evenly clamp all the strings. This caused tuning issues, which is what I was trying to solve with the G7th. It did work better with the flatter fingerboard radius on my Martin acoustic. I ended up returning this capo

Comments about G7th Performance 2 Guitar Capo:

G 7th makes quality products. I purchased the gold-plated Performance 2 as a gift and it's simply beautiful and well-made like the original. It works well on all of our electric guitar necks and most of the acoustics. Just couldn't get a clean, consistent sound on the D28.
